Internet of Things, edge computing devices, the widespread use of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, and the extensive adoption of cloud computing pose significant challenges to maintaining fault tolerance in distributed systems. As the volume and complexity of systems continue to grow, the probability of system failures also grows, leading to downtime and poor performance. Fault tolerance is pivotal in modern computing systems by preventing downtime and service disruptions, even during failures. However, adopting fault tolerance comes with additional resource consumption, such as memory, CPU, disk, and network bandwidth usage, impacting system performance. Balancing fault tolerance with system performance is crucial to optimize resource utilization while minimizing the costs associated with detecting and recovering from faults. This paper introduces a node-to-node fault tolerance coordination mechanism for distributed systems to facilitate the tradeoff between fault tolerance and the cost of performance penalties and resource consumption. The proposed mechanism is preliminarily implemented on HDFS cluster. Our proposal enables opportunities to minimize the cost of the fault tolerance impact on performance and resource usage compared to the existing fault tolerance coordination mechanism. © 2023 IEEE.

This study developed and implemented a machine learning-driven HR system designed to enhance recruitment outcomes, particularly in online interviews. Challenges such as candidate impersonation, interview question memorization, and deepfake manipulations were addressed. The system incorporated several critical processes utilizing advanced algorithms: pre-interview shortlisting employed Support Vector Machines (SVM) achieving 92% accuracy;cognitive skills assessment utilized adaptive testing methods powered by fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) with 88% accuracy;emotional intelligence evaluation was conducted using deep learning-based emotion detection algorithms attaining 85% accuracy;face verification leveraged Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for identity and deepfake detection with 90% accuracy;online video interviews were analyzed through integrated audio-visual processing techniques;language proficiency testing employed Natural Language Processing (NLP) models reaching 87% accuracy;analysis of thinking patterns was performed using sentiment analysis algorithms with 83% accuracy;and candidate grading was facilitated by ensemble learning methods ensuring consistent and reliable evaluations. The results demonstrated the system’s effectiveness in verifying candidate authenticity and assessing competence, providing a robust solution for modern recruitment challenges. © 2024 IEEE.

Learning distinguishing features from training datasets while filtering features of occlusions is critical to person retrieval scenarios. Most of the current person re-identification (Re-ID) methods based on classification or deep metric representation learning tend to overlook occlusion issues on the training set. Such representations from obstacles are easily over-fitted and misleading due to being considered as a part of the human body. To alleviate the occlusion problem, we propose a pose-guided feature region-based fusion network (PFRFN), to utilize pose landmarks as guidance to guide local learning for a good property of local feature, and the representation learning risk is evaluated on each part loss separately. Compared with only using global classification loss, concurrently considering local loss and the results of robust pose estimation enable the deep network to learn the representations of the body parts that prominently displayed in the image and gain the discriminative faculties on occluded scenes. Experimental results on multiple datasets, i.e., Market-1501, DukeMTMC, CUHK03, demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in a variety of scenarios. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH, DE part of Springer Nature.

This article designs and implements a runtime library for general dataflow programming, DFCPP (Luo Q, Huang J, Li J, Du Z. Proceedings of the 52nd International Conference on Parallel Processing Workshops. ACM;2023:145-152.), and builds upon it to design and implement a multi-machine C++ dataflow library, M-DFCPP. In comparison to existing dataflow programming environments, DFCPP features a user-friendly interface and richer expressive capabilities (Luo Q, Huang J, Li J, Du Z. Proceedings of the 52nd International Conference on Parallel Processing Workshops. ACM;2023:145-152.), enabling the representation of various types of dataflow actor tasks (static, dynamic and conditional task). Besides that, DFCPP addresses the memory management and task scheduling for non-uniform memory access architectures, while other dataflow libraries lack attention to these issues. M-DFCPP extends the capability of current dataflow runtime libraries (DFCPP, taskflow, openstream, etc.) and capable of multi-machine computing, while maintains the API compatible with DFCPP. M-DFCPP adopts the concepts of master and follower (Dean J, Ghemawat S. Commun ACM. 2008;51(1):107-113;Ghemawat S, Gobioff H, Leung ST. ACM SIGOPS Operating systems Review. ACM;2003:29-43.), which form a worksharing framework as many multi-machine system. To shift to the M-DFCPP framework, a filtering layer is inserted to the original DFCPP, transforming it into followers that can cooperate with each other. The master is made of modules for scheduling, data processing, graph partition, state management and so forth. In benchmark tests with workload with directed acyclic graph topology of binary trees and random graphs, DFCPP demonstrated performance improvements of 20% and 8%, respectively, compared to the second fastest library. M-DFCPP consistently exhibits outstanding performance across varying levels of concurrency and task workloads, achieving a maximum speedup of more than 20 over DFCPP, when the task parallelism e

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, a wide variety of deep learning models have emerged across various fields. Nevertheless, the quality of these models varies significantly, making the effective evaluation of model performance a pressing issue. In some open data competitions, remote evaluation based on Docker images has increasingly become a novel and reliable approach, providing a consistent environment to ensure the fairness of model evaluations. However, it imposes high demands on hardware resources, typically requiring dedicated resources for each participant to serve as Docker Registries for the pushing and management of Docker images. In this paper, we extend the load balancing module of the Nginx server by integrating Lua scripts and propose a Cache-based Dynamic Smooth Weighted Round-robin (CDSWRR) algorithm to optimize the pushing process of Docker images. By constructing a unified load balancing entry, the proposed approach simplifies the deployment of Docker Registry clusters. Experiments show that compared to weighted round-robin and IP hash algorithms of Nginx, the CDSWRR algorithm is able to ensure stable pushing of Docker images and reduce both response error rate and response time. © 2024 IEEE.

Vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs)provide intelligent navigation and efficient route management,resulting in time savings and cost reductions in the transportation ***,the exchange of beacons and messages over public channels among vehicles and roadside units renders these networks vulnerable to numerous attacks and privacy *** address these challenges,several privacy and security preservation protocols based on blockchain and public key cryptography have been proposed ***,most of these schemes are limited by a long execution time and massive communication costs,which make them inefficient for on-board units(OBUs).Additionally,some of them are still susceptible to many *** such,this study presents a novel protocol based on the fusion of elliptic curve cryptography(ECC)and bilinear pairing(BP)*** formal security analysis is accomplished using the Burrows–Abadi–Needham(BAN)logic,demonstrating that our scheme is verifiably *** proposed scheme’s informal security assessment also shows that it provides salient security features,such as non-repudiation,anonymity,and ***,the scheme is shown to be resilient against attacks,such as packet replays,forgeries,message falsifications,and *** the performance perspective,this protocol yields a 37.88%reduction in communication overheads and a 44.44%improvement in the supported security ***,the proposed scheme can be deployed in VANETs to provide robust security at low overheads.

The prediction of solar storms from real-time satellites data is an essential to protect various aviation, power, and communication infrastructures. For this reason, current research interest is focusing on creating systems that can predict solar fare accurately. This paper combers Gramian Angular Fields (GAF) images and Markov Transition Field (MTF) images that have been generated by converting pre-flare Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data from 2010 to 2016. After that, the deep learning neural network for the solar flare production platform accepts both MTF and GAF images as input to generate the predictions. Furthermore, this paper;investigated using MTF and GAF images spritely as input to the solar flare production platform. After that, the results of MTF and GAF images were compared using various prediction verification measures. © 2022 IEEE.

This study describes a broad endeavor to use cutting-edge technologies to empower deaf primary school students in Sri Lanka. Three key elements make up the study: a sound recognition and classification system, an Android software for translating gestures in Sinhala Sign Language (SSL), and a mobile app for emotion recognition and text-tospeech in Sinhala. By promptly alerting caregivers to potential dangers, the sound recognition technology secures the security of deaf children at home, providing an invaluable layer of security. The Android software bridges the communication gap and improves family interactions by translating SSL gestures captured by the device's camera into textual representations. This promotes successful communication between deaf children and their parents. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are used in the mobile application to detect and understand emotions based on facial expressions. This enables non-verbal youngsters to communicate successfully through Sinhala textto-speech output with adaptive tone modulation. This research aims to build a caring and inclusive atmosphere, enabling increased independence and enhanced communication skills in deaf children by combining these advances. The suggested solutions could significantly improve the lives of deaf kids, providing them with opportunities for better learning, social interaction, and emotional health. © 2023 IEEE.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is biggest preventable cause of early deaths, and hence one of the global preferences of World Health Organization for determent. PAH also induces the vast majority of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Both PAH and CKD are inherently connected, but the common molecular pathways and genes of these two disorders have not yet been demonstrated. In this study, we aimed to determine the similar molecular pathways and therapeutic hub proteins in PAH and CKD that may be used to anticipate the progression of the disease. We used Limma package to conduct differential analysis of gene transcripts of PAH and CKD obtained from the Gene Expression repository. The functional annotations of the genes were determined with the use of pathway analysis. Then proteinâprotein interaction (PPI) networks were constructed to determine the hub proteins, and a clustering technique was applied to determine the most significant PPI elements. We separately evaluated the PAH and CKD gene expression-based datasets and discovered 30 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) shared by both PAH and CKD. The pathways of KEGG revealed that the most prevalent DEGs are associated with the Malaria and African trypanosomiasis. Gene ontology (GO), TF and miRNA analysis and module investigation is treated the forthcoming work of this study. Finally, various drug compounds have been suggested based on the concordant DEGs. © 2023 IEEE.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a childhood cancer prevalent worldwide, which can prove fatal within weeks or months. However, current diagnosis models based on machine learning and deep learning methods fail to consider device noise (pixel-level perturbations) and rotation/translation (spatial-transformed perturbations), which can undermine the model's robustness. Adversarial training is a potential solution to this issue. This paper presents a hybrid perturbation adversarial training (HPAT) strategy that leverages two types of adversarial samples: pixel-level adversarial samples and spatial adversarial samples. This work generates these hybrid adversarial samples through Projected Gradient Descent (PGD) in couple with spatial transformation based on the Bayesian optimization (STBO) algorithm, respectively. This work introduced the Mixed Batch Normalization (MixBN) module to handle both adversarial samples and clean samples, alleviating the problem of clean accuracy degradation due to adversarial training. The proposed hybrid adversarial training strategy is tested on the public acute lymphoblastic leukemia dataset and found that it outperformed existing acute lymphoblastic cell classification models.
