Requirements traceability is becoming increasingly significant element in software engineering. It provides critical function in the development and maintenance of a software system. From the software evolution point of view, requirements traceability plays an important role in facilitating software evolution. Since the evolution is inevitable, a traceability approach must take as much as possible the important influencing aspects into account to the evolution processes in order to minimize the evolution efforts. This paper evaluates several recent traceability approaches published in literature with the focus on their contributions to software evolution. The evaluation results may be used as a basis for improving requirements traceability approaches that may simplify the software evolution tasks.

Agent-Oriented Conceptual Modelling (AOCM) is a novel approach to conceptual modelling that has gained considerable credence within the research community over the last decade. The key innovation in AOCM is the use of an agent, together with associated concepts such as goals, plans, commitments etc. as modelling constructs. This has been inspired, in part, by the growing popularity of agent-oriented approaches to the building of intelligent systems, within the artificial intelligence and related research communities. CASO is a formal agent programming language for process specification and agent programming. It supports the formal specification of complex multiagent systems and provides a tool for process simulation. On the other hand it lacks features for modeling the rationale behind design choices. This work allows us to benefit from the complementary representational capabilities of the two frameworks.

Since a significant amount of redundant information causes problems like inefficiency or congestion in the existing RSS, a method using part of speech (pos) tagging to extract keywords is proposed to solve these problems. Firstly, the title of news is analyzed by using Chinese word segmentation and speech tagging system. Then, the keywords of the title are identified according to their part of speech. All of the extracted keywords are compared, categorized and stored according to the proposed criterion in this paper. In that case, all the news in the same category is identical or similar. Business processes usually have to consider certain constraints like domain specific and quality requirements. The automated formal verification of these constraints is desirable, but requires the user to provide an unambiguous formal specification. In particular since the notations for business process modeling are usually visual flow-oriented languages, the notational gap to the languages usually employed for the formal specification of constraints, e.g., temporal logic, is significant and hard to bridge. Thus, our approach relies on UML Activities as a single language for the specification of both business processes and the corresponding constraints. For the expression of such constraints, we have provided a process pattern definition language based on specialized Activities. In this paper, we describe how model checking can be employed for formal verification of business processes against such patterns. For this, we present an automated transformation of the business process and the corresponding patterns into a transition system and temporal logic, respectively.

Information security and assurance is a rapidly developing area therefore government and industry have high demand for information security professionals. This paper reports collaboration activities between North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T SU) and University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte as well as results and lessons learned. Leveraging the strength of the Department of software engineering and Information system at UNC Charlotte the Department of computer science at NC A&T SU has established the new Information Assurance (IA) concentration undergraduate curriculum. Four new IA courses, five IA interactive simulation software packages and two isolated IA laboratories are developed. Faculty members in both universities have collaborated to manage and mentor the Cyber-Defender programs, host IA and Cyber Security symposiums, submit proposals, advise graduate students and publish papers. The outcome exhibits that the collaboration between the majority and minority universities serves as a pathway for the minority university to build competencies in information assurance, and bridged the widening "information assurance gap" between majority and minority universities. © 2007 IEEE.

Post-delivery fault reporting and correction are important activities in the software maintenance process. It is worthwhile to study these activities in order to understand the difference between open-source and closed-source software products from the maintenance perspective. This paper proposes three metrics to evaluate the post-delivery fault reporting and correction process, the average fault hidden time, the average fault pending time, and the average fault correction time. An empirical study is further performed to compare the fault correction processes of NASA Ames (closed-source) projects and three open-source projects: Apache Tomcat, Apache Ant, and Gnome Panel.

Dynamic reconfiguration is a promising approach for resource efficient utilization of microelectronic systems. Standard platforms for partial dynamic reconfiguration are field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Multiple hardware tasks can share the same FPGA resources over time, which increases the device utilization in comparison to non-reconfigurable systems. Although, similar resource management is already known in the area of operating systems, there is a requirement to adapt these concepts to the special needs of dynamically reconfigurable systems. Additionally, there is a lack of underlying mechanisms, e.g., to suspend hardware tasks and restart them at a different position within the FPGA. In this article we introduce a mechanism for task relocation that includes saving and restoring of state information of the task. Based on this approach we address the problem of defragmentation. We present defragmentation algorithms that minimize different types of costs. With the help of a detailed simulation model and a benchmark, we finally provide realistic simulation results and compare the different algorithms.

software visualization is one of the enabling techniques to provide support during software maintenance activities. software maintenance is a multidimensional problem domain which involves the integration, abstraction and analysis of different knowledge resources and artifacts. Maintainers are typically left with no guidance on how these existing artifacts, tools and knowledge should be utilized to complete a particular task. In this research, we present a novel visualization approach that integrates these artifacts in the software maintenance process chain.

For an odd prime p, an even integer n, and d = p k + 1 with gcd(n, k) = 1, there are p + 1 distinct decimated sequences s(dt + l), 0 les I < p + 1, for a p-ary m-sequence s(t) of period p n - 1 since gcd(d, p n -1) = p + 1. In this paper, the cross-correlation distribution between a p-ary m-sequence s(t) and its p+1 distinct decimated sequences s(dt+l) is derived. The maximum magnitude of their cross-correlation values is l+p radic p n if I = 0 mod p + 1 for n = 0 mod 4 or I = (p + l)/2 mod p + 1 for n = 2 mod 4 and otherwise, 1 + radicp n . Also by using s(t) and s(dt + I), a new family of p-ary sequences of period p n -1 is constructed, whose family size is p n middot and C max is 1+ pradicp n .

For an odd prime p, n=4k, and d=((p 2k +1)/2) 2 , there are (p 2k +1)/ 2 distinct decimated sequences s(dt+l), 0lesl2k+1)/2, of a p-ary m-sequence s(t) of period p n -1 because gcd(d,p n -1)=(p 2k +1)/2. In this paper, it is shown that the cross-correlation function between s(t) and s(dt+I), 0lesl< (p 2k +1)/2, takes the values in {-1, -1 - radicp n , -1+radicp n -1+2radicp n } and their cross-correlation distribution is also derived.
