Although orthopedics is becoming increasingly important as a medical domain, especially in emerging countries, the level of automation is still marginal and hardly any Industry 4.0 paradigms have been implemented. In this scientific work, solution concepts for holistic process automation in orthopedics are introduced so that prosthetic covers and orthoses for different body regions can be automated by using AI and evaluated with sensor networks. In this process, body scan models are adapted to the conditions of the anatomy or prosthesis models, so that stability as well as fitting accuracy are given in comparison with the other half of the body. Automation in the field of orthopedics leads not only to a significant reduction in costs but can also help to close the research gap regarding objectifiability of results. The first partial aspects have already been successfully implemented for leg prostheses, arm prostheses and shoe insoles with the aid of machine learning processes and physical models for elastic form fitting. As soon as the overall process has been realized, the applicability will be validated in the following year of the project by means of clinical studies and evaluated by utilizing sensor networks for pressure and temperature measurements. © 2023 The Authors.

The Internet has opened the floor to stakeholders by redefining the way of organizing, communicating, and collaborating that was initiated by the Web's development. The advancement of the World Wide Web is an outright phenomenon and significant and we witnessed the evolution of the Web. As decentralized technologies continue to gain traction, Web3, or the decentralized internet, has emerged as a promising approach to enable a more secure, transparent, and privacy-preserved digital landscape. In this paper, we thoroughly conduct a systematic study to explore the challenges and opportunities encountered by blockchain developers in the context of decentralized applications (dApps) in Web3. We analyze a set of peer-reviewed research articles, whitepapers, and technical reports and present an in-depth understanding of the current state of Web3 development and its implications. Our finding indicates the opportunities that Web3 can facilitate, such as expanded use cases, enhanced security and privacy, decentralized infrastructure, and the potential for enabling inclusive development resources for blockchain developers. Additionally, we highlight various challenges that blockchain developers deal with including scalability, security, privacy, interoperability, and the need for standardized tools and frameworks along with various challenges in the software development lifecycle (SDLC). While there are significant challenges to overcome, the potential benefits of Web3 are substantial and could lead to a more inclusive, secure, and transparent digital ecosystem. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of continued research, collaboration, and innovation among stakeholders to address the identified challenges and capitalize on Web3's opportunities. © 2024 IEEE.

Secure Batch Deduplication without Dual Servers in Backup System

Cloud storage provides highly available and low cost resources to users. However, as massive amounts of outsourced data grow rapidly, an effective data deduplication scheme is necessary. This is a hot and challenging field, in which there are quite a few researches. However, most of previous works require dual-server fashion to be against brute-force attacks and do not support batch checking. It is not practicable for the massive data stored in the cloud. In this paper, we present a secure batch deduplication scheme for backup system. Besides, our scheme resists the brute-force attacks without the aid of other servers. The core idea of the batch deduplication is to separate users into different groups by using short hashes. Within each group, we leverage group key agreement and symmetric encryption to achieve secure batch checking and semantically secure storage. We also extensively evaluate its performance and overhead based on different datasets. We show that our scheme saves the data storage by up to 89.84%. These results show that our scheme is efficient and scalable for cloud backup system and can also ensure data confidentiality. IEEE

The Domain gap is an important issue when applying AI-based approaches to clinical use. Many recent approaches introduce domain adaptation (DA) to eliminate the influence of the domain gap. However, these approaches usually require modifications of network weights and losing the ability in the source (training) domain. To perform zero-shot domain adaptation without forgetting the source domain, in this work, we propose a novel reinforcement learning (RL) based framework which modifies the distribution of the input data instead of the weights of the pre-trained model. The RL agent observes the rendering results of the CT volume and uses a look-up table to perform non-linear mapping on the input to the standard distribution without tuning the original model weights. Since the pre-trained weights are fixed, the model can still generalize well on the source domain. Experiments show that the proposed approach dramatically improves the generalization of the proposed model (Dice score from 73.26% to 77.84%) without forgetting the source domain.

Semantic interoperability is one of the most critical challenges for software developers while integrating two or more context-aware systems. In such circumstances, it is essential to understand the meaning and interpretation of various contexts in different business domains and to align context ontologies together. Our investigations reveal that existing works poorly address these requirements. To fill this gap, this paper proposes the Ontology as a Service (OaaS) approach to facilitate the semantic interoperability of context-aware systems. In the proposed solution, the complexities of semantic interoperability are resolved and handled by a standalone ontology service, which can be easily reused and consumed by different ontology service consumers and brokers. The proposed ontology service includes several ontology repositories, a web service that positions a context concept in the existing ontologies and another web service that maps the relationship between existing context concepts. We evaluated our approach with a case study that resolves three semantic differences between two IoT applications originating from heterogeneous domains of smart home and health environments.

In cross-lingual language understanding, machine translation is often utilized to enhance the transferability of models across languages, either by translating the training data from the source language to the target, or from the target to the source to aid inference. However, in cross-lingual machine reading comprehension (MRC), it is difficult to perform a deep level of assistance to enhance cross-lingual transfer because of the variation of answer span positions in different languages. In this paper, we propose X-STA, a new approach for cross-lingual MRC. Specifically, we leverage an attentive teacher to subtly transfer the answer spans of the source language to the answer output space of the target. A Gradient-Disentangled Knowledge Sharing technique is proposed as an improved cross-attention block. In addition, we force the model to learn semantic alignments from multiple granularities and calibrate the model outputs with teacher guidance to enhance cross-lingual transferability. Experiments on three multi-lingual MRC datasets show the effectiveness of our method, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches. 1 Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this work, we have used biospeckle analysis to assess the viability of kidney bean seeds. Biospeckle analysis is a noncontact and nondestructive technique for the detection and evaluation of different biological and nonbiological samples when illuminated by a highly coherent laser source. groups of kidney seeds (viable and nonviable) were provided similar germination conditions for the same time. Activity images for each group were recorded through a CCD camera and processed using highly efficient robust indexing based inertia moment (IM) and absolute value of difference (AVD) techniques. To consider the inhomogeneity of the sample, the random time history of speckle pattern (RTHSP) was used. Obtained results conclusively establish biospeckle analysis as an efficient tool for evaluating the viability of kidney beans. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Detecting anomalies in industrial time series data is crucial for maintaining complex systems, avoiding costly downtime, and ensuring safety. Conventional approaches often require assistance in accurately identifying outliers, particularly in dynamic and noisy industrial environments. This paper proposes a novel framework, called Structured State Space Diffusion Anomaly Detection (SSSDAD), that utilizes Denoising Diffusion Models (DDMs) for robust detection of outliers in industrial time series data. Our approach combines deep generative models with the temporal modeling capabilities of Structured State Space Models to capture the variability and complex temporal dependencies in industrial processes. The DDM is trained on the underlying dynamics of normal operation, allowing our model to distinguish between regular fluctuations and anomalous events in industrial systems. In addition, we present a customized detection mechanism based on reconstruction error that uses the learned representations of the DDM to measure deviations from the expected behavior. Our approach performs better in identifying anomalies than traditional methods and has been proven effective in various industrial datasets, including a real-world dataset of an electric truck. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

When exchanging data with an untrusted counterpart, there is a risk that the counterpart will not behave honestly. Fair exchange protocols provide fairness guarantees to involved parties, e.g., by employing blockchains as trusted third parties. However, blockchain transaction fees and block creation times render such protocols expensive and slow. Furthermore, grieving attacks impose the risk of significant unilateral costs. To improve on all three, we propose a state channel-based fair exchange protocol with a mechanism to prevent grieving attacks. Our protocol lowers the cost of repeating exchanges and increases performance while preserving security guarantees of state-of-the-art fair exchange protocols. Using the Ethereum blockchain and the Perun state channel framework, we evaluate our protocol with regard to cost and performance showing significant improvements in comparison to the state-of-the-art.

Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) are at the heart of almost every software we encounter. GUIs are often created through a collaborative effort involving UX designers, product owners, and software developers, constantly facing changing requirements. Historically, problems in GUI development include a fragmented, poorly integrated tool landscape and high synchronization efforts between stakeholders. Recent approaches suggest using large language models (LLMs) to recognize requirements fulfillment in GUIs and automatically propose new GUI components. Based on ten interviews with practitioners, this paper proposes an LLM-based assistant as a Figma plug-in that bridges the gap between user stories and GUI prototyping. We evaluated the prototype with 40 users and 40 crowd-workers, showing that the effectiveness of GUI creation is improved by using LLMs to detect requirements' completion and generate new GUI components. We derive design rationales to support cross-functional integration in software development, ensuring that our plug-in integrates well into established processes. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
