There is a need to address the significant gap in our ability to measure and monitor the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across service networks. The unprecedented growth in service-based business processes over a short period of time has underscored the need for understanding the mechanisms and theorising the business models and business process management adopted across many organisations today. This research presents a survey of the literature and argues that the inability of current Business Process Management (BPM) techniques to visualise and monitor web-enabled business processes prevents us from transforming information on network activity and infrastructures. This inhibits managers in anticipating change and adapting to more agile business practices in service science. Thus, this research-in-progress sets out to propose the need to develop a framework to enhance a manager's ability to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) while improving business process restructuring practices through social network analysis (SNA).

This paper presents the utilization of super resolution algorithms for the indoor positioning applications in order to estimate Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and distances using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transceiver. Optimal reduction in Distance Measurement Error (DME) is achieved. We have utilized OFDM/Single Carrier-Decision Feedback Equalizer (OFDM/SC-DFE) signal structure presented in our previous works. The super resolution algorithms Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT), Root Multiple Signal Classification (Root-MUSIC) and Matrix Pencil (MP) are compared for DME estimation. We have applied Minimum Descriptive Length (MDL) criterion to these algorithms, that provides optimized estimate of the length of actual Channel Impulse Response (CIR) by eliminating the noise component from the dispersive CIR. Our scheme is based on two different antennas used to transmit the pre-half-zero-carriers and post-half-zero-carriers OFDM symbols respectively, mapped to multiple carriers using Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system and received by the object to be positioned. © 2010 ACM.

In this paper, a new cost and space efficient solution to unbalanced assignment problems is presented. The new solution uses linear space complexity instead of polynomial complexity as used by the Hungarian method. Moreover, its optimal cost is lower than of the Kumar method - an existing linear space complexity solution to unbalanced assignment problems.

The design and deployment of efficient vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications systems require the knowledge of the propagation channel in which it will operate. Due to the mobility of the transmitter/receiver terminals as well as the existence of dynamic scatterers, the V2V channel is nonstationary. To account for the nonstationarity, channel characterization methods that employs the non wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (non-WSSUS) approach are often desired. More also the inadequacy of the Doppler shift operator to properly account for frequency variation effects by the wideband channel operator implies that the time-frequency characterization methods that employ the Doppler shift operator are not appropriate for wideband V2V channels. In this paper we present the time-scale domain characterization of the non-WSSUS channel which employs time scaling operator to account for frequency variation and also emphasizes on the non-stationary property of the channel. The non-WSSUS statistical property termed local sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (LSSUS) is employed. The effect of the channel nonstationarity on the channel capacity is also addressed. From the simulated example, it is inferred that the assumption of ergodic capacity depend on the number of available independent fades which invariably depend on the degree of the V2V channel nonstationarity.

The AAAI-10 workshop program was held on July 11-12, 2010, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop program included 13 workshops covering a wide range of topics in artificial intelligence. There were several presentations on particular formalisms for combining the levels of planning from the perspectives of classical planning, motion planning, POMDPs, search-based planning, and temporal logic-based constraints. Henry Lieberman from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory presented work developing a platform for knowledge acquisition and usage from expert users, built upon experience with eliciting information from nonexperts in a collaborative manner. The objective of the AAAI Workshop on Goal-Directed Autonomy (GDA) was to encourage discussion and novel contributions on intelligent agents that can self-select their goals. Jeremy Baxter from QinetiQ focused on user interaction, while Nick Hawes described a goal-directed reasoning framework for controlling a mobile robot.

Testing-as-a-service (TaaS) is a new model to provide testing capabilities to end users. Users save the cost of complicated maintenance and upgrade effort, and service providers can upgrade their services without impact on the end-users. Due to uneven volumes of concurrent requests, it is important to address the elasticity of TaaS platform in a cloud environment. Scheduling and dispatching algorithms are developed to improve the utilization of computing resources. We develop a prototype of TaaS over cloud, and evaluate the scalability of the platform by increasing the test task load;analyze the distribution of computing time on test task scheduling and test task processing over the cloud;and examine the performance of proposed algorithms by comparing others.

An associative memory (AM) system is proposed to realize incremental learning and temporal sequence learning. The proposed system is constructed with three layer networks: The input layer inputs key vectors, response vectors, and the associative relation between vectors. The memory layer stores input vectors incrementally to corresponding classes. The associative layer builds associative relations between classes. The proposed method can incrementally learn key vectors and response vectors;store and recall both static information and temporal sequence information;and recall information from incomplete or noise-polluted inputs. Experiments using binary data, real-value data, and temporal sequences show that the proposed method works well. © 2010 IEEE.

This study presented a new Arabic text compression technique in which an input file is preprocessed to produce a new binary file. The preprocessing maps a codeword to each character based on its occurrences in the input file. The binary file is then compressed using a bit-wise Lempel-Ziv algorithm. The new technique has been implemented and examined using different files. The results showed that the new technique, using extension-order of 8 or 4, achieves a compression ratio with the range of 4.25 to 4.7 bits/character, respectively. The improvement in compression efficiency is due to the significant reduction in the number of symbols in the generated binary file. It is noteworthy that embedded security on the compressed file is naturally acquired due to the automatic generation of the private key via mapping. © 2010 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

Unified Modelling Language (UML) is as a standard object-oriented modelling notation that is widely accepted and used in software development industry. In general, the UML notation is informally defined in term of natural language description (English) and Object Constraint Language (OCL) which makes difficult to formally analyzed and error-prone. In this paper, we elucidate the preliminary result on an approach to formally define UML class diagram using logic-based representation formalism. We represent how to define the UML class diagram using Description Logics (DLs).
