Knowledge graphs reflect various facts in the actual world through formal representations and are interconnected through topological structures. However, most knowledge graphs are incomplete. Knowledge graph completion infers unknown or implie d facts based on existing facts. ConvKB is a typical CNN-based model that captures the translation properties between embedding units of the same dimension through one-dimensional convolution. Since one-dimensional convolution can only receive restricted semantic information, w e use multi-scale convolution for capturing feature interactions between units of different dimensions. To further increase the number of interactions, we employ circular convolution. In our research, we introduce a simple and effective embedding model, named MCNKC, for knowledge graph completion. We demonstrate that MCNKC achieves better results than ConvKB on FB15K-237 and WN18RR. © 2023 IEEE.

Bacterial strains in the same genus share highly similar morphology, gram-staining characteristics, colony sizes, and spatial arrangements. Therefore, identifying them by deep learning can be quite challenging. This study aimed to assess the classification of 7 species of bacteria from 2 genera of Bacillus and Vibrio by using 8 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models. We implemented Python programming along with Keras API within the Jupyter Notebook. The models were constructed and evaluated under unbalanced and balanced datasets by augmentation (rotation, flip, etc.). Transfer learning with fine-tuning, and pre-processing of mixup and label smoothing were also applied to reduce overfitting and enhance generalization. Based on the experimental results on private dataset, the results of InceptionResNetV2 emerged as the top-performing model with a notable accuracy of 82.8%, 88.6% precision, 78.4% recall, and 78.0% F1-score when label smoothing was applied at 0.5 on balanced dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) promotes the development and popularity of Internet of Things (IoT) devices with higher connectivity and ultra-low latency through network topology optimization and real-time data analysis. With the exponential growth of data traffic generated by IoT devices, it is essential to prevent edge servers (ESs) from overloading through efficient task scheduling to ensure the quality of service (QoS). However, the lack of trust and incentive mechanisms between ESs deployed and managed by different infrastructure providers makes it challenging to perform peer-offloaded tasks. Moreover, to meet the low-latency requirement of many IoT applications, the execution efficiency of the task scheduling scheme in MEC needs to be improved. To address the above challenges systematically, a QoS-driven task scheduling scheme with blockchain in MEC named SharpEdge is proposed. In SharpEdge, ESs publish tasks with rewards and then select the most reliable executors through a historical performance-based reputation mechanism to perform peer offloading. The performance of the executor will be recorded into the blockchain after the task is completed. In addition, a concurrent consensus mechanism using sharding technology is designed, improving task scheduling efficiency. We implement SharpEdge based on Hyperledger Fabric and verify its performance in a simulated MEC environment. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

This paper extensively explores the global impact of COVID-19 on mortality, society, and health, emphasizing the pressing need for accurate prediction models to navigate the ever-changing virus strains. Deep learning models play a central role in numerous phases of COVID-19 prediction, as well as diagnosis, severity assessment, and therapeutic expansion. Challenges in virus diagnosis, especially the time-consuming RT-PCR test, are addressed by leveraging AI and deep learning algorithms to predict transmission patterns and identify high-risk patients using diverse data sources like X-rays, CT scans, clinical records, and lab results. The assessment of disease severity, spanning from mild symptoms to serious conditions like renal failure and heart damage, is a key focus. Deep learning frameworks offer promising alternatives, reducing resource-intensive testing while enhancing detection and in-depth analysis of complex medical data. The paper provides a systematic taxonomy categorizing research papers by research questions, offering a comprehensive overview of COVID-19 prediction research trends and gaps, with suggestions for exploring diverse data modalities, improving model interpretability through XAI, and integrating parallel processing. In summary, this paper offers valuable insights into the COVID-19 prediction landscape, serving as a vital resource for academics and researchers. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a multimodal interaction system designed for speech-based autism intervention in Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan children, utilizing the NAO robot. The system integrates four components, language content detection, dialog management, voice synthesis, and gesture synthesis, to create an engaging and adaptive therapeutic environment. By leveraging these technologies, the system provides real-time, personalized responses that align with the cultural and linguistic needs of Sinhala-speaking children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The NAO robot facilitates natural and supportive interaction through synchronized speech and gestures, aiming to improve communication and social skills in children with ASD. Preliminary evaluations demonstrate the potential of the system to enhance engagement and responsiveness in therapy sessions, marking a significant step forward in developing specialized interventions for autism in non-Western, non-English-speaking contexts. © 2024 IEEE.
