With the ever growing complexity of hardware designs, their functional verification has become quite a challenge. Despite other techniques like emulation and formal verification methods, simulation continues to be the most common and primary technique to functionally verify the hardware design written in Verilog. Due to the limited computational resources, exhaustive testing of the present-age complex hardware designs is not possible. This makes the selection of vectors very important. However, manual selection of test vectors has often resulted in biased testing and their is always a risk of missing some important corner case. Random testing may solve this problem but manual development of random test generation is a time consuming task. The main contribution of this paper is to facilitate the testbench development task as it presents an automatic random test bench generator tool, VerTGen, for Verilog models. VerTGen has a user friendly GUI and supports all the major probability distributions and can be used to create test benches for both combinational and sequential circuits. For illustration, the paper presents the test bench creation process of a shift register using VerTGen.

Over the last two decades, motor drives comprising of power electronic converters and advanced electric machines have deeply penetrated into the transportation sector, where new technologies are explored, in order to electrify various modes of transportation systems. Electric transportation puts much greater demand on power electronics than conventional fossil fuel powered automobiles. In many cases (e.g., hybrid internal combustion/electric drive vehicles), optimized power electronics suites are essential. Significant advances in power electronics and motor drives have helped reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs). This paper reviews on evolution and advancements of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems for EVs. The paper also discusses on multiphase PMSMs and multi-motor drive systems which can be revolutionized for future electric transportation applications.

This paper is focused on the analysis and design of the capacitive plates of the capacitive wireless power transfer system. The coupling structure resembles a loosely coupled capacitor. The electric field coupling interface is the most vital part of the wireless technology. The coupling interface determines the capacitance of the coupling capacitors, maximum power transfer, frequency and overall efficiency of the system. The paper is dedicated to understand the behaviour of the system with respect to the structural construction, frequency of operation and factors that affect the power transfer of the system. The various arrangements and configurations of the capacitive power transfer (CPT) are discussed. The important factors affects the value of coupling capacitance are discussed. Based on results obtained from the analysis, a design guide line is laid out for the construction of the coupling capacitors. The design guidelines addresses critical issues such as operational voltage, temperature stability and selection of the dielectric material. The construction of the system is simple, rugged and inexpensive, which makes it a great contender among the other wireless technology.

The paper outlines a capacitive power transfer (CPT) system for higher power applications. The paper summarizes the operating principle, power electronics requirement and modeling of a basic CPT system. The high frequency converter is the drive force of the contactless system. The high frequency converters found in literature are discussed with their advantages and their drawbacks. With the knowledge of the converters used, an existing topology is modified to fit the capacitive interface of the capacitive power transfer system. The modified LLC resonant converters has several advantages over the traditional converters used for contactless CPT .The converter has a very high power density and can be used for very high power applications. One of the greatest advantages the modified LLC resonant converter is the ability to work off resonance and the inherent ability to buck or boost as per its gain plot. The converter exhibits efficiencies greater than 90%. The design of the proposed topology along with its advantages over the existing topologies for small distance applications are listed.

This paper presents a performance comparison study between the proposed continuous- and discontinuous-hybrid-PWM (C-HPWM, D-HPWM) based techniques used for neutral point clamped (NPC) 3-level inverter. The H-PWM strategy uses both the advantages of carrier and space vector based PWM strategies. The duty cycles are generated using the carrier based strategy to reduce the computational complexity of the system and redundant vector states are used to keep the two DC-link capacitor voltages balanced. Detailed comparison studies are carried out in Matlab/ Simulink® and PLECS to shows the conduction and switching loss distribution with change in modulation index for IGBT and their antiparallel diodes, NPC diode with both control strategies. A 54.0 kW surface PMSM is used for this simulation studies. Moreover, the total inverter loss and torque ripples are also compared. Detailed experimental performances are also carried out with a scaled down prototype with a 6.0 kW surface PMSM, NPC inverter and real time emulator Dspace, to show the capacitor voltage deviation with both control strategies. © 2015 IEEE.

A modified virtual space vector based DC-link voltage balancing strategy is proposed in this paper. The summation of the three phase currents for the virtual vector needs not to be zero and it also keeps the two capacitor voltages balanced over a wider range of load variations. The duty cycles for all the power switches are also derived in this paper. Due to the reduced use of medium voltage vectors the proposed control strategy can considerably decrease the neutral point voltage fluctuation for lower power factor based loads as well. Detailed simulation and experimental studies are also carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed system with a DC-link voltage balancing strategy. Voltage and current harmonic distortions are also presented with change in modulation index. A Dspace® based real time operating system is used experimental validation with a 6.0 kW surface PMSM. © 2015 IEEE.

Dauphin is a new statistical signal processing language designed for easier formulation of detection, classification and estimation algorithms. This paper demonstrates the ease of developing signal processing algorithms in Dauphin. We illustrate this by providing exemplar code for two classifiers: Bayesian and k-means, and for an estimator: the Kalman filter. In all cases, and especially the last named, the code provides a more conceptually defined approach to these problems than other languages such as Matlab. Some Dauphin features under development are also highlighted, for instance a infinite list construct called streams, which is designed to be used as a natural representation of random processes.

The main quest for cloud stakeholders is to find an optimal deployment architecture for cloud applications that maximizes availability, minimizes cost, and addresses portability and scalability. Unfortunately, the lack of a unified definition and adequate modeling language and methodologies that address the cloud domain specific characteristics makes architecting efficient cloud applications a daunting task. This paper introduces Stratus ML: a technology agnostic integrated modeling framework for cloud applications. Stratus ML provides an intuitive user interface that allows the cloud stakeholders (i.e., providers, developers, administrators, and financial decision makers) to define their application services, configure them, specify the applications' behaviour at runtime through a set of adaptation rules, and estimate cost under diverse cloud platforms and configurations. Moreover, through a set of model transformation templates, Stratus ML maintains consistency between the various artifacts of cloud applications. This paper presents Stratus ML and illustrates its usefulness and practical applicability from different stakeholder perspectives. A demo video, usage scenario and other relevant information can be found at the Stratus ML webpage.
