Multi-agent systems often consist of heterogeneous agents with different capabilities and objectives. While some agents might try to maximize their system's utility, others might be self-interested and thus only act for their own good. However, because of their limited capabilities and resources, it is often necessary that agents cooperate to be able to satisfy given tasks. To work together on such a task, the agents have to solve a task allocation problem, e.g., by teaming up in groups like coalitions or distributing the task among themselves on electronic markets. In this paper, we introduce two algorithms that allow agents to cooperatively solve a dynamic task allocation problem in uncertain environments. Based on these algorithms, we investigate the influence of inter-agent variation on the system's behavior. One of these algorithms explicitly exploits inter-agent variation to solve the task without communication between the agents, while the other builds upon a fixed overlay network in which agents exchange information. Throughout the paper, the frequency stabilization problem from the domain of decentralized power management serves as a running example to illustrate our algorithms and results.

This short paper presents a preliminary analysis of the impact of model parameter uncertainty on the accuracy of solution algorithms for the scheduling problems with the learning effect. We consider the maximum completion time minimization flowshop problem with job processing times described by the power functions dependent on the number of processed jobs. To solve the considered scheduling problem we propose heuristic (NEH based) and metaheuristic (simulated annealing) algorithms. The numerical experiments show that NEH and simulated annealing are robust for this problem with respect to model parameter uncertainty.

The descriptions of various entities on Linked Data repositories are subject to constant renewals and modifications, with respect to both the descriptions of concepts and relations and entities realizing their instantiations. Thus, the underlying ontologies have to be updated accordingly in order to reflect these changes. This paper presents a system for examining the possibilities of discovering new relations and updating/verifying existing ones for entities described in Linked Data repositories by using Open Information Extraction techniques. These are applied to web content. The process aims to the enrichment of the examined datasets and the expansion of the ontologies with newly-discovered concepts and relations. Towards this target, the paper discusses the intricacies, pitfalls and challenges present.

Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) is one of the most recent trends in IT solutions. From a technical perspective SOA, can be considered a method for designing and developing IT systems where applications are constructed from loosely coupled and au-tonomous building blocks. For a thorough analysis and discussion of SOA at large, and of the applications it enables, IFIP (International Federation of Information Processing) has recently established a new working group on Services-oriented systems (WG 2.14/6.12/8.10). The paper presents some first results of the analysis aimed to identify the relevant trends and shape emerging research themes.
