This paper is devoted to the problem of state estimation for a class of dynamic system with multiple nonlinear-linear (NL) mixing state constraints. A computational algorithm was developed by C. Yang and E. Blasch to incorporate a positive definite quadratic form equality constraint into the Kalman filtering for the ground vehicle tracking. However, when the target tracked in multidimensional space, a single positive definite quadratic form constraint is not enough due to the involvement of other surface such as hyperboloid, paraboloid, or even plane. A analytic method of incorporating multiple nonlinear-linear mixing state constraints into the Kalman filter is presented here, and a sufficient condition is obtained that guarantee the existence of solution. The constraints may be time varying. At each time step the unconstrained Kalman filter solution is projected onto the state constraints surface. This significantly improves the prediction accuracy of the filter. The use of this algorithm is demonstrated on a nonlinear-linear mixing spacecraft positioning problem.

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are flexible tools which are being used increasingly to predict and forecast water resources variables. The human activities in areas surrounding enclosed and semi-enclosed seas such as the Mediterranean Sea always produce in the long term a strong environmental impact in the form of coastal and marine degradation. The presence of dissolved oxygen is essential for the survival of most organisms in the water bodies. This paper is concerned with the use of ANNs - Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Radial Basis Function neural networks for predicting the next fortnight's dissolved oxygen concentrations in the Mediterranean Sea water along Gaza. MLP and Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks are trained and developed with reference to five important oceanographic variables including water temperature, wind velocity, turbidity, pH and conductivity. These variables are considered as inputs of the network. The data sets used in this study consist of four years and collected from nine locations along Gaza coast. The network performance has been tested with different data sets and the results show satisfactory performance. Prediction results prove that neural network approach has good adaptability and extensive applicability for modelling the dissolved oxygen in the Mediterranean Sea along Gaza. We hope that the established model will help in assisting the local authorities in developing plans and policies to reduce the pollution along Gaza coastal waters to acceptable levels.

We construct new families of multi-error-correcting quantum codes for the amplitude damping channel. Our key observation is that, with proper encoding, two uses of the amplitude damping channel simulate a quantum erasure channel. This allows us to use concatenated codes with quantum erasure-correcting codes as outer codes for correcting multiple amplitude damping errors. Our new codes are degenerate stabilizer codes and have parameters which are better than the amplitude damping codes obtained by any previously known construction.

This paper proposes a model based approach for prognosis of DC-DC power converters. We briefly review the prognosis process, and present an overview of different approaches that have been developed. We study the effects of capacitor degradation on DC-DC converter performance by developing a combination of a thermal model for ripple current effects and a physics of failure model of the thermal effects on capacitor degradation. The derived degradation model of the capacitor is reintroduced into the DC-DC converter model to study changes in the system performance using Monte Carlo methods. The simulation results observed under different conditions and experimental setups for model verification are discussed. The paper concludes with comments and future work to be done.
