High fan-out requests are prevalent in systems employing multi-tier architectures. These requests are divided into several sub-requests for parallel processing. However, a high fan-out request must await all sub-requests to be completed before returning, but the processing times of sub-requests are unpredictable due to their differences in characteristics, such as data volume and data popularity. Meanwhile, existing SSD-based caches struggle to adjust request processing speeds to ensure timely handling. As a result, some sub-requests are delayed, affecting the overall latency and causing long tail latency *** paper proposes RSCache, a tail latency-friendly cache based on NVMe SSDs. RSCache combines the NVMe Weighted Round-robin (WRR) arbitration mechanism with a priority-based scheduling mechanism to enable differentiated request processing. We propose a fan-out size-based priority assignment strategy along with a latency-aware sub-request sorting method. They collaborate to prioritize sub-requests according to their impacts on tail latency and schedule them to NVMe priority queues with various processing speeds, effectively reducing the processing time variations among sub-requests. In addition, we balance the load across queues to avoid congestion with a novel feedback mechanism. We implement the prototype of RSCache based on SPDK. Our experiments demonstrate that RSCache reduces tail latency by up to 40% and improves throughput by two times compared to state-of-the-art SSD-based cache designs.

Training graph neural networks (GNNs) for graph representation has received increasing concerns due to its outstanding performance in the link prediction and node classification tasks, but it incurs much time and storage for tackling large-scale graphs. To alleviate this issue, graph condensation has been emerged to condense the large graph into a small but highly-informative graph, while achieving comparable performance of GNNs trained on the small graph and large graph. However, existing works mainly focus on the gradient or distribution matching under GNN training trajectories to condense simple link structures, while overlooking the structure matching for condensing signed graph that exists conflict links and structural balance among nodes. To bridge this gap, we propose a novel Structure Balance and Gradient Matching-Based Signed Graph Condensation (SGSGC) method for condensing signed graph with node attributes, conflict links and structural balance into informative smaller ones. Specifically, we first propose a structure-balanced matching to match the structural balance between the original and condensed signed graph, and then combine it with the gradient matching to condense signed graph for the link sign prediction task, while preserving both conflicting link structures and node attributes. Moreover, we use the feature smoothing and the graph sparsification technique to improve the robustness for the GNN training, respectively. Finally, a bi-level optimization technique is proposed to simultaneously find the optimal node attributes and conflict structure of the condensed graph. Experiments on six datasets demonstrate that SGSGC achieves excellent performance. On Epinions, 94% test accuracy of training on the original signed graph, while reducing their graph size by 99.95% - 99.99%, and there exist 2.24% - 6.26% accuracy improvements for link sign prediction compared to the state-of-the-arts. Heart failure occurs when the heart's lower cham-bers (ventricles) weaken and can't pump blood effectively. The heart contains 2 ventricles that are left and right. When left ventricular failure occurs, it causes shortness of breath and fatigue, and when right ventricular failure occurs, it causes peripheral and abdominal fluid accumulation. Heart failure is a disorder in breathing and oxygen supply to the whole body. As we know, Heart is responsible for circulating blood all over the body parts. When it stops pumping, blood can no longer circulate effectively causing fluid to build up in the lungs causing difficulty in breathing and in the legs, causing swelling. The fluid buildup can cause shortness of breath and swelling of the legs and feet. As a result, fluctuation in breathing takes place and, in the end, the patient dies. This study investigates the use of machine learning tools, like k-Nearest Neighbors, Decision Trees, Naïve Bayes, and Random Forests, to identify heart failure. We are proposing a model for Heart Failure Prediction using a machine learning algorithm and a dataset to determine the performance in terms of accuracy. As a result, the Random Forest classifier along with the SMOTE operator provides the highest accuracy of 91.12%, precision of 87.88%, recall of 95.39%, and F1 measure of 91.48% among the models considered. This research is a very important contribution to healthcare for effective predictions of this disease, as the number of patients is increasing day by day. The results hold significance for future modifications too in medical diagnostics and helping material for more accurate detection methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.

The particular characteristics of deaf-mutes make them more likely to have mental health problems. Due to their particular way of communication, it is more difficult for them to deal with mental health problems than ordinary people. Nowadays, those psychologists who are good at sign language are in short supply, and remote assistance cannot achieve satisfactory results. Therefore, a library of virtual emotional gestures based on electroencephalogram (EEG) was established and a prototype system for mental health examination of deaf-mutes was proposed, which help deaf-mutes identify their psychological problems in time and assist medical staff to examine the psychological problems encountered by deaf-mutes. In addition, the virtual library of emotional gestures is established with the assistance of the chief physician from a 3A hospital in Henan Province. More importantly, the later experiments demonstrate the applicability of this virtual system. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The prediction of solar storms from real-time satellites data is an essential to protect various aviation, power, and communication infrastructures. For this reason, current research interest is focusing on creating systems that can predict solar fare accurately. This paper combers Gramian Angular Fields (GAF) images and Markov Transition Field (MTF) images that have been generated by converting pre-flare Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data from 2010 to 2016. After that, the deep learning neural network for the solar flare production platform accepts both MTF and GAF images as input to generate the predictions. Furthermore, this paper;investigated using MTF and GAF images spritely as input to the solar flare production platform. After that, the results of MTF and GAF images were compared using various prediction verification measures. © 2022 IEEE.

Supervised methods on 3D medical image segmentation need large amounts of annotated data, but annotating is time-consuming. Also, existing 3D segmentation methods capture more global structural information but overlook local detailed features, which negatively impacts the segmentation of small tissues. In this paper, we propose a novel weakly-supervised 2D-3D Feature Co-Embedding Network (2D-3D CoENet) that includes 2D and 3D encoding layers, simultaneously extracting 2D local detailed and 3D global structural features. To reduce annotation costs, we use fewer labeled slices as ground truth and pseudo-labels are generated by 2D-3D CoENet for other slices. Additionally, multi-view learning is introduced to capture more 2D local detailed information, and a Multi-view Semantic Consistency loss (MSC loss) is proposed to constrain features from multiple perspectives. To further enhance the local detailed texture features, we propose an Edge Enhancement Module (EEM) in the 3D segmentation network to enhance the edge detail features. Our experimental results on the SKI10 dataset and OAI ZIB dataset demonstrate that our method outperforms the SOTA weakly-supervised segmentation methods. Moreover, our approach achieves results that are comparable to the fully-supervised upper bound results. © 2024 IEEE.

Sliced Maximal Information Coefficient: A Training-Free Approach for Image Quality Assessment Enhancement

Full-reference image quality assessment (FR-IQA) models generally operate by measuring the visual differences between a degraded image and its reference. However, existing FR-IQA models including both the classical ones (e.g., PSNR and SSIM) and deep-learning based measures (e.g., LPIPS and DISTS) still exhibit limitations in capturing the full perception characteristics of the human visual system (HVS). In this paper, instead of designing a new FR-IQA measure, we aim to explore a generalized human visual attention estimation strategy to mimic the process of human quality rating and enhance existing IQA models. In particular, we model human attention generation by measuring the statistical dependency between the degraded image and the reference image. The dependency is captured in a training-free manner by our proposed sliced maximal information coefficient and exhibits surprising generalization in different IQA measures. Experimental results verify the performance of existing IQA models can be consistently improved when our attention module is incorporated. The source code is available at https://***/KANGX99/SMIC. Multi-View People Detection in Large Scenes via Supervised View-Wise Contribution Weighting

Recent deep learning-based multi-view people detection (MVD) methods have shown promising results on existing datasets. However, current methods are mainly trained and evaluated on small, single scenes with a limited number of multi-view frames and fixed camera views. As a result, these methods may not be practical for detecting people in larger, more complex scenes with severe occlusions and camera calibration errors. This paper focuses on improving multi-view people detection by developing a supervised view-wise contribution weighting approach that better fuses multi-camera information under large scenes. Besides, a large synthetic dataset is adopted to enhance the model’s generalization ability and enable more practical evaluation and comparison. The model’s performance on new testing scenes is further improved with a simple domain adaptation technique. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in achieving promising cross-scene multi-view people detection performance.
