Point clouds from real-world scenarios inevitably contain complex noise, significantly impairing the accuracy of downstream tasks. To tackle this challenge, cascading encoder-decoder architecture has become a conventional technical route to iterative denoise. However, circularly feeding the output of denoiser as its input again involves the re-extraction of underlying surface, leading to unstable denoising process and over-smoothed geometric details. To address these issues, we propose a novel denoising paradigm dubbed PD-Refiner that employs a single encoder to model the underlying surface. Then, we leverage several lightweight hierarchical Underlying Surface Inheritance Refiners (USIRs) to inherit and strengthen it, thereby avoiding the re-extraction from the intermediate point cloud. Furthermore, we design adaptive edge-aware supervision to improve the edge awareness of the USIRs, allowing for the adjustment of the denoising preferences from global structure to local details. The results demonstrate that our method not only achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of denoising stability and efficacy, but also enhances edge clarity and point cloud uniformity. © 2024 ACM.

Facial expressions are the most effective way to characterize people's motives, emotions, and feelings. Several new methods are proposed each year;however, the accuracy of facial expression recognition still needs to be improved especially in uncontrolled conditions. In this paper, we propose a hybrid facial expression model that considers both texture and orientation features to classify expressions. Two types of descriptors namely Local binary pattern and Weber local descriptor are used to preserve the local intensity information and orientation of edges. In the next step, computing the Histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) features from the Local binary pattern and Weber local descriptor images to capture micro-expressions. Then, the AdaBoost feature selection algorithm is utilized to choose the best features from the combined HOG features. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the method proposed in this study performs better than existing methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, the search for malicious code in information systems is relevant. The analysis showed that existing static analyzers detect vulnerabilities in the code, but not malicious code, as a result of which it was decided to create a new static analyzer with zero false positives, which will not only search for malicious code, but also indicate its location. A formalized representation of the task of detecting malicious code based on static analysis using set theory based on the introduction of a function that matches each element with a maliciousness factor is proposed. A technique for detecting malicious code in the source code based on lexical, semantic and static analysis has been developed. An experimental study has shown that the accuracy of detecting malicious code has increased by three percent, and the F1 measure - by five percent, compared to the best similar tool, which indicates a more effective performance of the task of detecting malicious code by the developed algorithm compared to analogs.

Finding a barrier-free accessible path through the built environment is necessary for wheelchair users. Researchers have identified the effect of surface vibration on the health of wheelchair users and proposed various solutions to identify and annotate mobility barriers. However, the effects of surface-induced vibration on accessibility are yet to be investigated. In order to address this problem, we present the WheelShare system, which uses machine learning to identify surfaces and curbs from vibration captured by accelerometer and gyroscope sensors (both smartphone and wearable device). WheelShare allows users to share their collected data via crowdsourcing. Based on this surface-specific vibration, we recognize 32 different surfaces found across the built environment (in Austria, China, France, Germany, India, and the USA for 32 human subjects) with an accuracy of 97.5%. The recognized surfaces are then grouped into different categories based on their characteristics. Our novel contributions in this article include the following. 1) We have developed a machine-learning-enabled surface recognition system that uses sensor data to capture surface-induced vibration patterns. 2) We have tested the robustness of the system for devices with only accelerometer data (such as low-end smartphones) and achieved an accuracy of 91.6%. 3) We have deployed our prototype WheelShare system for real-time surface classification in new sites that are unseen in training and testing and successfully recognized the surface characteristics. © 2020 IEEE.

Model transformation languages are special-purpose languages, which are designed to define transformations as comfortably as possible, i.e., often in a declarative way. Typically, developers create their transformations based on small input models which systematically cover the language of the input models. This makes it difficult for the developers to estimate how the transformations would perform for a large and diverse set of input models. Hence, developers would benefit from an approach for predicting the performance of model transformations based on just abstract characteristics of input models. Regression approaches based on machine learning lend themselves well to such predictions. However, it is currently unknown, whether and which regression approach is suitable in this context as well as how a model should be abstractly characterized for this purpose. We conducted several experiments to analyze how well different machine learning methods predict the execution time of model transformations defined in the Atlas Transformation Language (ATL) transformations for distinct sets of model characteristics. As possible methods, we have investigated linear regression, random forests and support vector regression using a radial basis function kernel. The results of our experiments show that support vector regression is the best choice in terms of usability and prediction accuracy for the model transformation modules covered in our experiments and is thus suited for a prediction approach. In addition, simple model characterizations based only on the number of model elements, the number of references, and the number of attributes are a suitable way to easily describe a model and to achieve decent prediction accuracy. © 2023 Owner/Author.

With the ever-rising risk of phishing attacks, which capitalize on vulnerable human behavior in the contemporary digital space, requires new cybersecurity methods. This literary work contributes to the solution by novel incorporation of three techniques: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Random Forest (RF). Utilizing NLP for deep analysis of text in phishing e-mails, SVM for strong categorization and Random Forest's decision making by group helps in improving detection. This combination of language and pattern analysis along with group learning builds a fortified system. This approach differs from prior work on a variety of factors such as reliability, security, integrity, scalability, interpretability, transparency, and robustness. Thorough evaluation on a reliable dataset aimed to demonstrate the method's effectiveness, which resulted in 98.7 % of accuracy in detection. This majorly aims at showcasing the potential of ensemble techniques to combat against cyber-attacks like phishing for laying a strong foundation for a secure digital environment.

PIXHELL Attack: Leaking Sensitive information from Air-Gap Computers via ‘Singing Pixels’

Air-gapped systems are disconnected from the Internet and other networks because they contain or process sensitive data. However, it is known that attackers can use computer speakers to leak data via sound to circumvent the air-gap defense. To cope with this threat, when highly sensitive data is involved, the prohibition of loudspeakers or audio hardware might be enforced. This measure is known as an ‘audio gap’. In this paper, we present PIXHELL, a new type of covert channel attack allowing hackers to leak information via noise generated by the pixels on the screen. No audio hardware or loudspeakers is required. Malware in the air-gap and audio-gap computers generates crafted pixel patterns that produce noise in the frequency range of 0 - 22 kHz. The malicious code exploits the sound generated by coils and capacitors to control the frequencies emanating from the screen. Acoustic signals can encode and transmit sensitive information. We present the adversarial attack model, cover related work, and provide technical background. We discuss bitmap generation and correlated acoustic signals and provide implementation details on the modulation and demodulation process. We evaluated the covert channel on various screens and tested it with different types of information. We also discuss evasion and stealth using low-brightness patterns that appear like black, turned-off screens. Finally, we propose a set of countermeasures. Our test shows that with a PIXHELL attack, textual and binary data can be exfiltrated from air-gapped, audio-gapped computers at a distance of 2m via sound modulated from LCD screens. Water covers approximately 71% of the earth's surface, but only 1.2% of it can be used for drinking. However, due to the amount of waste water released into water resources, the presence of harmful microorganisms, and natural occurrences such as eutrophication, even that water cannot be used directly for drinking purposes without purification. One method of purifying water is chlorination. However, if the chlorine level exceeds the standard, it can cause both long-term and short-term illnesses. As a result, a system is imposed to solve four problems: predicting the pH value of chlorinated drinking water, determining the quantification value of active sludge in a wastewater plant, detecting microorganisms in drinking water, and predicting the percentage of eutrophication in a water resource. © 2022 IEEE.

The integration of diverse data sources into Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is a cornerstone for the advancement of digital twin technologies in industrial ecosystems. To ensure proper data integration, a concept should meet the requirements related to data integration as well as those related to AAS. This study compares three key data integration concepts for AAS-BaSyx Python SDK, BaSyx DataBridge, and the standardized descriptive approach through Asset Interfaces Description (AID) & Asset Interfaces Mapping Configuration (AIMC) submodels. To evaluate the advantages and limitations of each concept, this study employs 12 distinct criteria, assessing how effectively each concept aligns with these criteria. The result provides insights into the unique features of each concept, informing stakeholders about optimal strategies. This study suggests a synergistic approach that combines the advantages of the various methodologies, thereby overcoming individual limitations and enhancing the digital twin ecosystems. © 2024 IEEE.
