In the emerging information economy, data evolves as an essential asset and personal data in particular is used for data-driven business models. However, companies frequently leverage personal data without considering individuals’ data sovereignty. Therefore, we strive to strengthen individuals’ position in data ecosystems by combining concepts of data sovereignty and data economy. Our research design comprises an approach to design thinking iteratively generating, validating, and refining such concepts. As a result, we identified ten areas of tension that arise when linking data sovereignty and data economy. Subsequently, we propose initial solutions to resolve these tensions and thus contribute to knowledge about the development of fair data ecosystems benefiting both individuals’ sovereignty and companies’ access to data. © 2022 17th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik, WI 2022. Video violence detection aims to locate the time window in which violent behavior occurs. Most methods focus on utilizing RGB features directly or only fusing RGB and audio features, ignoring the effective exploitation of motion information carried in optical flow. This lack of emphasis on motion information may impact the overall accuracy of violence detection. Moreover, we observe that videos contain strong local correlations, so it is insufficient to analyze only from a holistic perspective without capturing finer details. Therefore, in this paper, we design a novel Global-and-Local Cross-Modal Network (GL-CMN) for violence detection, which effectively integrates motion information and multi-granularity features from target videos. Specifically, we first propose a Motion-Guided Attention Module (MGAM) to obtain enhanced visual features by calibrating RGB features through optical flow features. Secondly, The enhanced features are simultaneously fed into two parallel branches of the network. The global branch fuses the visual and audio features into holistic representations. The local branch extracts multi-scale temporal dependencies through dilated convolutions. Experiments demonstrate that our method exhibits significant improvement compared to previous state-of-the-art methods on the XD-Violence dataset.

Artificial intelligence-enabled database technology, known as AI4DB (Artificial Intelligence for databases), is an active research area attracting significant attention and innovation. This survey first introduces the background of learning-based database techniques. It then reviews advanced query optimization methods for learning databases, focusing on four popular directions: cardinality/cost estimation, learning-based join order selection, learning-based end-to-end optimizers, and text-to-SQL models. Cardinality/cost estimation is classified into supervised and unsupervised methods based on learning models, with illustrative examples provided to explain the working mechanisms. Detailed descriptions of various query optimizers are also given to elucidate the working mechanisms of each component in learning query optimizers. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and development opportunities of learning query optimizers. The survey further explores text-to-SQL models, a new research area within AI4DB. Finally, we consider the future development prospects of learning databases.

The climate of contemporary instruction is changing because of the fast improvement of instructive methodologies. This review looks at a scope of new instructive innovations, including their purposes, benefits, hardships, and potential to reform regular homeroom settings. The research explores how understudy commitment, learning results, and showing approaches are impacted by innovations as well as man-made brainpower (simulated intelligence), virtual reality, augmented reality (AR), gamification, and versatile learning frameworks. The objective of the ongoing task is to decide the ideal calculation for anticipating homeroom investment from understudies. In this review, we gathered information from virtual learning environment (VLE) utilizing versatile learning and handled it utilizing a scope of information preprocessing strategies, like exception ID, standardization, encoding, and missing worth evacuation. Utilizing a scope of commonsense markers and cross-approval draws near, this paper surveyed various AI (ML) characterization frameworks on our information. The outcomes demonstrate that the CatBoost model outperforms the others in terms of accuracy. When compared to earlier studies, this suggested model performed better in every way. According to the paper's results section, the CatBoost model's accuracy was roughly 95.34%, its precision was 97.75%, and its recall was 95.4%. The AISAR model was contrasted with when compared to the AISAR 91% model, our model's precision of 97.75% indicates that our findings are superior.

Preserving the confidentiality and integrity of data transmission is paramount in the Internet of Things (IoT)-based healthcare systems. Current encryption techniques that allow plaintext checks primarily serve a specific cryptosystem, lacking the adaptability to work with a diverse system incorporating various cryptographic methods. To address this, we present a unique online/offline heterogeneous signcryption scheme with plaintext checkable encryption (HOOSC-PCE). This approach enables the transition of signcrypted messages from an identity-based cryptosystem (IBC) to a public key infrastructure (PKI) system, improving information interoperability. A key aspect of our scheme is its capacity to allow cloud servers to perform plaintext queries, facilitating efficient data searches using plaintext keywords over encrypted data. Furthermore, the signcryption process is divided into online and offline phases. The online phase handles tasks that require fewer resources, while the offline phase carries out more resource-intensive preparatory tasks. We rigorously tested the HOOSC-PCE scheme's security by proving it secure under the Random Oracle Model (ROM). Meanwhile, compared to similar work, it effectively reduces computation costs by 46.39%, 19.45%, 18.73%, and 13.25% across offline encryption, online encryption, decryption, and search algorithms. The results indicate that the HOOSC-PCE is secure and efficient, confirming its feasibility for IoT-based healthcare systems. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

The vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) can share information of vehicles’ location, speed and route within a certain range by interconnecting vehicles, roadside units (RSU) and the cloud. As people’s daily traffic tools, vehicles reflect users’ daily routines and other privacy. Therefore, privacy protection is very critical in VANETs. However, in the existing schemes, a user’s temporary identity (TID) is generated by the user himself, which is inconvenient to be managed and can be easily forged. The reputation values of users also need to be considered. In this paper, an identity based signcryption scheme for VANETs is proposed. In the novel scheme, TID is generated by key generation center (KCG) and a personal reputation system is produced. The security analysis of the scheme shows that our scheme is practical. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

The rising complexity of cyber threats demands tailored cybersecurity training, especially for critical infrastructure sectors such as healthcare, energy, telecommunications, and maritime. This paper examines the training needs of professionals in these domains, emphasizing the importance of customized Training Programmes that address sector-specific challenges and workforce diversity. For this study, two tailored questionnaires were developed to address the distinct needs and perspectives of IT and non-IT personnel. This distinction was crucial to capture the diverse challenges and priorities faced by these groups, ensuring a more holistic understanding of organizational training requirements. By incorporating these diverse perspectives, the study aims to bridge critical gaps in training and awareness, enabling organizations to design more inclusive and impactful cybersecurity programs. The findings guide the development of effective Cyber Range training initiatives, providing actionable recommendations to enhance cybersecurity preparedness in critical infrastructures. These include strategies for building competences that contribute to the protection of sector-related supply chains, promoting the reusability of Cyber Range training scenarios to improve resource efficiency, and tailoring scenarios to sector-specific challenges for greater relevance. All efforts should focus on building a cyber resilient ecosystem for critical infrastructures to address the current and future cyber threat landscape. The study was performed in the context of SecAwarenessTruss project, that emphasizes the role of Cyber Ranges in delivering hands-on, realistic training to enhance organizational resilience.

The IoT data security is a hot topic at a data time. Personal privacy data may be easily leaked to data collectors in an open network environment. If the collectors get enough data, they can analyze the habit and interest of every IoT user, which may give helpful advice or cause endless harass. RFID authentication protocol in IoT is a powerful way to avoid the essential data leaked to data collectors. The previous protocols protect the security of RFID system. Increasing emphasis on the use of real-world evidence (RWE) to support clinical policy and regulatory decision-making has led to a proliferation of guidance, advice, and frameworks from regulatory agencies, academia, professional societies, and industry. A broad spectrum of studies use real-world data (RWD) to produce RWE, ranging from randomized controlled trials with outcomes assessed using RWD to fully observational studies. Yet many RWE study proposals lack sufficient detail to evaluate adequacy, and many analyses of RWD suffer from implausible assumptions, other methodological flaws, or inappropriate interpretations. The Causal Roadmap is an explicit, itemized, iterative process that guides investigators to pre-specify analytic study designs;it addresses a wide range of guidance within a single framework. By requiring transparent evaluation of causal assumptions and facilitating objective comparisons of design and analysis choices based on pre-specified criteria, the Roadmap can help investigators to evaluate the quality of evidence that a given study is likely to produce, specify a study to generate high-quality RWE, and communicate effectively with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. This paper aims to disseminate and extend the Causal Roadmap framework for use by clinical and translational researchers, with companion papers demonstrating application of the Causal Roadmap for specific use cases. Aim The urgency for remote, reliable and scalable biodiversity monitoring amidst mounting human pressures on ecosystems has sparked worldwide interest in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), which can track life underwater and on land. However, we lack a unified methodology to report this sampling effort and a comprehensive overview of PAM coverage to gauge its potential as a global research and monitoring tool. To address this gap, we created the Worldwide Soundscapes project, a collaborative network and growing database comprising metadata from 416 datasets across all realms (terrestrial, marine, freshwater and subterranean). Location Worldwide, 12,343 sites, all ecosystem types. Time Period 1991 to present. Major Taxa Studied All soniferous taxa. Methods We synthesise sampling coverage across spatial, temporal and ecological scales using metadata describing sampling locations, deployment schedules, focal taxa and audio recording parameters. We explore global trends in biological, anthropogenic and geophysical sounds based on 168 selected recordings from 12 ecosystems across all realms. Results Terrestrial sampling is spatially denser (46 sites per million square kilometre—Mkm 2 ) than aquatic sampling (0.3 and 1.8 sites/Mkm 2 in oceans and fresh water) with only two subterranean datasets. Although diel and lunar cycles are well sampled across realms, only marine datasets (55%) comprehensively sample all seasons. Across the 12 ecosystems selected for exploring global acoustic trends, biological sounds showed contrasting diel patterns across ecosystems, declined with distance from the Equator, and were negatively correlated with anthropogenic sounds. Main Conclusions PAM can inform macroecological studies as well as global conservation and phenology syntheses, but representation can be improved by expanding terrestrial taxonomic scope, sampling coverage in the high seas and subterranean ecosystems, and spatio-temporal replication in freshwater habitats.
