Environmental sustainability issues and the costs of new power generation and transmission have increased the interest in evolving current power grid to new technologies. The Smart Grid is a promising technology, since it allows a distributed computing approach with potentials for self-diagnosing/-healing, reliable multi-user communication and fast hard real-time control. However, the missing standardization associated with heterogeneity of legacy systems and wide-area service demands, makes very challenging to adopt Smart Grid in a cost-effective way. By considering this, we propose the Session-Oriented Communication System (SOCSys) to overcome the above issues by enhancing Smart Grid with truly reliable and robust capabilities over heterogeneous environments. SOCSys achieves this goal by orchestrating session-control with innovative network-centric facilities operating over a wireless mesh Information Network compliant with IEEE 802.11e/s standard. The simulation results show that SOCSys improved network performance in terms of bandwidth utilization and minimization of delay, while consuming low network resources. Graphical analyses showed that SOCSys supported multimedia sessions with excellent quality, where it outperforms the experiments with regular settings.

Service-oriented architecture and cloud computing have become the prevalent computing paradigm. In this paradigm, computing resources can be accessed like other utility services available in today's society. In the meantime, robotics applications are joining the trend. More and more robot applications are shifting from manufacture to non-manufacture and service industries. However, for the on-demand supply of the large-scale heterogeneous robots, It is still a problem have not yet been studied, including the fundamental management and efficiency issues in using of these resources. In this paper, we design a framework of "Robot Cloud Center" (RCC) following the general cloud computing paradigm to address the current limitations in capacity and versatility of robotic applications. In this framework, a robot can be provided as a service just like a public utility service so that everyone can access the powerful robotic services easily, efficiently, and cheaply. Based on a given scenario, a robot scheduling algorithm in RCC is proposed to take advantage of the heterogeneous robot resources to meet the end user's requirement with the minimum cost.

Identity Based Encryption (IBE) constitutes an alternative cryptographic method to the conventional public key systems. The main feature of IBE is that public keys are not transmitted over the network, but they are efficiently computed from the receivers' unique identity information;thus, the system is certificateless. This paper presents a complete implementation of a practical IBE infrastructure for secure e-mail communication. As far as we know, this is the first open-source attempt to simultaneously provide a fully functional and user-friendly IBE system together with a trustworthy Private Key Generator. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract In this paper, the relative position parameters of the target spacecraft are obtained by using the vision measurement and the target maneuver positions are calculated through the isochronous interpolation method. Furthermore, new switch control laws under constant thrust are designed for active collision avoidance maneuver of the chaser along a specified trajectory. The switch control laws are obtained based on the acceleration sequences and the working times of thrusters in three axes which can be respectively computed by the time series analysis method. The perturbations and fuel consumptions are addressed during the computation of the working times. The simulation results show that the constant thrust maneuver can effectively guarantee the chaser maneuvering along the specified trajectory.

Abstract In this paper, a risk-sensitive filter for a class of jump Markov nonlinear systems is proposed. By using a set of weighted cubature points to approximate the intractable risk-sensitive recursions, the proposed filter could exhibit improved numerical stability with respect to the derivation of the square-root covariance, for which the unscented transform technique might halt the operations due to the presence of non-positive definite covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is illustrated through a simulation study of tracking a land vehicle with maneuvers.

This paper presents a Gaussian mixture probability hypothesis density (GM-PHD) smoother for tracking multiple maneuvering targets that follow jump Markov models. Unlike the generalization of the multiple model GM-PHD filters, our aim is to approximate the dynamics of the linear Gaussian jump Markov system (LGJMS) by a best-fitting Gaussian (BFG) distribution so that the GM-PHD smoother can be carried out with respect to an approximated linear Gaussian system. Our approach is inspired by the recognition that the BFG approximation provides an accurate performance measure for the LGJMS. Furthermore, the multiple model estimation is avoided and less computational cost is required. The effectiveness of the proposed smoother is verified with a numerical simulation.

In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning control (ILC) scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking of uncertain delay systems based on model matching technique. The reference model is a delay system operating over in a finite time interval. An iterative model matching controller is designed and an iteration domain adaptive law is chosen to estimate the unknown parameters. It shows that the model matching technique can be applied in a straightforward method to ILC problem. A simulation example is included to illustrate the designed scheme.

The prediction of gene function from genome sequences is one of the main issues in Bioinformatics. Most computational approaches are based on the similarity between sequences to infer gene function. However, the availability of several fully sequenced genomes has enabled alternative approaches, such as phylogenetic profiles. Phylogenetic profiles are vectors which indicate the presence or absence of a gene in other genomes. The main concept of phylogenetic profiles is that proteins participating in a common structural complex or metabolic pathway are likely to evolve in a correlated fashion. In this paper, a multi level clustering algorithm of phylogenetic profiles is presented, which aims to detect inter- and intragenome gene clusters. © 2010 IEEE.

Querying models is one of the most essential and most elementary tasks in model-based software development. More complex activities like, for instance finding source patterns of model transformations, measuring models, or checking consistency between models, include querying models for certain properties, elements, or substructures. Logic formalisms like full first-predicate logic or description logics provide the well-understood foundation for implementing efficient model querying mechanisms. Regarding the specific purpose of querying models, a more efficient but less expressive logic formalism might be more useful than in other use cases. In this paper, we will introduce a framework which enables us to easily realise metamodel independent query tools based on different subsets of first-order logic. We show the application of the framework by checking a UML design model for architectural properties.
