With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) has become a key enabler for connecting large-scale devices. LoRa technology plays a pivotal role in IoT due to its excellent anti-interference ability and long-range transmission capabilities. However, environmental factors, terrain, and building occlusion significantly impact the propagation and loss of path of LoRa signals, which in turn affect network coverage and communication quality. Therefore, accurately predicting the path loss of LoRa signals is crucial for effective network optimization and troubleshooting. In this study, we propose a path loss prediction model based on a multilayer perceptron (MLP), integrating the Okumura model path loss as a reference feature and comparing it with traditional empirical models. The experimental results demonstrate that the MLP model effectively learns complex nonlinear relationships, improving the accuracy of prediction. Through 10-fold cross-validation and testing various neuron configurations, it is found that the MLP model with 20 neurons (MLP20) performs best, yielding the lowest root mean square error (RMSE). Compared to the traditional Okumura Hata model, the MLP model shows significant advantages in prediction accuracy and stability. This study not only takes advantage of the theoretical strengths of the Okumura model but also enhances the adaptability to complex environmental factors through MLP, providing a new solution for LoRa network optimization. © 2024 IEEE.

WebAssembly, a new binary instruction set, has rapidly gained popularity across fields such as blockchain, edge computing, and cloud computing due to its efficiency, security, and portability. However, recent research has identified limitations in WebAssembly's type system and linear memory design, leading to security issues such as integer overflows and memory safety *** this paper, we present WasmChecker, the first static analysis approach for WebAssembly programs based on abstract interpretation. WasmChecker consists of three components: a frontend module for parsing and constructing control flow graphs, a static analysis module for iterative state analysis, and a vulnerability filtering module to identify security flaws. We design and implement a software prototype and conduct extensive evaluations. Experiments demonstrate WasmChecker's effectiveness, achieving a 97.33% recall in a small dataset and accurately identifying 46 vulnerabilities across four real-world datasets, with a 92% recall rate. Additionally, WasmChecker shows high efficiency, with an average runtime of 13.85 seconds on WebAssembly programs smaller than 1 MB. © 2024 IEEE.

To prevent irreversible damage to one’s eyesight,ocular diseases(ODs)need to be recognized and treated *** fundus imaging(CFI)is a screening technology that is both effective and *** to CFIs,the early stages of the disease are characterized by a paucity of observable symptoms,which necessitates the prompt creation of automated and robust diagnostic *** traditional research focuses on image-level diagnostics that attend to the left and right eyes in isolation without making use of pertinent correlation data between the two sets of *** addition,they usually only target one or a few different kinds of eye diseases at the same *** this study,we design a patient-level multi-label OD(PLML_ODs)classification model that is based on a spatial correlation network(SCNet).This model takes into consideration the relevance of patient-level diagnosis combining bilateral eyes and multi-label ODs ***_ODs is made up of three parts:a backbone convolutional neural network(CNN)for feature extraction i.e.,DenseNet-169,a SCNet for feature correlation,and a classifier for the development of classification *** DenseNet-169 is responsible for retrieving two separate sets of attributes,one from each of the left and right *** then,the SCNet will record the correlations between the two feature sets on a pixel-by-pixel *** the attributes have been analyzed,they are integrated to provide a representation at the patient *** the whole process of ODs categorization,the patient-level representation will be *** efficacy of the PLML_ODs is examined using a soft margin loss on a dataset that is readily accessible to the public,and the results reveal that the classification performance is significantly improved when compared to several baseline approaches.

ForkXplorer:an approach of fork summary generation

Pull-based development has become an important paradigm for distributed software *** this model,each developer independently works on a copied repository(i.e.,a fork)from the central *** is essential for developers to maintain awareness of the state of other forks to improve collaboration *** this paper,we propose a method to automatically generate a summary of a *** first use the random forest method to generate the label of a fork,i.e.,feature implementation or a bug *** on the information of the fork-related commits,we then use the TextRank algorithm to generate detailed activity information of the ***,we apply a set of rules to integrate all related information to construct a complete fork *** validate the effectiveness of our method,we conduct 30 groups of manual experiment and 77 groups of case studies on *** propose Fea_(avg)to evaluate the performance of Fea_(avg)the generated fork summary,considering the content accuracy,content integrity,sentence fluency,and label extraction *** results show that the average of of the fork summary generated by this method is *** than 63%of project maintainers and the contributors believe that the fork summary can improve development efficiency.

Modeling sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ in rat cardiomyocytes

The sarcoplasmic reticulum（SR） primarily serves as the intracellular Ca2+store in cardiac myocytes,mediating cellular function under cardiac physiology and ***,the properties of cardiac SR Ca2+have not yet been fully determined,particularly in rats and mice,which are the most commonly used experimental species in studies on cardiac physiology and ***,we developed a spatially detailed numerical model to deduce Ca2+movements inside the junctional SR（jSR） cisternae of rat *** model accurately reproduced the jSR Ca2+kinetics of local and global SR Ca2+releases reported in a recent experimental *** this model,we revealed that jSR Ca2+kinetics was mostly determined by the total release flux via type 2 ryanodine receptor（RyR2）channels but not by RyR2 *** Ca2+diffusion in global SR was previously reported to be slow,our simulation demonstrated that Ca2+diffused very quickly inside local jSR cisternae and the decrease in the diffusion coefficient resulted in a significant reduction of jSR Ca2+depletion *** Ca2+was typically experimentally detected with fluorescence *** simulation revealed that when the dynamical characteristics of fluorescence dye exerted a minimal effect on actual Ca2+mobility inside jSR,the reaction rate of the dye with Ca2+could significantly affect apparent jSR Ca2+***,loading a chemical fluorescence dye with fast kinetics,such as Fluo-5N,into SR is important for Ca2+measurement inside ***,our model provides new insights into deciphering Ca2+handling inside nanoscopic jSR cisternae in rat cardiomyocytes.

Design of a ML-based trust prediction model using intelligent TrustBoxes in challenged networks

Challenged networks (CNs) contain resource-constrained nodes deployed in regions where human intervention is difficult. Opportunistic networks (OppNets) are CNs with no predefined source-to-destination paths. Due to their inherent properties, CNs and OppNets are highly susceptible to black-hole (BH) attacks, resulting in degraded packet-delivery ratio. In this work, an ML-based trust prediction model (MLTPM) is proposed to identify potential BH nodes in OppNets. MLTPM uses a novel function to calculate the total-trust-value (TTV) of each node. Intelligent TrustBoxes are introduced in the network to identify possible BH nodes, using TTV, along with five more node-behaviour features. TrustBoxes reduce the computational overhead of the resource-constrained nodes. Three simulated scenarios are compared - no detection, non-ML-based detection, and MLTPM, each using epidemic, prophet, and spray-and-wait routing protocols. MLTPM performs best with spray-and-wait, exhibiting about 25.21% and 80% mean improvement in delivery-ratio and dropped-message numbers respectively, compared to non-ML-based detection. An overall 12.62% improvement in delivery-ratio and 26.7% improvement in dropped messages is observed using MLTPM, compared to the above-mentioned scenarios. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Rethinking People Analytics With Inverse Transparency by Design

Employees work in increasingly digital environments that enable advanced analytics. Yet, they lack oversight over the systems that process their data. That means that potential analysis errors or hidden biases are hard to uncover. Recent data protection legislation tries to tackle these issues, but it is inadequate. It does not prevent data misusage while at the same time stifling sensible use cases for data. We think the conflict between data protection and increasingly data-driven systems should be solved differently. When access to an employees’ data is given, all usages should be made transparent to them, according to the concept of inverse transparency. This allows individuals to benefit from sensible data usage while addressing the potentially harmful consequences of data misusage. To accomplish this, we propose a new design approach for workforce analytics software we refer to as inverse transparency by design. To understand the developer and user perspectives on the proposal, we conduct two exploratory studies with students. First, we let small teams of developers implement analytics tools with inverse transparency by design to uncover how they judge the approach and how it materializes in their developed tools. We find that architectural changes are made without inhibiting core functionality. The developers consider our approach valuable and technically feasible. Second, we conduct a user study over three months to let participants experience the provided inverse transparency and reflect on their experience. The study models a software development workplace where most work processes are already digital. Participants perceive the transparency as beneficial and feel empowered by it. They unanimously agree that it would be an improvement for the workplace. We conclude that inverse transparency by design is a promising approach to realize accepted and responsible people analytics. With increasingly digitalized workplaces, the potential for sophisticated analyses of employee data rises. This increases the relevance of people analytics (PA), which are tools for the behavioral analysis of employees. Despite this potential, the successful usage of PA is hindered by employee concerns. Especially in Europe, where the GDPR or equivalent laws apply, employee consent is required before data can be processed in PA. Therefore, PA can only provide relevant insights if employees are willing to share their data. One potential way of achieving this is the use of appeal strategies. In the design of PA, the core strategy that can be used is the inclusion of data owner benefits, such as automated feedback, that are given to employees in exchange for sharing their own data. In this paper, we examine benefits as an appeal strategy and develop four design principles for the inclusion of benefits in PA. Then, we describe an exemplary set of analyses and benefits, demonstrating how our principles may be put into practice. Based on this exemplary implementation, we describe and discuss the results of a user study (n = 46) among employees in the EU and UK. Our study investigates the factors that foster or hinder employees' consent to sharing their data with PA. Then, we introduce our data owner benefits and analyze whether they can positively influence this consent decision. Our introduced data owner benefits were, contrary to our expectations, not suited to motivate our participants to consent to sharing their data. We therefore analyze how participants judge the benefits. Participants generally appreciate having them, confirming the value of including data owner benefits when designing PA. Some of our introduced benefits negatively influenced participants' sharing decision, though, meaning that careful consideration of potential risks is required when conceptualizing them. © 2023 ACM.

Self-determination and autonomy in data sharing, in recent research also referred to as data sovereignty, arouses increasing interest in the context of industrial ecosystems. Its practical implementation considers organisational, regulatory, legal, and particularly technical aspects. Previous work has not yet focused on the structured analysis of technical characteristics of systems used in data sharing concerning data sovereignty. In this paper, we therefore elicit what system requirements help the data sovereignty of a data sharing participant, starting from privacy protection goals, FAIR principles, and ISO/IEC 25010:2011. To address this, we conducted a qualitative study in the form of an online questionnaire. We asked 18 domain experts to evaluate selected system criteria for their impact and relevance to the implementation of data sovereignty. Our work has resulted in a set of 22 functional requirements that can be used for designing data sharing systems. With the rapid development of computer vision and deep learning technologies, object detection plays a crucial role in various fields. Due to the complexity and diversity of underwater environments, underwater vision tasks face great challenges. In this paper, we improved the YOLOv8 detection model for the fish detection task in complex environments. Specifically, we proposed a multi-scale feature fusion method (MFANet) that combines multiscale weighted feature fusion with multiscale attention to efficiently capture multilevel features of fishes in complex environments. We designed a multiscale weighted feature fusion module that combines feature maps at different scales to enhance the model's representation of the target. By introducing a multi-scale attention mechanism, the model is able to pay more attention to important feature regions. We conducted experiments on real underwater complex environment datasets. The results show that our proposed improved method significantly enhances the performance of the YOLOv8 model in fish detection tasks and lays a good foundation for subsequent underwater detection tasks. © 2024 IEEE.
