Problems and failures that emerge in Cyber-Physical systems (CPSs), particularly in robotic applications, may originate from various sources, including software bugs, security incidents, hardware malfunctions, and human errors. As robotic systems are deployed in various domains and application contexts, such as manufacturing sites, shop floors, agriculture, and autonomous vehicles, ensuring their safe and secure operation is a crucial aspect. While high-fidelity simulations are frequently used to validate system behavior and to perform tests, the “simulator-to-reality gap” presents significant challenges, requiring additional field testing to validate a system under realistic conditions. As simulations alone are insufficient for performing comprehensive testing and for ensuring adherence to both functional and non-functional requirements, real-world field testing helps to alleviate these issues. However, compared to wellestablished unit testing approaches, field testing typically is still a rather ad hoc process, with insufficient support from tools and frameworks. Field tests often heavily rely on human observations, hence risking overlooking critical issues. There is a pressing need for structured, guided field-testing processes combined with adaptive runtime monitoring to capture the data required for effective error diagnosis and analysis. This paper introduces initial concepts for the Smart Unified Runtime Monitoring Infrastructure for Guided Field-Testing (SMURF) framework designed for robotic applications, combining structured test execution with automated, adaptable monitors, to ensure the efficient collection of data required for post-test analysis. Building on prior efforts in drone field-testing frameworks, we extend our scope to identify essential features for testing and monitoring ROS-based systems. This paper investigates on the feasibility of automatically detecting the legal area of court rulings. Hereby, we establish the hypothesis that the allocation to a field of law is often ambiguous and errors occur in that process as a result. A dataset constituting over 9.000 labelled court rulings was used in order to train different machine learning (ML) classifiers. Additionally, we applied rule-based approaches utilizing domain knowledge of legal experts. Our models outperformed the rule-based approaches significantly. Hence, we could show that the performance of ML models are less prone to errors than the manual assignment of legal experts. Copyright © 2020 for this paper by its authors. With recent advances in the development of more powerful quantum computers, the research area of quantum software engineering is emerging. Quantum software plays a critical role in exploiting the full potential of quantum computing systems. As a result, it has been drawing increasing attention recently to provide concepts, principles, and guidelines to address the ongoing challenges of quantum software development. The importance of the topic motivated us to voice out a call for action to develop a readiness model that will help an organization assess its capability of migration from classic software engineering to quantum software engineering. The proposed model will be based on the existing multivocal literature, industrial empirical study, understanding of the process areas, challenging factors and enablers that could impact the quantum software engineering process. We believe that the proposed model will provide a roadmap for software development organizations to measure their readiness concerning to transformation from classic to quantum software engineering by suggesting best practices and highlighting important process areas, challenges, and enablers. © 2022, CC BY.

5G communication systems provide an end-to-end wireless connection to billions of users and devices across the globe. The quality of signals received during radio communication is notably influenced by the behavior of the radio propagation channel. A major parameter used in characterizing this channel is the Path Loss Exponent (PLE). Several works that have estimated and analyzed the PLE mostly considered the effect of distance and carrier frequency. However, the effect of base station antenna height and channel bandwidth on the PLE for 5G networks have not been adequately considered. To address this, the impact of antenna height of base station and channel bandwidth on the PLE within the 5G Frequency Range 1 (FR1) frequencies was investigated in this study, specifically at 800, 3500, and 5900 MHz. The licensed EDX Signal Pro software® with Cirrus high resolution global terrain and clutter data base was utilized to model, simulate and analyze the PLE for Kano City, Nigeria. Results showed that for the tested frequencies, an increase in either base station height or channel bandwidth leads to a significant reduction in the PLE. This study can be utilized by network planning engineers and the wireless research community to further improve network implementation and optimization toward understanding the behavior of signal propagation in 5G networks and beyond. © 2023 IEEE.

Speech signal processing is a cornerstone of modern communication technologies, tasked with improving the clarity and comprehensibility of audio data in noisy environments. The primary challenge in this field is the effective separation and recognition of speech from background noise, crucial for applications ranging from voice-activated assistants to automated transcription services. The quality of speech recognition directly impacts user experience and accessibility in technology-driven communication. This review paper explores advanced clustering techniques, particularly focusing on the Kernel Fuzzy C-Means (KFCM) method, to address these challenges. Our findings indicate that KFCM, compared to traditional methods like K-Means (KM) and Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), provides superior performance in handling nonlinear and non-stationary noise conditions in speech signals. The most notable outcome of this review is the adaptability of KFCM to various noisy environments, making it a robust choice for speech enhancement applications. Additionally, the paper identifies gaps in current methodologies, such as the need for more dynamic clustering algorithms that can adapt in real time to changing noise conditions without compromising speech recognition quality. Key contributions include a detailed comparative analysis of current clustering algorithms and suggestions for further integrating hybrid models that combine KFCM with neural networks to enhance speech recognition accuracy. Through this review, we advocate for a shift towards more sophisticated, adaptive clustering techniques that can significantly improve speech enhancement and pave the way for more resilient speech processing systems. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper deals with the problem of detecting the malware by using emulation approach. Modern malware include various avoid techniques, to hide its anomaly actions. Advantages of using sandbox and emulation technologies are described. Various anti-emulation techniques that are used in modern malware considered. Obfuscation as one primary approach to hide malware malicious actions described and discussed. State of emulator is presented, and the advantages of its usage are covered. Distributed model for malware detection is considered. Basic emulator and its current capabilities presented. Prepared files that represent malware are described. Experimental results for developed files that differs with included avoid techniques are presented. Disadvantages of proposed approach is described. Future research and sandbox improvement are described.

Personas, as a tool for characterising end-users, are widely utilised in requirements engineering (RE), primarily to enhance the understanding of end-users and their needs. However, the efficacy of persona usage in RE practice remains inadequately explored. To bridge this gap, we conducted an interview-based study with 22 international RE experts. These experts shared their experiences in utilising personas for RE-related tasks. Through thematic analysis of the collected insights, we propose recommendations for the effective creation and integration of personas in RE tasks. Our suggestions for efficient persona usage in RE emphasise the necessity of direct human interaction throughout persona development, while also con-sidering project constraints. We recommend creating personas that reflect the needs and preferences of persona consumers regarding the information included and the presentation style. Additionally, fostering organisational awareness of the benefits of personas in understanding targeted end-users is crucial. Lastly, we highlight the importance of the interpersonal skills required by requirements engineers to support the successful incorporation of personas in RE.

Facial expressions are the most effective way to characterize people’s motives, emotions, and feelings. Several new methods are proposed each year; however, the accuracy of facial expression recognition still needs to be improved especially in uncontrolled conditions. In this paper, we propose a hybrid facial expression model that considers both texture and orientation features to classify expressions. Two types of descriptors namely Local binary pattern and Weber local descriptor are used to preserve the local intensity information and orientation of edges. In the next step, computing the Histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) features from the Local binary pattern and Weber local descriptor images to capture micro-expressions. Then, the AdaBoost feature selection algorithm is utilized to choose the best features from the combined HOG features. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the method proposed in this study performs better than existing methods.

In this paper, we consider the problem where a drone has to collect semantic information to classify multiple moving targets. In particular, we address the challenge of computing control inputs that move the drone to informative viewpoints, position and orientation, when the information is extracted using a "black-box" classifier, e.g., a deep learning neural network. These algorithms typically lack of analytical relationships between the viewpoints and their associated outputs, preventing their use in information-gathering schemes. To fill this gap, we propose a novel attention-based architecture, trained via Reinforcement Learning (RL), that outputs the next viewpoint for the drone favoring the acquisition of evidence from as many unclassified targets as possible while reasoning about their movement, orientation, and occlusions. Then, we use a low-level MPC controller to move the drone to the desired viewpoint taking into account its actual dynamics. We show that our approach not only outperforms a variety of baselines but also generalizes to scenarios unseen during training. Additionally, we show that the network scales to large numbers of targets and generalizes well to different movement dynamics of the *** Codes 68T40 Copyright © 2022, The Authors. An analysis of optoelectronic image, received from space-based observation system has been carried out. It has been found out, that this image has a complex structure and a unimodal intensity histogram. Otsu method is chosen as to segment the image. This method is easy and relatively quick, when talking of its realization. Methods of global and adaptive thresholding have been researched to perform image segmentation. Results of experimental research of segmentation of optoelectronic image from space-based observation system with use of Otsu method are developed. Ways for future research in this area are defined. © 2023 IEEE.
