A combination of closed sequential pattern mining and closed itemset pattern mining was proposed to mine closed multidimensional sequential patterns. There are two ways for this combination; (1) mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information followed by mining closed sequential patterns from sequences associated with closed itemset patterns, and (2) mining closed sequential patterns from sequences followed by mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. In the first way the major cost is mining all sequences associated with closed itemset patterns. A similar problem occurs with the second way, the major cost is mining all multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes two new combinations that don't need to mine all sequences in the first combination, and all multidimensional information in the second combination. Both combinations can be effected by exploiting two concepts. In the first combination, any closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset patten I can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern I' if I sup I'. In the second combination, any closed itemset patterns associated with a closed sequential pattern s can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern s' if s sup s'.

Service-oriented architectures provide integration of interoperability for independent and loosely coupled services. Web services and the associated new standards such as WSRF are frequently used to realise such service-oriented architectures. In such systems, autonomic principles of self-configuration, self-optimisation, self-healing and self- adapting are desirable to ease management and improve robustness. In this paper we focus on the extension of the self management and autonomic behaviour of a WSRF container connected by a structured P2P overlay network to monitor and rectify its QoS to satisfy its SIAs. The SLA plays an important role during two distinct phases in the life-cycle of a WSRF container. Firstly during service deployment when services are assigned to containers in such a way as to minimise the threat of SLA violations, and secondly during maintenance when violations are detected and services are migrated to other containers to preserve QoS. In addition, as the architecture has been designed and built using standardised modern technologies and with high levels of transparency, conventional Web services can be deployed with the addition of a SLA specification.

This paper presents interfacing techniques to integrate a virtual environment (VE), computer graphics, image-based modeling, and other technologies in a networked system for robot control. Technologies such as networked robotics have advanced rapidly in the past decade, bringing a physical aspect to the usage of the Internet. Various applications of Internet telerobotics have been investigated and a variety of techniques have been proposed to increase the control robustness and efficiency of such systems. In this paper, we introduce a teleoperated robot manipulator that uses VE and other supporting technologies as a human-system interface to suppress the variable communication latency of the Internet. The paper focuses on the control techniques and the system structure that supports the implementation of the techniques. © 2006 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Embedded digital signal processors for software defined radio have stringent design constraints including high computational bandwidth, low power consumption, and low interrupt latency. Furthermore, due to rapidly evolving communication standards with increasing code complexity, these processors must be compiler-friendly, so that code for them can quickly be developed in a high-level language. In this paper, we present the design of the Sandblaster Processor, a low-power multithreaded digital signal processor for software defined radio. The processor uses a unique combination of token triggered threading, powerful compound instructions, and SIMD vector operations to provide real-time baseband processing capabilities with very low power consumption. We describe the processor's architecture and microarchitecture, along with various techniques for achieving high performance and low power dissipation. We also describe the processor's programming environment and the SB3010 platform, a complete system-on-chip solution for software defined radio. Using a super-computer class vectorizing compiler, the SB3010 achieves real-time performance in software on a variety of communication protocols including 802.11b, GPS, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, GPRS, and WCDMA. In addition to providing a programmable platform for SDR, the processor also provides efficient support for a wide variety of digital signal processing and multimedia applications. © 2006 Springer science + Business Media, LLC.

We propose a new method, called closed multidimensional sequential pattern mining, for mining multidimensional sequential patterns. The new method is an integration of closed sequential pattern mining and closed itemset pattern mining. Based on this method, we show that (1) the number of complete closed multidimensional sequential patterns is not larger than the number of complete multidimensional sequential patterns (2) the set of complete closed multidimensional sequential patterns covers the complete resulting set of multidimensional sequential patterns. In addition, mining using closed itemset pattern mining on multidimensional information would mine only multidimensional information associated with mined closed sequential patterns, and mining using closed sequential pattern mining on sequences would mine only sequences associated with mined closed itemset patterns

The paper recasts the problem of feature location in source code as a decision-making problem in the presence of uncertainty. The main contribution consists in the combination of two existing techniques for feature location in source code. Both techniques provide a set of ranked facts from the software, as result to the feature identification problem. One of the techniques is based on a scenario based probabilistic ranking of events observed while executing a program under given scenarios. The other technique is defined as an information retrieval task, based on the latent semantic indexing of the source code. We show the viability and effectiveness of the combined technique with two case studies. A first case study is a replication of feature identification in Mozilla, which allows us to directly compare the results with previously published data. The other case study is a bug location problem in Mozilla. The results show that the combined technique improves feature identification significantly with respect to each technique used independently

engineering a large software project involves tracking the impact of development and maintenance changes on the software performance. An approach for tracking the impact is regression benchmarking, which involves automated benchmarking and evaluation of performance at regular intervals. Regression benchmarking must tackle the nondeterminism inherent to contemporary computer systems and execution environments and the impact of the nondeterminism on the results. On the example of a fully automated regression benchmarking environment for the mono open-source project, we show how the problems associated with nondeterminism can be tackled using statistical methods.

Assertions had their origin in program verification. For the systems developed in industry, construction of assertions and their use in showing program correctness is a near-impossible task. However, they can be used to show that some key properties are satisfied during program execution. We first present a survey of the special roles that assertions can play in object oriented software construction. We then analyse such assertions by relating them to the case study of an automatic surveillance system. In particular, we address the following two issues: What types of assertions can be used most effectively in the context of object oriented software? How can you discover them and where should they be placed? During maintenance, both the design and the software are continuously changed. These changes can mean that the original assertions, if present, are no longer valid for the new software. Can we automatically derive assertions for the changed software?.

Regression testing is an important part of software quality assurance. We work to extend regression testing to include regression benchmarking, which applies benchmarking to detect regressions in performance. Given the specific requirements of regression benchmarking, many contemporary benchmarks are not directly usable in regression benchmarking. To overcome this, we present a case for designing a generic benchmarking environment that will facilitate the use of contemporary benchmarks in regression benchmarking, analyze the requirements and propose architecture of such an environment. © 2004 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI).
