Improved Belief Propagation Decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar Codes with Bit-Freezing

Though belief propagation bit-flip(BPBF)decoding improves the error correction performance of polar codes,it uses the exhaustive flips method to achieve the error correction performance of CA-SCL decoding,thus resulting in high decoding complexity and *** alleviate this issue,we incorporate the LDPC-CRC-Polar coding scheme with BPBF and propose an improved belief propagation decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar codes with bit-freezing(LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz).The proposed LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz employs the LDPC code to ensure the reliability of the flipping set,i.e.,critical set(CS),and dynamically update *** modified CS is further utilized for the identification of error-prone *** proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz obtains remarkable error correction performance and is comparable to that of the CA-SCL(L=16)decoder under medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)*** gains up to 1.2dB and 0.9dB at a fixed BLER=10-4compared with BP and BPBF(CS-1),*** addition,the proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz has lower decoding latency compared with CA-SCL and BPBF,i.e.,it is 15 times faster than CA-SCL(L=16)at high SNR regions.

VulDetectBench: Evaluating the Deep Capability of Vulnerability Detection with Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have training corpora containing large amounts of program code, greatly improving the model’s code comprehension and generation capabilities. However, sound comprehensive research on detecting program vulnerabilities, a more specific task related to code, and evaluating the performance of LLMs in this more specialized scenario is still lacking. To address common challenges in vulnerability analysis, our study introduces a new benchmark, VulDetectBench, specifically designed to assess the vulnerability detection capabilities of LLMs. The benchmark comprehensively evaluates LLM’s ability to identify, classify, and locate vulnerabilities through five tasks of increasing difficulty. We evaluate the performance of 17 models (both open- and closed-source) and find that while existing models can achieve over 80% accuracy on tasks related to vulnerability identification and classification, they still fall short on specific, more detailed vulnerability analysis tasks, with less than 30% accuracy, making it difficult to provide valuable auxiliary information for professional vulnerability mining. Our benchmark effectively evaluates the capabilities of various LLMs at different levels in the specific task of vulnerability detection, providing a foundation for future research and improvements in this critical area of code security. Recent estimates indicate that the U.S. Department of Defense spends over $20 billion USD annually on corrosion-related maintenance. This expenditure is accompanied by a substantial loss in asset readiness, ranging from 10% to 30%. Moreover, the global costs associated with corrosion damage have been estimated at an astonishing $2.5 trillion USD per year, or approximately 3.4% of global GDP in 2016. This project aims to describe how quantum computers might be leveraged to fundamentally change the way material-environment interactions are modeled for material discovery, selection, and design. This project also seeks to understand the plausibility and utility of replacing portions of classical computing workflows with algorithms optimized for quantum computing hardware. The utility of quantum computers is explored through the lens of two industrially relevant problems: (1) characterizing magnesium alloy corrosion properties in aqueous environments and (2) identifying stable niobium-rich alloys with corrosion resistance at temperatures above 1500K. This paper presents an end-to-end analysis of the complexity of both classical and quantum algorithms used in application workflows. Resource estimates are produced using a custom software package, pyLIQTR, based on the qubitized Quantum Phase Estimation (QPE) algorithm. Estimates for the two aforementioned applications show that industrially-relevant computational models that have the potential to deliver commercial utility require quantum computers with thousands to hundreds of thousands of logical qubits and the ability to execute 1013 to 1019 T-gates. Self-supervised learning enables networks to learn discriminative features from massive data itself. Most state-of-the-art methods maximize the similarity between two augmentations of one image based on contrastive learning. By utilizing the consistency of two augmentations, the burden of manual annotations can be freed. Contrastive learning exploits instance-level information to learn robust features. However, the learned information is probably confined to different views of the same instance. In this paper, we attempt to leverage the similarity between two distinct images to boost representation in self-supervised learning. In contrast to instance-level information, the similarity between two distinct images may provide more useful information. Besides, we analyze the relation between similarity loss and feature-level cross-entropy loss. These two losses are essential for most deep learning methods. However, the relation between these two losses is not clear. Similarity loss helps obtain instance-level representation, while feature-level cross-entropy loss helps mine the similarity between two distinct images. Emerging reconfigurable metasurfaces offer various possibilities in programmatically manipulating electromagnetic waves across spatial, spectral, and temporal domains, showcasing great potential for enhancing terahertz applications. However, they are hindered by limited tunability, particularly evident in relatively small phase tuning over 270o, due to the design constraints with time-intensive forward design methodologies. Here, we demonstrate a multi-bit programmable metasurface capable of terahertz beam steering, facilitated by a developed physics-informed inverse design (PIID) approach. Through integrating a modified coupled mode theory (MCMT) into residual neural networks, our PIID algorithm not only significantly increases the design accuracy compared to conventional neural networks but also elucidates the intricate physical relations between the geometry and the modes. Without decreasing the reflection intensity, our method achieves the enhanced phase tuning as large as 300o. Additionally, we experimentally validate the inverse designed programmable beam steering metasurface, which is adaptable across 1-bit, 2-bit, and tri-state coding schemes, yielding a deflection angle up to 68o and broadened steering coverage. Our demonstration provides a promising pathway for rapidly exploring advanced metasurface devices, with potentially great impact on communication and imaging technologies. © 2024, CC0.

Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.

We consider the problem of choosing a subset of proposed road network upgrades to implement within a fixed budget in order to optimize the benefit in terms of vehicle hours travelled (VHT), and show how to render the solution of this problem more tractable by reducing the number of traffic assignment problems that must be solved. This technique is extended to develop a heuristic algorithm for finding a schedule of road upgrades over a planning period that maximizes the net present value of the resulting VHT reductions. Accurate prediction of potential association patterns is becoming a routine and essential method for detecting, analyzing, and controlling diseases. However, the complexity of biological networks poses significant challenges to computational methods between micro-ribonucleic acids and diseases. In this work, we propose a flexible multi-view gate information bottleneck-driven prediction model for complex disease-related micro-ribonucleic acid prediction. Our proposed model can reduce noise and redundant information from complex biological networks between different scale representations via the information bottleneck mechanism, and then enhances the robustness and generalization performance. Unlike other computational methods, we design the gate variational information bottleneck via a shrinking and an enlarging gate mechanism for multi-view different-order feature learning. The gate variational information bottleneck fuses the shared similarity and the view-specific embedding to obtain discriminative representation, and then eliminates redundant information and enhances task-relevant patterns. Next, the information bottleneck-based model is parameterized by a gate variational autoencoder and the reparameterization trick. Extensive experiments on different genomic datasets show the superior performance of our model compared to baselines, and the proposed model could effectively support the validation of complex disease-related micro-ribonucleic acids. It also shows that the model performance can be effectively improved by multi-view embedding learning and gate variational information bottleneck. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

We present an efficient, accurate, and comprehensive analysis framework for generic, multi-port nonlinear parametric circuits, in the presence of dissipation from lossy circuit components, based on "quantum-adapted" X-parameters. We apply this method to Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (JTWPAs) - a key component in superconducting and spin qubit quantum computing architectures - which are challenging to model accurately due to their thousands of linear and nonlinear circuit components. X-parameters are generated from a harmonic balance solution of the classical nonlinear circuit and then mapped to the field ladder operator basis, so that the energy associated with each of the multiple interacting modes corresponds to photon occupancy, rather than classical power waves. Explicit relations for the quantum efficiency of a generic, multi-port, multi-frequency parametric circuit are presented and evaluated for two distinct JTWPA designs. The gain and quantum efficiency are consistent with those obtained from Fourier analysis of time-domain solutions, but with enhanced accuracy, speed, and the ability to include real-world impairments, statistical variations, parasitic effects, and impedance mismatches (in- and out-of-band) seamlessly.
