Detection of microplastics in water environments and consumables is essential to evaluate the abundance, sources, transport pathways, degradation, and exposure risks of these emergent contaminants. In this study,we explore the potential of detecting microplastics in aqueous samples using a microwave sensor integrated in a microfluidic platform. The principle relies on the change in permittivity of the water due to the presence of microplastics that, in turn, leads to a resonance frequency shift recorded by the microwave sensor. The method is tested using 20 and 70 μm polyethylene microspheres. Both the experimental data and the numerical simulations show consistent dependencies of the frequency shift on the size and concentration of the microspheres, as well as on temperature. However, the experimental trends in resonance frequency are not as pronounced as predicted by the numerical simulations. In addition, the limits of detection of the current microwave-microfluidic device are much higher than the typical particle abundances encountered in most freshwaters. Based on these preliminary results, we outline potential directions for the further development of microfluidic microwave sensing of microplastics in water samples. © 2024, The Authors. With the rapid development of mobile communication technology,the application of internet of vehicles(IoV)services,such as for information services,driving safety,and traffic efficiency,is growing *** businesses with low transmission delay,high data processing capacity and large storage capacity,by deploying edge computing in the IoV,data processing,encryption and decision-making can be completed at the local end,thus providing real-time and highly reliable communication *** roadside unit(RSU),as an important part of edge computing in the IoV,fulfils an important data forwarding function and provides an interactive communication channel for vehicles and server *** computing resources can be configured to accommodate the computing requirements of *** this study,a virtual traffic defense strategy based on a differential game is proposed to solve the security problem of user-sensitive information leakage when an RSU is *** incentive mechanism encourages service vehicles within the hot range to send virtual traffic to another *** attracting the attention of attackers,it covers the target RSU and protects the system from *** results show that the scheme provides the optimal strategy for intelligent vehicles to transmit virtual data,and ensures the maximization of users’interests.

Nonverbal Behavior Analysis for Instructors With Deep Semantic Segmentation and Pose Classification

In typical instructional situations, teachers’ nonverbal behavior such as body language and eye contact are useful cues for efficient teacher-student communication, and many efforts have been devoted for automatic nonverbal behavior capture and analyses. Existing vision-based methods mostly rely on motion tracking which are limited to scenes with static and simple background. To tackle this problem, we proposed a deep learning approach for instructor’s nonverbal behavior analysis, which used a two-stage architecture with an encoder-decoder network for semantic scene segmentation, and passed the segmented image to a classification network to recognize the teaching pose from six pre-defined categories. We also collected and annotated two datasets, i.e., Classroom-Seg and Classroom-Pose for the training and testing of data-driven methods for behavior understanding in the classroom. Our classroom scene segmentation algorithm achieved an optimal average precision of 84.95% on the classroom-Seg dataset, which exceeded DeepLabV3+ by 1.9% with significant less computational resources. The pose classification part achieved an average accuracy of 87.83% on the Classroom-Pose dataset. Our method and constructed datasets can serve as a building block for intelligent scene understanding and behavior analyses in the classroom. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A real-life industrial application in the area of optical components polishing demonstrates the benefits.

Future 6G network AI architecture will provide customized services for everyone, so it is necessary to concentrate on user requirements. Most applications adopt delay as a critical indicator, but few studies have explored its distribution's underlying causes in detail. To address this issue, we analyzed some comparable datasets, i.e., Alibaba Cluster Traces for the years 2017 and 2018, aiming to get some insights from the facts. Traces contain both high-priority online tasks and low-priority batch tasks. We observed the distributions of multiple fields and found several insights: (i) Due to the low priority, the planned CPU cores of batch tasks will be limited by the online tasks. In other words, the service delay of batch tasks will be impacted by the high-priority online tasks. (ii) The overall distribution of task delays and planned CPU cores has upper and lower bounds, both of which can be fitted with logarithmic functions. (iii) The future network AI architecture will be multi-tier and resource fine-grained. Because the flexibility of resource allocation for batch tasks will increase as the CPU granularity of the online tasks grows.

Critical infrastructures increasingly rely on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for inspection tasks. The significance of different components within these infrastructures is subject to variability and can be influenced by external factors. The principal aim of routine UAV inspections is to ensure differentiated coverage of pivotal sections with minimal energy consumption. However, extant research on UAV path coverage fails to fully account for the variability and dynamic shifts in regional significance and their impact on coverage efficacy. This paper presents an energy-aware collaborative coverage policy for UAVs, designated as ***-MATD3 employs a dynamic weight region partitioning method tailored to real-world environments and addresses the action selection challenge for UAVs using a discrete Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (Dec-POMDP). By amalgamating MATD3 with stacked LSTM, this approach mitigates redundant path overlaps and unnecessary action replication across multiple agents, thus optimizing coverage and diminishing energy usage. Simulation outcomes demonstrate that EA-MATD3 reduces energy consumption by an average of 9.65% relative to the Greedy, MADDPG, and MATD3 algorithms while sustaining a superior coverage rate.

The paper outlines the divergence of beam and operating wavelength bands effects on free-space optics communication channels in local access networks. The max Q factor and min bit error rate are measured based on the divergence of beam and operating wavelength bands variations. The signal is tested also at the receiver side by using an optical power meter visualizer at various operating signal wavelength bands and under the optimum values of the divergence of the beam. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) enables communication among automation systems, machinery, and sensors in an industrial setting. To optimize critical industrial operations, a substantial volume of data concerning diverse in-factory activities and automation services is generated by IoT devices and sensors. This data is subsequently transferred to distant processing systems for analysis and decision-making. Nevertheless, a substantial latency in data transmission or any abnormality in the generated data may result in delayed or erroneous decisions, consequently impacting the efficacy of essential industrial systems. To address these challenges, we established an intelligent network architecture utilizing software-defined networking that achieves tactile latencies efficiently while handling industrial data traffic in an energy-efficient manner. To address the initial challenge, the suggested architecture utilizes the Self-Organized Maps approach to distinguish between industrial traffic requiring tactile latencies and non-tactile traffic. We utilize a binary tree-based flow table mapping method to enhance flow table matching and decrease lookup times. To address the second challenge, we employ the Support Vector Machine technique to identify anomalies in real-time industrial data traffic. The Hadoop system and Mininet emulator are utilized to evaluate the proposed architecture using the UNSW dataset. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested solution in providing energy-efficient tactile assurances and identifying anomalies in traffic. © 2014 IEEE.

Evaluating the utility of a software product is necessary because it allows organizational processes to function properly and for end users to be satisfied. At this way, we decided to automate the management process in the planning, register and monitoring of activities in the development and quality areas of a technology development company. We figured out that this process has limitations due to the use of multiple tools such as software and applications that work in isolation, which complicates the orderly and systematized work and activities of the team. In this study we evaluated the utility of quality in use over a software implementation called "ITE CHECK ONE" that automated that process. In the evaluation we used five utility metrics based on the ISO/IEC 25010 and ISO/IEC 25022 standards;the artifacts used in the evaluation are available in a public link on Zenodo. The results show that the utility of the software reached 90.28% by users. We conclude that the evaluation process answers the research question and reveals characteristics of possible improvements in the evaluated software. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Establishing reliable correspondences is crucial for all registration tasks, including 2D image registration, 3D point cloud registration, and 2D-3D image-to-point cloud registration. However, these tasks are often complicated by challenges such as scale inconsistencies, symmetry, and large deformations, which can lead to ambiguous matches. Previous feature-based and correspondence-based methods typically rely on geometric or semantic features to generate or polish initial potential correspondences. Some methods typically leverage specific geometric priors, such as topological preservation, to devise diverse and innovative strategies tailored to a given enhancement goal, which cannot be exhaustively enumerated. Additionally, many previous approaches rely on a single-step prediction head, which can struggle with local minima in complex matching scenarios. To address these challenges, we introduce an innovative paradigm that leverages a diffusion model in matrix space for robust matching matrix estimation. Our model treats correspondence estimation as a denoising diffusion process in the matching matrix space, gradually refining the intermediate matching matrix to the optimal one. Specifically, we apply the diffusion model in the doubly stochastic matrix space for 3D-3D and 2D-3D registration tasks. In the 2D image registration task, we deploy the diffusion model in a matrix sub-space, where dual-softmax projection regularization is applied. For all three registration tasks, we provide adaptive matching matrix embedding implementations tailored to the specific characteristics of each task while maintaining a consistent"match-to-warp" encoding pattern. Furthermore, we adopt a lightweight design for the denoising module. In inference, once points or image features are extracted and fixed, this module performs multi-step denoising predictions through reverse sampling.
