The scarcity of labeled data in graph neural networks (GNNs) has driven the development of graph contrastive learning (GCL), which has become the most widely used method in unsupervised representation learning. At present, many GCL approaches in the literature utilize random dropout nodes, edges, and masking features to enhance the two views and subsequently enhance consistency between these views. Although this approach is commendable, it fails to address issues such as unequal edge distribution and the varying sensitivity of node training in different augmented views. Given the complex nature of graph data structures, this paper proposes a new GCL framework called Graph Contrastive Learning with Adversarial Structure Refinement (ASR), which explicitly accounts for the graph topology. Specifically, we employ Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) as a view augmentation strategy to generate high-quality views. Additionally, we introduce a novel training method that incorporates node sensitivity as a regularization term to optimize the GCL training process. We conduct extensive experiments on eight benchmark datasets for node classification, and the results demonstrate that our method has achieved outstanding performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Despite the efforts to narrow the gap between software engineering learning and the need for practice in the software industry, beginners often find it difficult to match their academic skills with professional life practices. Therefore, there is an urgent need to know the best ways to provide students with the practical experiences they need to build professional competencies in the field of software engineering. This research aims to evaluate the extent to which students can employ software engineering concepts and apply them to their graduation projects. Besides, this study seeks to shed light on the methods used in teaching software engineering courses at the Faculty of information technology at the University of Benghazi, to improve them. To achieve this goal, we conducted a study spanning two semesters. The study includes a questionnaire to collect the answers of 74 university students studying in their final semester in the software engineering Department and working on their graduation project. We analyzed the results with responses from 30 students. The results show that students have some necessary skills that prepare them for future work in software engineering. The results also showed that there is a gap among students between the concepts they received and their practical application in their graduation projects. Some guidelines are presented that may contribute to improving the educational environment for teaching software engineering. © 2024 IEEE.

6DFLRNet: 6D rotation representation for head pose estimation based on facial landmarks and regression

Head pose estimation methods can be generally classified into two categories: model-based and appearance-based methods. The model-based approach relies on facial landmarks for three-dimensional reconstruction, aiming to achieve high-precision results. However, this method is heavily dependent on the accuracy of these landmarks. The appearance-based approach utilizes images as input and employs feature extraction and calculations to generate outcomes. While the appearance-based method boasts greater robustness, its accuracy falls short of the former. In this paper, a new and effective hybrid method is proposed. This hybrid approach combines the strengths of both methods. Unlike the conventional model-based methods, the proposed method regards the facial landmarks in 2D images as a sequence of neural network inputs and then obtains the head pose estimation results for users by neural network regression. The proposed method solves the fuzzy rotation labeling problem by using a rotation matrix representation, introducing a 6D rotation matrix representation as an intermediate state of the rotation matrix to achieve effective direct regression. Introducing face processing enhances the robustness of the model in cross-dataset scenarios. The proposed method achieves remarkable results based on imprecise face recognition and a simplistic model. The proposed method can be divided into three parts. First, the proposed method applies face processing on the input image;second, the method detects facial landmarks;and third, it converts these facial landmarks into sequences and obtains the 6D rotation representation of the head pose by regression. Extensive experiments on the publicly available BIWI, PRIMA, and DrivFace datasets show that this method is functional and performs better than other state-of-the-art methods. Usually, only time and distance are considered when choosing a route, not the risk involved. Due to not taking the danger into account before the trip, we might have to experience numerous problems and risks. As a result, there may be dangerous situations for the driver and passengers and time and fuel wastage. Thus, the issue is how to evaluate the road while choosing the route before using it and What elements are crucial to take into account while evaluating a route's issues. This project aims to develop a system to evaluate risk before a vehicle enters a dangerous area and predict the best path by evaluating aspects of roads including accidents, road repairs, and road blockers. Image Classification is used to detect road repairs and blockers. Federated Learning will be used to improve the accuracy of the Road blocker detector. Here, Clients will train locally using private data, send their optimized parameters to the central server, and then aggregate those trained parameters to produce a global model. This process will be continued until the system has a trained model that is ideal for predicting roadblocks. YOLOV7 object detector will be used to detect vehicle collisions and accidents in real-time. Finally, Federated Learning will be used to notify users about detected incidents and event details will be marked in a Google map which is running on a Flask application. Using the Blocker map, drivers can decide which route is more suitable based on the proposed system's detections and blocker details. © 2024 IEEE.

Legal professionals and law students often grapple with the arduous task of locating prior Supreme Court rulings for argument preparation and academic study, leading to a laborious and resource-intensive process. This study introduces an innovative approach to streamline the retrieval of legal information from Sri Lankan Supreme Court verdicts. The method centers on developing a Custom Named Entity Recognition (NER) model, boasting a remarkable accuracy exceeding 90%. This model efficiently extracts crucial legal entities from Supreme Court rulings, readily available on the Ministry of Justice's Supreme Court website. The high accuracy ensures precise entity extraction, followed by systematic organization within a dedicated database. Subsequently, a knowledge graph is formed by linking recorded legal entities, reducing information retrieval time to a mere 179 milliseconds, significantly outperforming existing methods. Moreover, a BART summarization model is crafted to generate concise, accurate, and insightful summaries of Supreme Court decisions, boasting an impressive ROGUE1 score of 85%. This approach revolutionizes legal information retrieval, delivering a user-friendly platform that enhances the identification of cases and fosters a deeper understanding, ultimately elevating the quality of legal research and practice. © 2023 IEEE.

DFU_XAI: A Deep Learning-Based Approach to Diabetic Foot Ulcer Detection Using Feature Explainability

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a potentially fatal complication of diabetes. Traditional techniques of DFU analysis and therapy are more time-consuming and costly. Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep neural networks, has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in medical applications. Despite this, the lack of explainability of deep learning models is currently viewed as a key hurdle to using these approaches in actual clinical settings. In this research, we present the DFU_XAI framework for assessing the interpretability of explainable-driven deep learning (DL) models. DFU_XAI evaluates five DL models (Xception, DenseNet121, ResNet50, InceptionV3, and MobileNetV2) to establish a transparent DL framework using three state-of-the-art explanation methods: Shapley additive explanation (SHAP), local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME), and gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM). ResNet50 outperformed the other four models with remarkable results: 98.75% accuracy, 99.2% precision, 97.6% recall, 98.4% F1-score, and 98.5% AUC. For the most part, it can locate diabetic foot ulcers precisely on a diabetic foot and discriminate between diabetic foot ulcers and healthy feet in the DFU dataset. A heat map will indicate the precise location of the ulcer that needs care. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2024.
