This paper proposes a comprehensive methodology for Field-Oriented Control (FOC) with parameter variation analysis for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSM). The modeling approach for an IPMSM is first presented, followed by a step-by-step procedure for designing a vector-controlled strategy. The formulation is based on a dq-rotating reference frame aligned with the rotor shaft position. A key distinction of this methodology from traditional approaches is that the current controller is designed in the time domain based on desired time constants, while the speed control is formulated within a frequency response domain framework. The proposed hybrid approach enables accurate tuning of the Proportional-Integrator (PI) controllers for both current and speed control loops. Additionally, a parameter variation analysis is conducted to enhance the proposed methodology. The validity region for the design procedure is presented, ensuring that for any wide speed variation of the machine, loop gains are properly tuned. One of the main advantages of the proposed methodology is that it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate technique for implementing IPMSM drive systems. Results from a Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HIL) setup with an external microcontroller are presented. The comprehensive design approach is validated under two different IPMSM parameter sets, demonstrating its effectiveness. © 2013 IEEE.

Transformers in Small Object Detection: A Benchmark and Survey of State-of-the-Art

Transformers have rapidly gained popularity in computer vision, especially in the field of object recognition and detection. Upon examining the outcomes of state-of-the-art object detection methods, we noticed that transformers consistently outperformed well-established CNN-based detectors in almost every video or image dataset. While transformer-based approaches remain at the forefront of small object detection (SOD) techniques, this paper aims to explore the performance benefits offered by such extensive networks and identify potential reasons for their SOD superiority. Small objects have been identified as one of the most challenging object types in detection frameworks due to their low visibility. We aim to investigate potential strategies that could enhance transformers’ performance in SOD. This survey presents a taxonomy of over 60 research studies on developed transformers for the task of SOD, spanning the years 2020 to 2023. These studies encompass a variety of detection applications, including small object detection in generic images, aerial images, medical images, active millimeter images, underwater images, and videos. We also compile and present a list of 12 large-scale datasets suitable for SOD that were overlooked in previous studies and compare the performance of the reviewed studies using popular metrics such as mean Average Precision (mAP), Frames Per Second (FPS), number of parameters, and more. Keypoints used for image matching often include an estimate of the feature scale and orientation. While recent work has demonstrated the advantages of using feature scales and orientations for relative pose estimation, relatively little work has considered their use for absolute pose estimation. We introduce minimal solutions for absolute pose from two oriented feature correspondences in the general case, or one scaled and oriented correspondence given a known vertical direction. Nowadays, assuming a known direction is not particularly restrictive as modern consumer devices, such as smartphones or drones, are equipped with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) that provide the gravity direction by default. Compared to traditional absolute pose methods requiring three point correspondences, our solvers need a smaller minimal sample, reducing the cost and complexity of robust estimation. Evaluations on large-scale and public real datasets demonstrate the advantage of our methods for fast and accurate localization in challenging conditions. To succeed with the development of modern and complex systems (e.g., aircrafts or production systems), organizations must have the agility to adapt faster to constantly evolving requirements in order to deliver more reliable and optimized solutions that can be adapted to the needs and environments of their stakeholders including users, customers, suppliers, and partners. However, stakeholders do not have sufficiently explicit and systematic support for global decision making, considering the vast decision space and complex inter-relationships. This decision space is characterized by increasing yet inadequately represented variability and the uncertainty of the impact of decisions on stakeholders and the solution space. This leads to an ad-hoc decision making process that is slow, error-prone, and often favors local knowledge over global, organization-wide objectives. As a result, one team's design decisions may impose too restrictive requirements on another team. In this paper, we evaluate our understanding of global decision making in the context of complex system development based on a conceptual model which explicitly represents and manages decision spaces including variability and impacts. We have conducted our evaluation by means of an exploratory case study where we interviewed domain experts with an average of 20 years of experience in complex system industries and report the key findings and remaining challenges. In the future, we aim at providing explicit and systematic tool-supported approaches for global decision making support for complex systems.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the correlation between the regional safety index, urban space, and time series data, to analyze the causes of vulnerable areas by subdividing the regional safety index, and to derive solutions. Public data was used for analysis, and spatial data such as police stations, security bells, and security facilities, and time-series and spatial composite data such as the number of police reports by time zone and floating population were used. In addition, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, the city to be analyzed, is a large city with a population of over 1 million. It is located near Seoul and has a very high floating population as there are various landmarks, such as Samsung Electronics headquarters and Suwon Hwaseong, in the city. Therefore, it is an excellent city to analyze multiple characteristics that are difficult to obtain in other cities. To obtain various insights, we analyzed multiple methods, and in particular, techniques such as exploratory data analysis, visualization analysis, and machine learning were used.

Modern navigation applications are confronting the challenge of path identification and prediction. Because of the inherent noisiness of measurement techniques, positional data often contains errors. Over time, when attempting to predict future positions, these errors can compound, causing drift in the target's path. Filtering or regression techniques can use periodic high-fidelity measurements, like those from GPS sensors, to correct positional data and reduce historic errors. These techniques have been much less effective in specialized environments where GPS is intermittent or denied. At the same time, the development of semi- and fully-autonomous systems has increased the need for accurate predictive navigation. To address this problem, previous methods were proposed for repairing tracking data using causality-aware machine learning (ML). It combined a long short-term memory (LSTM) network that predicted target paths with the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) which identified and evaluated counterfactual paths. Here te authors expand on that work by improving the simulated data used to train and test the system, expanding the GA by adding additional first principles-based objective functions, improving upon the LSTM implementation, and utilizing Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) pre-processing. System testing is conducted on Matlab-generated navigation scenarios, and results are compared to both EKF correction and spline interpolation. The proposed counterfactual track repair (CTR) tool produces paths with less repeatability than traditional approaches. However, it is shown to consistently generate more realistic path corrections, lower error in predictions based on its corrected paths, and is highly configurable, demonstrating the value and utility of this approach.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) enables communication among automation systems, machinery, and sensors in an industrial setting. To optimize critical industrial operations, a substantial volume of data concerning diverse in-factory activities and automation services is generated by IoT devices and sensors. This data is subsequently transferred to distant processing systems for analysis and decision-making. Nevertheless, a substantial latency in data transmission or any abnormality in the generated data may result in delayed or erroneous decisions, consequently impacting the efficacy of essential industrial systems. To address these challenges, we established an intelligent network architecture utilizing software-defined networking that achieves tactile latencies efficiently while handling industrial data traffic in an energy-efficient manner. To address the initial challenge, the suggested architecture utilizes the Self-Organized Maps approach to distinguish between industrial traffic requiring tactile latencies and non-tactile traffic. We utilize a binary tree-based flow table mapping method to enhance flow table matching and decrease lookup times. To address the second challenge, we employ the Support Vector Machine technique to identify anomalies in real-time industrial data traffic. The Hadoop system and Mininet emulator are utilized to evaluate the proposed architecture using the UNSW dataset. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested solution in providing energy-efficient tactile assurances and identifying anomalies in traffic. © 2014 IEEE.

This study presents the effects of Tx./Rx. pointing errors on the performance efficiency of local area optical wireless communication networks. The received signal power and max Q factor are measured in the presence of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) bias current and modulation current at maximum propagation distance for the wireless network. The signal is enhanced with increasing of bias and modulation peak currents of the VCSEL device. The optimum received power and max. Q factor is also examined at Tx./Rx. the pointing error of 0.1 mrad and propagation reach of 5 km at available bit rates transmission of 10 Gb/s. © 2021 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

Stroke is a dangerous health issue that happens when bleeding valves in the brain get damaged. and blood supply to the brain is cut off. As a result of these factors, numerous body parts may cease to function. Stroke is currently a significant risk factor for mortality, as per World Health Organization (WHO). It may be preferable to mitigate the severity of stroke by detecting it early. In recent years, data science has been critical to the growth of research in the medical field. Various machine learning techniques are built employing a patient’s physical and physiological reporting data to forecast the risk of stroke. In this article, we use five machine learning approaches to find the best effective model that can predict the risk of stroke, including Decision Tree (DT), XGBoost, Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM), Random Forest (RF), and K-nearest Neighbors learning. Kaggle was used to collect the dataset. Random forest produces acceptable findings with an accuracy of roughly 96%, which might be included in actual clinical information. The machine learning approach can aid in the prediction of many diseases like a stroke in the early stages. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
