Behavior trees (BTs) have been extensively applied in the area of both computer games and robotics, as the control architectures. However, the construction of BTs is labor-expensive, time-consuming, and even impossible as the complexity of task increases. In this work, we propose a formal verification based synthesis method to automatically construct BTs whose behaviors satisfy the given Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) specifications. Our method first explores candidate BTs by a grammar-based Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), then the explored BTs are transformed into Communicating Sequential Processes (CSP) models. After that, we invoke the verifier to check the models’ correctness w.r.t. specifications, and provide feedback based on the verification result for guiding the search process. The application of our method on several representative robotic missions indicates its promising. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT and Bard, have revolutionized the entire industry with their extraordinary power, and gained traction in the cloud community. Deploying LLM workloads in cloud has become increasingly common nowadays, as cloud easily fulfills their requirement on extensive computing resources. There are already tools (such as Kubernetes) that help simplify the management of Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads, yet LLMs often require the balancing of multi-dimensional demands, which can be hard to handle by basic tools. This paper introduces an AI-aware orchestration framework that optimizes LLM performance from aspects including scheduling, scaling, and advanced data management. It can improve the cost-efficiency of the LLM workloads while ensuring its performance, while ensuring the absence of common security risks, supported by Intel hardware.

Tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery via semi-supervised learning

Identifying cancer-related differentially expressed genes provides significant information for diagnosing tumors, predicting prognoses, and effective treatments. Recently, deep learning methods have been used to perform gene differential expression analysis using microarray-based high-throughput gene profiling and have achieved good results. In this study, we proposed a new robust multiple-datasetsbased semi-supervised learning model, MSSL, to perform tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery across multiple tumor types and multiple datasets, which addressed the following long-lasting obstacles:(1) the data volume of the existing single dataset is not enough to fully exert the advantages of deep learning;(2) a large number of datasets from different research institutions cannot be effectively used due to inconsistent internal variances and low quality;(3) relatively uncommon cancers have limited effects on deep learning methods. In our article, we applied MSSL to The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database(GEO) pan-cancer normalized-level3 RNA-seq data and got 97.6% final classification accuracy, which had a significant performance leap compared with previous approaches. Finally, we got the ranking of the importance of the corresponding genes for each cancer type based on classification results and validated that the top genes selected in this way were biologically meaningful for corresponding tumors and some of them had been used as biomarkers, which showed the efficacy of our method.

Historical and current aerial photographs are only of great value if the geolocation or address of the photographed areas is also available. In Western Europe, especially Austria, Germany and Czech Republic, there is a market for the sale of aerial photographs of one’s own private residential building. Automated geolocation is a feasible way to enable the sales agents to assign the addresses for the sale more quickly. In the course of this research work, a process chain is modeled that allows the assignment of aerial photographs to residential addresses using machine vision. After model-based rectifying the aerial images to compensate for perspective distortions, larger image blocks get assembled using image stitching. The assignment to a 2D reference map, such as satellite imagery via Google Maps, is done by applying a U-Net CNN after extracting durable image features such as roads or buildings. The mapping of aerial imagery to two-dimensional cartography is either automated via registration approaches or based on manually placed corresponding landmarks and homography. Test runs on imagery between the years 1969 and 2020 show that the labor-intensive process of geolocation of aerial imagery can be solved by the proposed process model in a hybrid way. © 2022 The Authors.

Spatio-temporal (ST) prediction plays a pivotal role in earth sciences, such as meteorological prediction, urban computing. Adequate high-quality data, coupled with deep models capable of inference, are both indispensable and prerequisite for achieving meaningful results. However, the sparsity of data and the high costs associated with deploying sensors lead to significant data imbalances. Models that are overly tailored and lack causal relationships further compromise the generalizabilities of inference methods. Towards this end, we first establish a causal concept for ST predictions, named NuwaDynamics, which targets to identify causal regions in data and endow model with causal reasoning ability in a two-stage process. Concretely, we initially leverage upstream self-supervision to discern causal important patches, imbuing the model with generalized information and conducting informed interventions on complementary trivial patches to extrapolate potential test distributions. This phase is referred to as the discovery step. Advancing beyond the discovery step, we transfer the data to downstream tasks for targeted ST objectives, aiding the model in recognizing a broader potential distribution and fostering its causal perceptual capabilities (denoted as Update step). Our concept aligns seamlessly with the contemporary backdoor adjustment mechanism in causality theory. Extensive experiments on six real-world ST benchmarks showcase that models can gain outcomes upon the integration of the NuwaDynamics concept. NuwaDynamics also can significantly benefit a wide range of changeable ST tasks like extreme weather and long temporal step super-resolution predictions. This article presents the findings from a simulation study on an interpolating analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which is classified as a high-precision device. The study reveals that the proposed interpolating ADC significantly enhances both accuracy and speed of conversion, outperforming known analogs by at least twice. For certain sub-ranges, improvements in accuracy and speed are observed to be more than double. The combined output code error of the interpolating ADC is found to be less than the set value at the 2nd stage of conversion by 4-5 times, with errors not exceeding 0.022% for a set 0.1 %, 0.01 % for a set 0.05%, and 0.0022% for a set 0.01%. The conversion duration increases twofold in the millivolt range when the set error values are halved, while in the range above 1V, the duration remains under 300 μ s for both cases. For the highest set error of 0.001%, the duration can reach up to 2 ms. The optimally chosen interpolating converter with an increased accuracy to 0.05% demonstrates typical performance in the 1 mV-1V range and showcases a conversion speed twice as fast in the 1V-10V range with enhanced accuracy. The proposed interpolating converter is thus considered a superior high-precision device, offering significant improvements in both accuracy and speed for various operating sub-ranges. © 2024 IEEE.
