Microarray device offers the ability to measure the expression levels of thousands of genes simultaneously. It is used to collect information from tissue and cell samples regarding gene expression differences that could be useful for cancer classification. However, the urgent issues in the use of gene expression data are the availability of huge number of genes relative to the small number of available samples, and many of the genes are not relevant to the classification. It has been shown that selecting a small subset of genes can lead to an improved accuracy of the classification. Hence, this paper proposes a solution to the problem of gene selection by using a multi-objective strategy in genetic algorithm. This approach is experimented on two benchmark gene expression data sets and it presented the experimental results. It obtains encouraging result on those data sets as compared with an approach that uses single-objective strategy in genetic algorithm. ©ISAROB 2008.

The development of microarray-based high-throughput gene expression has led to the hope that this technology could provide an efficient cancer diagnosis and classification platform. A major problem in these gene expression data is that the number of genes greatly exceeds the number of tissue samples. Moreover, these data have a noisy nature. It has been shown that selecting a small subset of informative genes can lead to improved classification accuracy. Thus, this paper aims to select a small subset of informative genes that are most relevant for the classification task. To achieve this aim, a hybrid algorithm that combines two hybrid methods has been developed. This algorithm is assessed on two well-known microarray data sets, showing competitive results. ©ISAROB 2008.

In this paper, a novel variable rate based time frame scheduling scheme is proposed to further reduce collisions and improve energy saving in wireless sensor networks. The MAC combines CSMA and TDMA functionalities, while obviating their shortcomings. After being assigned, slot 0 is preserved as the pre-schedule slot to inform neighbor nodes the schedule of the senders. During this pre-schedule slot, each node knows exactly the schedule of other neighbor nodes. Multi-rate and power scaling are adopted to achieve further energy saving by employing an acceptable rate rather than the maximum rate. Data rate is dynamically adjusted according to the traffic load of sending nodes in an energy efficient data rate to save energy. Compared with Z-MAC, performance in the present study proves to have better ability of local framing pre-schedule and multi-rate achieves better energy efficiency. © 2008 IEEE.

Ambiguity is a major problem of software errors because much of the requirements specification is written in a natural language format. Therefore, it is hard to identify consistencies because this format is too ambiguous for specification purposes. This paper aims to propose a method for handling requirement specification documents which have a similar content to each other through a hierarchical text classification. The method consists of two main processes of classification: heavy classification and light classification. The heavy classification is to classify the requirement specification documents having similar content together. Meanwhile, light classification is to elaborate specification requirement documents by using the Euclidean Distance. Finally, slimming down the number of requirements specification through hierarchical text classification classifying may yield a specification which is easier to understand. That means the proposed method is more effective for reducing and handling in the requirements specification. © 2008 IEEE.

In recent years a huge number of online auctions that use Multi Agent systems have been created. As a result there are numerous auctions that provide the same product. In this case each customer can buy a product with the lowest possible price. But searching between auctions in terms of finding the suitable product can be time consuming for consumers and also providing products in different markets is a difficult task for suppliers. So the need for an autonomous agent in these types of markets is deeply felt. On the other side the structure of an auction mechanism that provides the environment for traders to operate their trades is vital. Despite all the research that has been done about online auctions, most of them were about single markets. But in real world the stocks and commodities of companies are listed and traded in different markets. There is a growing tendency towards research about online auctions and Market Design. Particularly in recent years CAT (CATallactics) game has provided an important opportunity to develop and test new techniques in this field. In this paper after introducing CAT game and PersianCAT agent, we want to challenge the conventional accepting policy used in stock markets like New York Stock Exchange and provide a better solution that improves the general performance of the markets.

Single Carrier Transmission (SCT) is a competing technique for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in Broadband Wireless systems (BWS). Recent developments in Frequency Domain Equalization (FDE) using Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE) have greatly improved the system based on the SC technique, this caused SC-DFE to be selected as a candidate technique for the forthcoming BWS. This paper concentrates the growth of DFE design from scratch till its present form used in SCT and thus restricts our survey to the development of DFE for SCT. A new SCT-DFE modified model is also presented and compared with OFDM, both simulated for WLAN system. This presented equalizer structure performs better than OFDM and improves its performance when the number of iterations is increased. SC-LE and SC-DFE both supersede the performance of OFDM. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.

In complex and dynamic environments where interdependencies cannot monotonously determine causality, data mining techniques may be employed in order to analyze the problem, extract key features and identify pivotal factors. Typical cases of such complexity and dynamicity are supply chain networks, where a number of involved stakeholders struggle towards their own benefit. These stakeholders may be agents with varying degrees of autonomy and intelligence, in a constant effort to establish beneficiary contracts and maximize own revenue. In this paper, we illustrate the benefits of data mining analysis on a well-established agent supply chain management network. We apply data mining techniques, both at a macro and micro level, analyze the results and discuss them in the context of agent performance improvement. © 2008 IEEE.

The delay of a circuit implemented in a Lookup table (LUT) based Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) is a combination of routing delays, and logic block delays. However most of an FPGA's area is devoted to programmable routing. When these blocks are replaced with logic clusters, the fraction of delay due to the cluster has significant impact on total delay. This paper investigates the impact of logic cluster size when the most favorable LUT size is achieved. As a result, fast and area efficient FPGA architecture can be proposed that can combine the logic blocks into logic clusters. In lookup table FPGA architecture, area and delay are the main factors to be tackled, the best value for each of the parameters depends on complex trade-offs. If an FPGA with smaller LUTs is constructed to minimize the area, the result is poor speed. On the other hand, if an FPGA includes larger LUTs, speed might increase but area is unnecessarily wasted. In this experimental work 20 benchmark circuits were tested to calculate the delay and area metric. Results show increasing logic cluster size has no more effect on delay as well as area, when suitable optimal values of lookup table size (LUT) are established. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.

The focus of this paper is a construction of better knowledge base in case-based classifier system. Our knowledge base structure is based on concept lattice where rules are built from its subconcept-superconcept relation. Since the lattice can only be constructed from inputs with binary attributes, descriptive and numeric attributes must be transformed to binary attributes. In this paper, we propose the transformation of numeric attributes to descriptive attributes using fuzzy set theory. We experiment on benchmark data sets, Car and Iris, to determine the performance in term of number of rules used and classification precision. The results show that trend of accuracy is proportional to the size of learning inputs. The number of rules used is relatively small compared with size of training data. Our case-based classifier produces very promising results in practice and can classify the new problem more accurate than traditional classifiers. Copyright 2008 ACM.

The duality between document and word clustering naturally leads to the consideration of storing the document dataset in a bipartite. With documents and words modeled as vertices on two sides respectively, partitioning such a graph yields a co-clustering of words and documents. The topic of each cluster can then be represented by the top words and documents that have highest within-cluster degrees. However, such claims may fail if top words and documents are selected simply because they are very general and frequent. In addition, for those words and documents across several topics, it may not be proper to assign them to a single cluster. In other words, to precisely capture the cluster topic, we need to identify those micro-sets of words/documents that are similar among themselves and as a whole, representative of their respective topics. Along this line, in this paper, we use hyperclique patterns, strongly affiliated words/documents, to define such micro-sets. We introduce a new bipartite formulation that incorporates both word hypercliques and document hypercliques as super vertices. By co-preserving hyperclique patterns during the clustering process, our experiments on real-world data sets show that better clustering results can be obtained in terms of various external clustering validation measures and the cluster topic can be more precisely identified. Also, the partitioned bipartite with co-preserved patterns naturally lends itself to different clustering-related functions in search engines. To that end, we illustrate such an application, returning clustered search results for keyword queries. We show that the topic of each cluster with respect to the current query can be identified more accurately with the words and documents from the patterns than with those top ones from the standard bipartite formulation. © 2008 World Scientific Publishing Company.
