This paper proposes key SaaS (software-as-a-Service) design strategies for those SaaS systems that run on top of a commercial PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) system such as GAE (Google App Engine)[1]. Specifically, this paper proposes a model-based approach for customization, multi-tenancy architecture, scalability, and redundancy & recovery techniques for GAE. The ACDATER (Actors, Conditions, Data, Actions, Timing, Events, and Relationship) model is used for various features, and then automated code generation is used to generate code based on the model specified. Simulation can be performed to ensure correctness before deployment.

Environmental sustainability issues and the costs of new power generation and transmission have increased the interest in evolving current power grid to new technologies. The Smart Grid is a promising technology, since it allows a distributed computing approach with potentials for self-diagnosing/-healing, reliable multi-user communication and fast hard real-time control. However, the missing standardization associated with heterogeneity of legacy systems and wide-area service demands, makes very challenging to adopt Smart Grid in a cost-effective way. By considering this, we propose the Session-Oriented Communication System (SOCSys) to overcome the above issues by enhancing Smart Grid with truly reliable and robust capabilities over heterogeneous environments. SOCSys achieves this goal by orchestrating session-control with innovative network-centric facilities operating over a wireless mesh Information Network compliant with IEEE 802.11e/s standard. The simulation results show that SOCSys improved network performance in terms of bandwidth utilization and minimization of delay, while consuming low network resources. Graphical analyses showed that SOCSys supported multimedia sessions with excellent quality, where it outperforms the experiments with regular settings.

Beside commercial games there are so-called educational games. When the main purpose of the game is to educate - then it is called educational game. In that kind of games the main focus of modelling is on design of learning elements around given educational course or around existing real-world educational curriculum. Educational games employed large variety of genres and it is difficult to be classified purely in one style, and often game is combination of different styles. For successful adaptive learning with game elements is necessary to research and specify different gaming styles, mapped to learning styles. This paper proposes a model of so called learmer (learner mapped with gamer style) and model of the educational game structures using and identifying the objects which are relevant for the domain of study and describing connecting relationships among these objects. © 2011 ACM.

This paper is devoted to the modeling problem of hypersonic vehicle with significant couplings. An integrated approach is developed to analytically model the dynamics of hypersonic vehicle, in which the effects of variable mass, spherical rotating earth, and couplings among the sub-models are considered. Furthermore, a preliminary analysis is conducted using the general data of a hypersonic vehicle. The simulation results show that the maximum of the Coriolis force can reach values up to 7.02% of the vehicle weight, and that the thermal load determined by the nonuniform aerodynamic heating and the properties of the structure has a significant influence on the elastic deformation.

Nowadays, software architectures are built by reusing proven architectural building blocks. The several building blocks are composed together to form the desired software architecture. Each block has its specific architectural properties which were maybe also responsible for its choice. But these properties could be violated during composition with impact on the architecture's quality. Therefore, this paper proposes an approach to assure architectural properties of architectural building blocks during the compositional design of software architectures. This approach describes properties of architectural building blocks as assurances. Assurances as well as the descriptions of architectural building blocks themselves are formalised in the same way. Furthermore, the assurances of the chosen architectural building blocks are examined in composed architectures. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

In practice, more and more software development projects are distributed, ranging from partly distributed teams to global projects with each stakeholder located differently. Teaching actual practice in software engineering at university needs a proper mixture of theory and practice. But setting up practical exercises for global software engineering is hard, because students have to cooperate across different locations and situations reflecting the teaching intentions have to be provoked explicitly. This paper presents the concepts behind our common teaching environment for global software engineering - the GloSELab. It describes the experiences on setting up a distributed course and reports our teaching intentions based on each universities main focus: project management, requirements engineering & quality assurance, architecture, and implementation. Furthermore, we discuss our setup - a stage-gate process, where each location takes care of a different phase - and report occurred problems and how they supported or interfered with our teaching intentions. © 2011 IEEE.

Clinical practice guidelines are important instruments to support clinical care. In this work we analysed how activities are formulated in these documents and we tried to represent the activities using patterns based on semantic relations. For this we used the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) and in particular its Semantic Network. Out of it we generated a collection of semantic patterns that can be used to automatically identify activities. In a study we showed that these semantic patterns can cover a large part of the control flow. Using such patterns cannot only support the modelling of computer-interpretable clinical practice guidelines, but can also improve the general comprehension which treatment procedures have to be accomplished. This can also lead to improved compliance of clinical practice guidelines. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Service-oriented architecture and cloud computing have become the prevalent computing paradigm. In this paradigm, computing resources can be accessed like other utility services available in today's society. In the meantime, robotics applications are joining the trend. More and more robot applications are shifting from manufacture to non-manufacture and service industries. However, for the on-demand supply of the large-scale heterogeneous robots, It is still a problem have not yet been studied, including the fundamental management and efficiency issues in using of these resources. In this paper, we design a framework of "Robot Cloud Center" (RCC) following the general cloud computing paradigm to address the current limitations in capacity and versatility of robotic applications. In this framework, a robot can be provided as a service just like a public utility service so that everyone can access the powerful robotic services easily, efficiently, and cheaply. Based on a given scenario, a robot scheduling algorithm in RCC is proposed to take advantage of the heterogeneous robot resources to meet the end user's requirement with the minimum cost.
