This paper focuses on a specific family of classifiers called nonparallel support vector classifiers (NPSVCs). Different from typical classifiers, the training of an NPSVC involves the minimization of multiple objectives, resulting in the potential concerns of feature suboptimality and class dependency. Consequently, no effective learning scheme has been established to improve NPSVCs’ performance through representation learning, especially deep learning. To break this bottleneck, we develop NPSVC++ based on multi-objective optimization, enabling the end-to-end learning of NPSVC and its features. By pursuing Pareto optimality, NPSVC++ theoretically ensures feature optimality across classes, hence effectively overcoming the two issues above. A general learning procedure via duality optimization is proposed, based on which we provide two applicable instances, K-NPSVC++ and D-NPSVC++. The experiments show their superiority over the existing methods and verify the efficacy of NPSVC++. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Fair clustering problems have been paid lots of attention recently. In this paper, we study the k-Center problem under the group fairness and data summarization fairness constraints, denoted as Group Fair k-Center (GFkC) and Data Summarization Fair k-Center (DSFkC), respectively, in the massively parallel computational (MPC) distributed model. The previous best results for the above two problems in the MPC model are a 9-approximation with violation 7 (WWW 2022) and a (17 + ∊)-approximation without fairness violation (ICML 2020), respectively. In this paper, we obtain a (3 + ∊)- approximation with violation 1 for the GFkC problem in the MPC model, which is almost as accurate as the best known approximation ratio 3 with violation 1 for the sequential algorithm of the GFkC problem. Moreover, for the DSFkC problem in the MPC model, we obtain a (4 + ∊)-approximation without fairness violation, which is very close to the best known approximation ratio 3 for the sequential algorithm of the DSFkC problem. Empirical experiments show that our distributed algorithms perform better than existing state-of-the-art distributed methods for the above two problems. © 2024 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems.

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have been widely applied in video object recognition, yet tasks of varying complexity are often required to pass through the entire model, leading to inference redundancy for simpler tasks. By inserting exit branches at intermediate layers of the network, tasks that meet exit criteria can terminate early, reducing inference computation overhead and latency without significantly compromising accuracy. However, exit branches themselves introduce additional computational load, making it essential to strategically determine exit insertion points. The exit rules used in existing exit setting methods require tasks to sequentially attempt exits at each point, neglecting the correlation between adjacent video frames and resulting in numerous unnecessary exit attempts. To address this issue, we propose an exit rule based on the correlation between adjacent video frames, allowing video inference tasks to skip certain unsuitable exits. Building on this rule, we analyze the expected inference overhead under different exit settings and introduce an efficient estimation method. Finally, we present a high-efficiency exit setting method based on the ant colony optimization algorithm. Experimental results confirm that the proposed exit rule and setting method significantly reduce computational cost and inference latency.

Improving the accuracy of semantic segmentation for remote sensing images (RSIs) is crucial for the geoscientific research and applications. However, existing models tend to focus too much on the subject information for semantic objects, but less on the global-local boundary information of images. To tackle this issue, we introduce a novel approach named the Boundary Enhanced Network (BENet), which applies synchronized attention to both global and local aspects of images. Specifically, the proposed method utilizes the Global-Local Boundary Fusion module (GLBF) to aggregate the boundary information of the objects from a high-dimensional feature perspective. To adapt to the multi-scale characteristics of RSIs, GLBF is embed hierarchically to maintain boundary details across different stages. Besides, a Feature Enhancement Module (FEM) is devised with sequentially DEConv and Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) blocks to refine the features from decoder. The experiments on the ISPRS Vaihingen and Potsdam datasets showed that BENet outperforms mainstream methodology, OA, mIoU and mF1 metrics were all significantly elevated. © 2024 SPIE.

With the advancements of IoT devices, many smart applications start to rule this era. In particular, smart cities has been adapted and realized by many countries around the world. In smart cities, vas amount of data is generated at every second. This vast data need a transmission medium which could be wireless standard. However, security is the main concern in such applications since the smart transmission always binds with anomalies. The existing anomaly detection systems need improvement in accuracy due to inefficient feature extraction and selection procedure. This paper proposes an accurate anomaly detection technique that built upon deep learning approach. We proposed a Combined Deep Q-Learning (CDQL) algorithm for anomaly detection. Priory, optimal features are selected by using Spider Monkey Optimizer (SMO). With the optimal features, CDQL detects anomalies accurately. In addition, the CDQL algorithm learns the environment in order to monitor the network data continuously. This continuous monitoring and optimum features helps in accuracy improvement up to 98%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The research on applications for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) including the investigation of submerged resources, gathering oceanographic data, conducting operational surveillance, and prevention from natural disasters is rapidly increasing. Traditional wireless sensor networks (TWSNs) are distinct from UWSNs. Routing protocols of TWSNs are also distinct from UWSNs routing protocols in terms of energy efficiency. Most of routing protocols have been developed to extract data from the ocean floor to the surface of waters. There are many challenges for indigenous designing of an efficient routing protocol for UWSNs, such as, design of reliable path for forwarding communicating data packets, managing the movement of nodes, configuration of sensor nodes, removing void communicating nodes and increasing the power efficiency of the system. This research focuses on designing a novel Machine learning-based multi-path reliable and energy-efficient routing protocol (M2RE2RP) for UWSNs. It will select an efficient path among the existing communication paths used by sensor nodes, which will ultimately increase the lifespan of the network. The simulation experiment results dictate that the proposed routing model M2RE2RP achieves better performance in terms of network throughput, end-to-end latency, total energy consumption and network lifetime. © 2023 IEEE.

The risks discussed in this document are related to smart printers/ fax/ photocopiers/ or e-mail-enabled smart devices, also known as "document centers,". These devices can be purchased outright or rented every month. When an item reaches its end of life, it is either donated to a non-profit organization or returned to the manufacturer (OEM) or supplier at the end of a lease arrangement. These network-interconnected devices have an inherent susceptibility that most IT operations teams or information security professionals are unaware of. This effort will raise awareness of the dangers of losing a company's data. This discussion will focus on reported vulnerabilities, previous discussions, and given the author's view on the potential danger. Create instructions for potential users on how to use and disassemble these devices safely to prevent losing sensitive data. Lastly, the technological structure of two potential attack vectors against a document center of an organization will be demonstrated in this study. The study was conducted in government as well as the private sector, medium-sized enterprises (300 employees of each entity) settings, outside of normal business hours, with special authorizations and engagement, limiting the scope to a minimal set of devices. © 2023 IEEE.

In gamma ray imaging for nuclear medicine, coded aperture is used to improve sensitivity. one of the main reconstructing methods is inverse filtering (deconvolution), where the recorded image is cross-correlated with periodic inverse filter of coded array. The reconstruction is free of coding noise for arbitrary array. However, amplification of quantum noise affect the reconstructed image. Although it is improved by Wiener filtering, the major problem is small terms in the spectral distribution of coded masks. Statistically and experimentally pinhole arrays have at least one term which is zero, resulting unacceptably noisy reconstruction. In our previous research we presented new approach of variable coded aperture (VCA) design for far and near field imaging applications [1-4]. The imaging system is based on time multiplexing method using variable multi pinhole array. The unique variable design enables to overcome the spatial frequencies cutoff and small terms in the Fourier transform exists in static multi pinhole array. The overall pinholes positions are designed to avoid spatial frequencies loss. However, traces of duplications can still be detected in reconstruction using Wiener filtering. Furthermore, since coded aperture blocks most of the photons that enter the detector, the dynamic range of the image is limited, thus leading to low contrast image and inadequate colors gamut. © 2023 IEEE.

Observation points classifier ensemble for high-dimensional imbalanced classification

In this paper,an Observation Points Classifier Ensemble(OPCE)algorithm is proposed to deal with High-Dimensional Imbalanced Classification(HDIC)problems based on data processed using the Multi-Dimensional Scaling(MDS)feature extraction ***,dimensionality of the original imbalanced data is reduced using MDS so that distances between any two different samples are preserved as well as ***,a novel OPCE algorithm is applied to classify imbalanced samples by placing optimised observation points in a low-dimensional data ***,optimization of the observation point mappings is carried out to obtain a reliable assessment of the unknown *** experiments have been conducted to evaluate the feasibility,rationality,and effectiveness of the proposed OPCE algorithm using seven benchmark HDIC data *** results show that(1)the OPCE algorithm can be trained faster on low-dimensional imbalanced data than on high-dimensional data;(2)the OPCE algorithm can correctly identify samples as the number of optimised observation points is increased;and(3)statistical analysis reveals that OPCE yields better HDIC performances on the selected data sets in comparison with eight other HDIC *** demonstrates that OPCE is a viable algorithm to deal with HDIC problems.
