In this paper, route planning of waste collection trucks using R&R (Ruin and Recreate) approach is explored. We assume the trucks are guided by the central depot in selecting the optimal route for waste collection. Heuristic algorithms are simulated to find the optimal routes for the waste management fleet. Through the use of smart dumpsters that can communicate the current level of waste using sensors and communication modules, we aim to reduce the number of trucks used, the total time taken and total distance traveled by the fleet in a day. Our work is based on variations of CVRPTW (Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Window Constraint). The central management system selects the dumpsters, based on their waste levels, in descending order, and dispatches appropriate number of trucks, with path assignments using Ruin and Recreate (R&R) approach of the VRPTW strategy. The municipal authority saves transit time, fuel cost and service time by using our approach, through a simulation of smart waste collection.

Unified modeling Language is being used for modeling of business processes, real-time systems, embedded systems and hybrid systems. In software engineering, there are different techniques for verification of such systems. Model checking is one of the techniques for the automatic verification of software models. Earlier, these model were verified by sequential model checking tools. For very large complex systems, parallel verification can save verification time. DiVinE is a model checking tool for both CPUs and GPUs clusters to perform parallel linear time logic (LTL) verification of systems. In this paper, we propose a parallel verification methodology for UML models using DiVinE tool. We explain this methodology by the case study example of fuel filling machine.

Sustaining open innovation requires better understanding how collaborative efforts of contributors yield collective creativity. One of the significant problems in understanding emergence of collective creativity involves how collectives govern and coordinate the actions of individuals to maximize innovation output. Yet, relatively little is known about desirable organizing processes in open innovation communities. To this end, we examine the impact of governance mechanisms and conflict management styles on collective creativity in open source socioecologies. Systems model of creativity and proxy metrics for measuring potential for collective creativity are utilized to conduct a simulation study of Open Source software socio-ecologies. Findings suggest that decentralized coordination schemes such as emergent selection that are observed in utility communities along with moderate degrees of assertiveness and cooperation for conflict management result in higher incidence of innovation © 2009 IEEE.

Machine understanding is an essential and desirable cognitive ability for advanced software agents. In this article, we elaborate on: (1) yet another advanced feature, i.e., multi-understanding that is more than one understanding of an entity and (2) switchable understanding that is selecting one or more of the alternative understandings resulting in a multi-understanding. The rationale for the need and characteristics of multi-understanding as well as switchable understanding are clarified. software architecture and visual programming languages both share a common goal of abstraction. software architecture tries to present a high level over view of the over all system design. This high level view can be used to increase the security, reusability, and understandability of the overall system. Visual programming languages were introduced to allow a programmer to manipulate visual objects to create programs instead of using only text. These higherlevel languages are an abstraction of information contained in textual languages. This work aims to show the value of using a visual programming language with software architecture documents to produce systems. The marriage of these two technologies can produce a system that is closer to software architecture design as compared to using textual based programming languages. The importance of connectors and the impacts visual programming languages can have on connectors is discussed. The security, understandability, and reusability impacts are studied to understand the benefits visual programming languages can have on translating software architecture into the final product. © 2008 simulation COUNCILS, INC.

RoboSoccer simulation is a complex multiagent system in which agents play the role of soccer players and the main goal is to have a perfect domain for research and investigation on artificial intelligence. This paper intends to propose a new scoring module to select the best point on the goal line to shoot, considering player's position, catching and shooting time difference, and distance to target. Two different approaches have been implemented for this purpose. The first one is a simple decision making policy and the latter one takes advantage of statistical measurement and fuzzy decision making. Results show the superiority of the proposed method performance in over our previous work implemented on Nexus 3D RoboSuccer team of Ferdowsi University. © 2006 IEEE.

Soccer simulation is an effort to motivate researchers to perform artificial and robotic intelligence research; and at the same time put into practice and evaluate the results. The research includes design and implementation of robotic soccer simulation algorithms in a multi-agent environment. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy two-phase approach, based on our previous crisp two-phase mechanism, for the soccer player agent's action selection. To do so, a fuzzy decision making approach was implemented which tells an agent what action to take, in a given situation. In comparison with similar implementations, our approach is faster and simpler to follow. This method is integrated into our Nexus soccer simulation team of Ferdowsi University. The outcome showed the superiority of the fuzzy two-phase selection method compared to the non-fuzzy one
