Recent changes in the United States telecommunications industry-both regulatory and market driven-provide an environment for integrating wireless and wireline services and the infrastructure used to provide them. Changes in the industry have created competition in local access, deregulation that allows bundling of services and one-stop shopping, and multiple personal communication services (PCS) licensees, each with the desire to differentiate its service offering with value-added capabilities. Integrating wireless and wireline services enables service providers to offer a seamless wireless/wireline service and help control infrastructure and ongoing administrative costs. This paper highlights some advantages for integrating these systems in the U.S. market today. We describe a vision of the long-term services architecture for a functional solution and several near-term product concepts designed to provide an integrated wireless/wireline service.

Models are popular artefacts in the software development process which promise to improve stakeholder communication and the overall quality of a software system under construction. Recent research proposes that the usefulness of models is not limited only to the software design phase: Empirical evidence indicates that manual analysis of a running system is improved when models are linked to recorded runtime events. However, software architects are confronted with various design decisions when designing a system that yields the required runtime events and correlates them to the model elements they originate from. The contribution of this paper is a taxonomy of architectural design decisions distilled from a series of qualitative studies following a multi-method research study design: We utilized coding techniques from Grounded Theory to build an initial taxonomy from architectural concepts found in the literature, and verified and extended the taxonomy independently by five novice software architects in a practical scenario. The resulting taxonomy captures essential architectural decisions when implementing a system that supports the analysis of its runtime behaviour using models. We then performed initial steps towards a architectural guidance model by applying the taxonomy to another realistic scenario, following the Design Science Research method, in order to analyze the properties and deepen our own technical understanding of the captured concepts in the taxonomy.

Mobile users can be recommended services or goods precisely according to their actual needs even in different contexts. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a framework integrating following functions: context identification, context reasoning, services or product recommendations and other tasks for the mobile terminal. In this paper, we firstly introduce mobile context awareness theory, and describe the composition of context-aware mobile systems. Secondly, we construct a framework of mobile context-aware recommendation system in line with the characteristics of mobile terminal devices and mobile context-aware data. Then, we build a nested key-value storage model and an up-to-date algorithm for mining mobile context-aware sequential pattern,in order to find both the user's long-term behavior pattern and the new trend of his recent behavior, to predict user's next behavior. Lastly, we discuss the difficulties and future development trend of mobile context-aware recommendation system.

Change is an essential characteristic of software development, as software systems must respond to evolving requirements, platforms, and other environmental pressures. In this paper, we discuss the concept of software evolution from several perspectives. We examine how it relates to and differs from software maintenance. We discuss insights about software evolution arising from Lehmanpsilas laws of software evolution and the staged lifecycle model of Bennett and Rajlich. We compare software evolution to other kinds of evolution, from science and social sciences, and we examine the forces that shape change. Finally, we discuss the changing nature of software in general as it relates to evolution, and we propose open challenges and future directions for software evolution research.

In comparison to conventional hexagonal honeycomb structures,auxetic metamaterials with re-entrant configurations have exhibited superior mechanical properties in terms of energy *** further enhance the energy absorption capacity of these materials,a novel re-entrant honeycomb configuration,named novel auxetic re-entrant honeycomb(NARH),is developed by incorporating“<>”-shaped cell walls into the conventional auxetic re-entrant honeycomb(ARH).Two analytical models for the plateau stress are formulated to consider the plastic deformation of NARH during quasi-static compression and the dynamic impact using the linear momentum ***-static compression tests on 3D printed NARH honeycomb specimens and finite element simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical *** exhibits higher plateau stresses compared with ARH during compression,which can be attributed to the presence of more plastic hinges formed in *** hinges,the embedded parts with inclined cell walls,not only improve stability by forming stable triangles during compression but also enhance the energy absorption capacity.A parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of impact velocity,thickness,and incline angle of cell walls on *** simulations demonstrate higher sensitivity of the mechanical properties to impact velocity and cell wall *** ribs to the“<>”-shaped cell walls in NARH further reduces the initial peak force during dynamic crushing while maintaining high energy *** research provides valuable guidelines for the design of energy absorption metamaterials.

Urbanization is associated with increasing the temperature of urban areas and phenomena like the Urban Heat Island (UHI). The latter produces a sensible impact on people's health, quality of life, urban liveability, and even the mortality rate. As a result, reducing high temperatures in cities will improve the quality of life in cities. Overall, the understanding of the relationship between UHI and urban features is not well captured due to a lack of accessibility to data and cost implications related to long-term monitoring and simulation processes. Machine Learning (ML) offers significant opportunities to develop approaches that lead to high accuracy in discovering the significant features of buildings and urban areas, improving the conditions of the inhabitants. The paper aims to describe how the actual spatial data of Tallinn, Estonia, were assessed and applied to build an Explainable ML-based model. The study outcomes include the ML-based models that help understand the importance of urban features and their value in developing strategies and solutions to mitigate the UHI effect. The study's findings show that changes in the most important features of urban areas and buildings, such as the built area in the neighborhood zone and the area and orientation of buildings, play the most significant role in transforming an urban area from one with no UHI effect to one that experiences heat waves. The results provide essential information for urban planners who implement built environments. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Matchmaking is the basis of service discovery and composition. Using ontology semantically express the capabilities of services, accurately match, discovery and composition service. Domain ontologies and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) aim at modeling concepts, the role of FCA in ontology engineering is supporting the critical task of reusing independently developed domain ontologies. Evaluating concept similarity identifies the different concepts that are semantically close. In this paper, using concept and attribute of Web services to construct the ontology. Also, an ontology-based method for assessing similarity between FCA concepts is proposed. Such a method is intended to support the ontology engineer in difficult activities such as ontology merging and ontology mapping in the development of the Semantic Web. © 2010 IEEE.

Vector-reduction operation is the basis of many scientific computations. FPGA-based vector-reduction circuit must use deeply pipelined floating-point IP cores to gain a performance advantage over general-purpose processor (GPP). Improper design of reduction circuit will destroy the benefit from pipelining or impose unrealistic buffer requirements. In this paper, a high-performance improved reduction method is proposed and analyzed for FPGA platform. This design runs in optimal time while requires only four buffers of fixed size and a single pipelined floating-point unit. Using ALTERA Cyclone II EP2C70F896C6 as the target device, we implement vector summation which is most common example of vector-reduction using improved reduction method. © 2011 IEEE.

First-trimester maternal screening is a widely used test for detecting fetal aneuploidies and neural tube defects for over two decades. Human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (beta-hCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) are two serum biomarkers that are analyzed in this screening. The thyroid hormone is a critical hormone for normal pregnancy and fetal development. During the first half of pregnancy, placental and fetal development depends on the thyroid hormone levels in the mother. Therefore, thyroid abnormalities in the mother can result in unfavorable pregnancy outcomes such as intrauterine growth restriction, miscarriage, hypertensive disorders, premature birth, and an increase in the risk of low IQ in the newborn. In this study, we analyzed the first-trimester screening data collected from 410 pregnant women who were seen at Yale University Hospital Prenatal Unit;and checked for possible correlations of TSH levels with maternal characteristics, racial group PAPP-A MoM levels. © 2022 IEEE.

As the global climate continues to change, ice floe channels are gradually becoming a common operating environment for icebreakers. It is essential to investigate the ice resistance performance under such conditions. A coupled computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) is used to numerically simulate the navigation of a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in an ice floe area. Specifically, CFD is used to solve the hydrodynamics to determine the hydrodynamics of the ship. A numerical model of the ship-ice-water interaction has been developed by considering the collision forces between ice-ice, ship-ice and ice-wall in conjunction with the discrete element method. The results of the numerical calculations are compared with semi-empirical formulae to validate the ability of the method to accurately predict the ice resistance of a navigating ship. Based on this validation, a series of simulations are carried out to investigate the process characteristics of the ship-ice interaction and the effects of different parameters, such as ship speed, ice concentration and ice shape, on the ice resistance. This paper proposes a practical method for predicting the resistance of a ship while navigating in an ice floe channel, which provides a theoretical basis for the optimal design of polar ships. © 2024 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
