At Crypto'07, Goyal introduced the notion of accountable authority identity-based encryption (A-IBE) in order to mitigate the inherent key escrow problem in identity-based encryption, and proposed two concrete constructions. In an A-IBE system, if the private key generator (PKG) distributes a decryption key or produces an unauthorized decryption box for a user maliciously, it runs the risk of being caught and sued in the court of law with the help of a tracing algorithm. Subsequent efforts focused on constructions of A-IBE schemes with enhanced security. In these A-IBE constructions, the tracing algorithm needs to take a user's decryption key as input. If the user lost his key or is deliberately uncooperative in court, then we cannot implicate the PKG or the user. An interesting open problem left by Goyal et al. at CCS'08 is to consider the possibility of tracing a decryption box using only a public tracing key, or with the assistance of a tracing authority. In this paper, we address this problem positively. We first extend the original model of A-IBE to accommodate public traceability, and then propose an A-IBE scheme in the new model. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed scheme is the first A-IBE with public traceability. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The Partnership for Next Generation-Vehicles Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC) battery model was used to develop a base-line estimation. Within the HPPC is a method to establish an estimated open circuit voltage (VOC) from a linear calculation of internal resistances and currents. The flexibility of the parameterization was tested over a changing temperature range. Algorithms were developed that predict the VOC and state of charge (SOC) based on the battery's temperature, current draw, terminal voltage, and sampling time step; therefore, increasing the accuracy of the battery parameterization estimator (BPE). Three production vehicles with lithium based battery chemistries were used in the study. A least square method is used as in the PNGV battery model to determine initial parameters; an improvement was shown over this base-line by using a non-linear algorithm. The estimates from both algorithms were compared to the measured data as verification.

The proliferation of cloud computing allows scientists to deploy computation and data intensive applications without infrastructure investment, where large generated datasets can be flexibly stored with multiple cloud service providers. Due to the pay-as-you-go model, the total application cost largely depends on the usage of computation, storage and bandwidth resources, and cutting the cost of cloud-based data storage becomes a big concern for deploying scientific applications in the cloud. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that can automatically decide whether a generated dataset should be 1) stored in the current cloud, 2) deleted and re-generated whenever reused or 3) transferred to cheaper cloud service for storage. The algorithm finds the trade-off among computation, storage and bandwidth costs in the cloud, which are three key factors for the cost of storing generated application datasets with multiple cloud service providers. Simulations conducted with popular cloud service providers' pricing models show that the proposed algorithm is highly cost-effective to be utilised in the cloud.

The software Assurance Metrics and Tool Evaluation (SAMATE) project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has organized four Static Analysis Tool Expositions (SATE). SATE is designed to advance research in static analysis tools that find security-relevant defects in source code. Briefly, participating tool makers run their tools on a set of programs. Researchers led by NIST analyze the tool outputs. The results and experiences are reported at a workshop. These expositions have accumulated large amounts of data. This collection allowed for the development and validation of practical metrics in regard to static analysis tool effectiveness and independence. In this paper, we discuss the role of the data in determining which metrics can be derived. Specifically, we detail the three characteristics test data should exhibit and explain why the data we use express each combination of two out of these three properties.

We are interested in the coverage path planning problem with imperfect sensors, within the context of robotics for mine countermeasures. In the studied problem, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) equipped with sonar surveys the bottom of the ocean searching for mines. We use a cellular decomposition to represent the ocean floor by a grid of uniform square cells. The robot scans a fixed number of cells sideways with a varying probability of detection as a function of distance and of seabed type. The goal is to plan a path that achieves the minimal required coverage in each cell while minimizing the total traveled distance and the total number of turns. We propose an off-line hybrid algorithm based on dynamic programming and on a traveling salesman problem reduction. We present experimental results and show that our algorithm's performance is superior to published results in terms of path quality and computational time, which makes it possible to implement the algorithm in an AUV.

The use of virtual cluster for High Performance Computing (HPC) work has a great benefit of hiding the complexity of physical infrastructure while providing a familiar HPC environment for users. Nevertheless, setting up one is still a challenging task for most users. In addition, the ability to span a virtual cluster across a multi-site cloud can even create a great potential for users to harness a much higher processing power from the cloud. In this paper, the development of a multi-site virtual cluster cloud is presented. This is done by providing the cloud infrastructures tailored specifically for virtual cluster deployment along with related utilities such as web-interface monitor and command line tools. To realize this infrastructure, an overlay network is created using Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology to merge every site into a single broadcast domain. Moreover, a Multi-tier VPN network topology is proposed to enhance the communication performance among the multi-site cloud. A smart virtual machine scheduling mechanism is introduced to reduce performance degradation caused by network delays. The experimental results show that the virtual cluster works well with highly parallel task with low communication among task. Thus, this technology can be used to support many classes of important HPC applications.

SaaS (software-as-a-Service) often uses multi-tenancy architecture (MTA) where tenant developers compose their applications online using the components stored in the SaaS database. Tenant applications need to be tested, and combinatorial testing can be used. While numerous combinatorial testing techniques are available, most of them produce static sequences of test configurations and their goal is often to provide sufficient coverage such as 2-way interaction coverage. But the goal of SaaS testing is to identify those compositions that are faulty for tenant applications. This paper proposes an adaptive test configuration generation algorithm AR (Adaptive Reasoning) that can rapidly identify those faulty combinations so that those faulty combinations cannot be selected by tenant developers for composition. The AR algorithm has been evaluated by both simulation and real experimentation using a MTA SaaS sample running on GAE (Google App Engine). Both the simulation and experiment showed show that the AR algorithm can identify those faulty combinations rapidly. Whenever a new component is submitted to the SaaS database, the AR algorithm can be applied so that any faulty interactions with new components can be identified to continue to support future tenant applications.

This paper proposes a new algebraic system, Test Algebra (TA), for identifying faults in combinatorial testing for SaaS (software-as-a-Service) applications. SaaS as a part of cloud computing is a new software delivery model, and mission-critical applications are composed, deployed, and executed in cloud platforms. Testing SaaS applications is a challenging task because new applications need to be tested when they are composed before they can be deployed for execution. Combinatorial testing algorithms can be used to identify faulty configurations and interactions from 2-way all the way to k-way where k is the number of components in the application. The TA defines rules to identify faulty configurations and interactions. Using the rules defined in the TA, a collection of configurations can be tested concurrently in different servers and in any order and the results obtained will be still same due to the algebraic constraints.
