A combination of closed sequential pattern mining and closed itemset pattern mining was proposed to mine closed multidimensional sequential patterns. There are two ways for this combination; (1) mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information followed by mining closed sequential patterns from sequences associated with closed itemset patterns, and (2) mining closed sequential patterns from sequences followed by mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. In the first way the major cost is mining all sequences associated with closed itemset patterns. A similar problem occurs with the second way, the major cost is mining all multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes two new combinations that don't need to mine all sequences in the first combination, and all multidimensional information in the second combination. Both combinations can be effected by exploiting two concepts. In the first combination, any closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset patten I can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern I' if I sup I'. In the second combination, any closed itemset patterns associated with a closed sequential pattern s can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern s' if s sup s'.

Semantic annotation and querying is currently applied on a number of versatile disciplines, providing the added-value of such an approach and, consequently the need for more elaborate - either case-specific or generic - tools. In this context, we have developed Eikonomia: an integrated semantically-aware tool for the description and retrieval of Byzantine artwork Information. Following the needs of the ORMYLIA Art Diagnosis Center for adding semantics to their legacy data, an ontology describing Byzantine artwork based on CIDOC-CRM, along with the interfaces for synchronization to and from the existing RDBMS have been implemented. This ontology has been linked to a reasoning tool, while a dynamic interface for the automated creation of semantic queries in SPARQL was developed. Finally, all the appropriate interfaces were instantiated, in order to allow easy ontology manipulation, query results projection and restrictions creation.

We propose a portable viewer with a user interface in which the contents of the screen, displayed as output, change based on the movements of the viewer itself, as which is used input. The user interface requires no special input devices such as a keyboard or mouse. First, we begin by analyzing the portable viewer's movements and discussing the detection sensor. Next, we detail the output display control parameters based on movement parameters detected as input information. Finally, we give the results of an experiment with an embedded microcomputer for consumer use and a small sensor that demonstrates the feasibility of our proposal.

Bloom's taxonomy of the cognitive domain and the SOLO taxonomy are being increasingly widely used in the design and assessment of courses, but there are some drawbacks to their use in computer science. This paper reviews the literature on educational taxonomies and their use in computer science education, identifies some of the problems that arise, proposes a new taxonomy and discusses how this can be used in application-oriented courses such as programming.

Based on changing market conditions and pressure on cost and productivity, companies in different industries have started do concentrate on their core competencies and to decrease vertical range of manufacture which leads to an increasing outsourcing of business processes. With this outsourcing the dependency of companies on their business partners rises significantly forming so called value networks. Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) offers methods and tools to manage direct suppliers. In order to perform well in these value networks SRM needs to be extended towards Supply Network Management (SNM) by methods and tools to identify, evaluate, rate and select strategic suppliers located not only in tier one, but also in the subsequent tiers. The selection of adequate supply networks, satisfying different evaluation criteria, is therefore of main importance and builds the topic of this paper. The paper is based on preparatory work done in the area of strategic supply network development (SSND), where the identification of strategic supply networks has been elaborated, and focuses on the evaluation and ranking of strategic supply networks providing the base for supply network selection. In recent years, Internet has become the platform that supports most areas in organizations. This fact has led to the appearance of specific tools for the construction of Web Information systems (WIS). However, in these tools an absence of functionalities for verification and validation (V&V) of the models built has been detected. This work aims to redress this absence with the definition of a strategy for the specification of the models used in the WIS development that can be used with V&V objectives. The approach has been validated in a specific methodology (MIDAS) and an associated tool (MIDAS-CASE), both aligned with the MDA proposal. One of the diagrams used in this methodology has been formalized: the extended navigation model, achieving a precise specification of this diagram. This specification permits the definition and formal verification of properties related to this diagram, as well as its validation. The specification and verification of a concrete property are also shown.

Supply chain management (SCM) environments are often dynamic markets providing a plethora of information, either complete or incomplete. It is, therefore, evident that such environments demand intelligent solutions, which can perceive variations and act in order to achieve maximum revenue. To do so, they must also provide some sophisticated mechanism for exploiting the full potential of the environments they inhabit. Advancing on the way autonomous solutions usually deal with the SCM process, we have built a robust and highly-adaptable mechanism for efficiently dealing with all SCM facets, while at the same time incorporating a module that exploits data mining technology in order to forecast the price of the winning bid in a given order and, thus, adjust its bidding strategy. The paper presents our agent, Mertacor, and focuses on the forecasting mechanism it incorporates, aiming to optimal agent efficiency

Hardware/software (HW-SW) partitioning is a key problem in codesign of embedded systems, studied extensively in the past. This paper describes a new approach to hardware/software partitioning for synchronous model. We formalize the partitioning problem using timed automata, which captures the key elements of the partitioning. Then the tabu algorithm is applied to timed automata model to search for the solution efficiently. An industrial experiment is conducted to show our approach can handle large applications with hundreds of nodes in task graph effectively

The UML notation is a well-know standard notation to describe OO systems. But the UML specification has certain imprecisions and ambiguities that, along with possible errors made by the modellers, may cause inconsistency problems in the models of the system. This paper presents a rigorous approach to improve the consistency analysis between UML diagrams. This proposal is based on a previous formalization of the UML meta-model diagrams, [1-4], in Maude. The framework given by the specifications created helps to guarantee the consistency of models because all the specifications are integrated within the same formalism. This work focuses on the analysis of the inter-diagram consistency. Several examples of properties are shown that help to guarantee the consistency between UML Communication and Class Diagrams. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
