The topological design of local area network is a process to find the network with the best performance, minimum cost and highest reliability, under the objective and engineering constraints. The problem could be considered as a multi-objective optimization problem, owing to that it requires all kinds of network performances be optimized at the same time and keeps the cost minimum, and has been proven to be a NP-hard problem by some researchers. There is no existing effective determinant algorithm that can solve it so far. In this paper, we introduce the Pareto optimization theory, Pareto ranking technique and the Pareto converging genetic algorithm based on them, and a PCGA based algorithm for solving bicriteria network topology design problems of local area network, is presented, considering the network average delay and network cost. We also adopt the Pru¿fer number to represent chromosomes in order to ensure the tree topology of LAN. Besides, traditional crossover approach is improved to speed up the algorithm and a new variant based halting criteria is proposed to enhance the stability of the GA results. Thought the comparison between our results and that of exhausted search, our algorithm turns out to be correct and effective, and compared with the classic NPGA, the proposed method can search faster and produce topologies closer to the real Pareto-front.

Security is a very important issue in information processing, especially in open network environments like the Internet. The Common Criteria (CC) is the standard requirements catalogue for the evaluation of security critical systems. Using the CC, a large number of security requirements on the system itself and on the system development can be defined. However, the CC does not give methodological support. In this paper, we show how to integrate security aspects into the verification and validation of software engineering processes and develop a new integrated approach for verification and validation of software and security issues based on common criteria standard. The activities and documents from the Common Criteria are tightly intertwined with the verification techniques, which improves the security of the developed system and reduces the cost and effort. We choose IEEE standard of software verification and validation as reference information of V&V and demonstrate our ideas by means of a case-study, the Electronic Purse Card system.

In many medical applications, it is necessary to precisely control a robot to achieve exact positioning. In such cases, some components of robot which had been considered rigid should be modeled with visco-elastic elements to present more exact model of robot, and hence controllers designed under the assumption of rigidity may not accurately control them, especially when time-delay and disturbances have been appeared in the closed-loop system. In this study, we present a new control approach to force such robots to have rigid and exact motions, while they have visco-elastic components. Time-delay in the feedback path defects transient state response, while disturbances change the steady state response. Therefore different controllers are required to correct the robot behaviors. In this regard, robot dynamics is extracted and converted to the characteristic equation. Then, by an appropriate system identification method, an order-reduced model is obtained. Loop-shaping technique is exploited on the magnitude frequency response to design different model-based controllers for principal zones of the frequency response. The simulation results illustrate appropriate time-delay compensation and disturbance rejection in the time response. ©2007 IEEE.

Unified Modeling Language (UML) is widely used for software modeling. UML is not defined precisely enough for unambiguous model execution. Therefore, the first and most important requirement for model execution is precisely modeling the actions. An action takes a set of inputs and converts them into a set of outputs, where either or both sets may be empty. It is the fundamental unit of behavior specification. So a precise action semantics language (ASL) and a specified syntax are required. Unfortunately, actions defined in UML do not have a concrete syntax and OMG does not recommend a specific language, so there is not a standard ASL. Object Constraint Language (OCL) is a formal language used to describe expressions on UML models. It is a specification language, but not a programming language. The high overlap between ASL and OCL suggests that OCL can be used partly for ASL. OCL for Execution (OCL4X) is defined based on OCL to implement operations that have side effects and provide the ability for model execution. By mapping from ASL to OCL, we use OCL to express some actions in ASL. New syntax constructs are added to the standard OCL, together with their semantics. Finally, an example is given to show how to use OCL4X.

Decentralized approaches for Web services discovery, such as peer-to-peer, become more and more attention - getting in the scientific community. In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer framework, which adopts an enhanced skip graph named Servicelndex as the overlay network for service discovery. To guarantee discovery efficiency, Servicelndex schemed WSDL-S (Web services semantics) as semantic Web services description language and extracted its semantic attributes as indexing keys in skip graph. Also a multi-layer P2P overlay network was constructed to aggregate similar keys and keep load balancing on peer nodes. The evaluation showed that the Servicelndex system performs considerable service discovery efficiency.

This paper presents a secure agent server named J-SAS. J-SAS is a secure and distributed execution environment for mobile agents. The core of the J-SAS is an agent virtual machine fulfilling the same functions as a traditional host machine. J-SAS considers the agent as an autonomous entity with execution code, state, specification and certification parts. J-SAS provides mobility, state dependency, run time code altering, and communications facilities. J-SAS consists of two main parts: agent gateway (AgG) and agent server (AgS). AgG is responsible for receiving agent through HTTP, authentication and delivering it with a passport to AgS. On the other side, AgS gets the agent, checks its passport, translates its code to safe code, initializes its state and runs it in a secure environment. Using resource allocation algorithms, ACL and authentication, J-SAS shows a good defensive mood against unauthorized read/write, denial of service and masquerading attacks.

A target tracking algorithm with the region-based confidence computation on the CNN-UM is proposed. The CNN-UM is an analog parallel computational system which handles regions easily with its region creating capability, parallel processing in the region and regional constraining capability. If the probability for each feature is created in each region, the total confidence of a target can be computed with a fusion algorithm employing products of weighted sums of feature probabilities. The cell-wise target decision in the region can be performed depending on the confidence value at each cell. By virtue of the analog parallel computational structure of the CNN-UM, the computation speed is very fast. On chip experimental results are included in this paper. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2002.

Hitachi has put the H8/300 and H8/300L series 8-bit microcomputers, the H8/300H, H8S/2000 and H8S/2600 series 16-bit microcomputers and the SuperH RISC engine series 32-bit microcomputer into commercial production to meet the various requirements placed on electronic appliances in the consumer product, information, communications and industrial fields. Upward compatibility is maintained throughout the H8/H8S series, from the H8/300L at the low end to the H8S/2600 model at the high end. The series includes inexpensive and reduced power consumption models with limited numbers of pins, the world's highest level CPU core for 16-bit microcomputer performance, large amounts of on-chip flash memory and a variety of peripheral modules, and allows you to select the combination that best suits your system. The SuperH RISC engine series allows you to freely select from among CPU cores with 26 to 360 MIPS (million instructions per second) performance based on our 16-bit, fixed-length instruction RISC (reduced instruction set computer) architecture. This series includes SH2-DSP/SH3-DSP models that incorporate DSPs (digital signal processors) and vector-type FPUs (floating-point units) for which there is strong demand from the network and multimedia fields. Hitachi has also developed the SH-5 with performance in the 1,000-MIPS class and an architecture expanded to 64 bits as the next-generation processor. Hitachi has also developed middleware for voice, image, audio and communications applications, to be run mainly on the SuperH RISC engines. It is very easy to construct products for network and multimedia applications on the basis of the middleware.

The Internet and intranet systems are rapidly spreading through society. Their corporate systems are widely applied to, for example, information sharing and information transfer via the Web, access to groupware and databases, support for decision-making by linking with data and processes on existing backbone systems, and customization services for data warehouses and customers -which leads to business innovation. The expansion and development of network computing can only be achieved by implementing system and information security. This article describes a security framework suitable for the development of a distributed environment, the scope of connection over the network, methods of implementing a secure system solution considering system cost and usability suitable for the type of information transferred over the network, and security technology and products to implement these functions.

As telecommunication management network (TMN) agents are constructed depending on different hardwares and operating systems, there are several problems in development, maintenance & administration of classes in distributed object (DO). The representative problems are that since all of agents of TMN system should keep up their software and data blocks redundantly for the same functions, multi-platform can not be supported and the standards of Q3 interface implementation can not be set up. To solve the problems, farming methodology based on entity aspect (EA) model has been suggested, which is originated from network computing concept. In order to support farming methodology entity aspect oriented programming (EAOP) is suggested also as a programming paradigm which is based on EA Model. EAOP is a paradigm that after real world objects are analyzed not in only one aspect but in several aspects, the aspect elements which are generated by the analysis are defined to aspect-objects. Using the EAOP, the distributed TMN agents of personal communication network (PCN) are designed and implemented.
