Existing approaches for solving the lattice Boltzmann equations with finite difference methods are explicit and semi-implicit;both have certain stability constraints on the time step size. In this work, a fully implicit second-order finite difference scheme is developed. We focus on a parallel, highly scalable, Newton-Krylov-RAS algorithm for the solution of a large sparse nonlinear system of equations arising at each time step. Here, RAS is a restricted additive Schwarz preconditioner based on a first-order spatial discretization. We show numerically that by using the fully implicit method the time step size is no longer constrained by the CFL condition, and the Newton-Krylov- RAS algorithm is scalable on a supercomputer with more than ten thousand processors. Moreover, to calculate the steady state solution we investigate an adaptive time stepping strategy. The total compute time required by the implicit method with adaptive time stepping is much smaller than that of an explicit method for several test cases. © 2015 Society for Industrial and Applied mathematics.

Complex spin configurations in hybrid magnetic multilayer structures due to mutual spin imprinting

Hybrid Co/Pd-Permalloy multilayer structures exhibit multiple domain phases resulting from mutual spin imprinting, dependent on the precise layer composition and thickness. While such hybrid structures can support either a pure Landau closure-domain pattern or a perpendicular exchange-spring magnetization structure, numerical analysis also revealed an anomalous mixed Landau-maze domain state. Mutual imprinting of the spin configuration between the layers was strongest for the latter multidomain state, which we propose is a consequence of exchange energy dissipation over the two lateral dimensions. An analytical derivation of domain phase boundaries was consistent with the micromagnetic simulations and gave important insight into their origin.

Wireless Power Transfer has become a commercially viable technology to charge devices because of the convenience of no power wiring and the reliability of continuous power supply. This paper concerns the fundamental issue of wireless charger placement with electromagnetic radiation (EMR) safety. Although there are a few wireless charging schemes consider EMR safety, none of them addresses the charger placement issue. In this paper, we propose PESA, a wireless charger Placement scheme that guarantees EMR SAfety for every location on the plane. First, we discretize the whole charging area and formulate the problem into the Multidimensional 0/1 Knapsack (MDK) problem. Second, we propose a fast approximation algorithm to the MDK problem. Third, we optimize our scheme to improve speed by double partitioning the area. We prove that the output of our algorithm is better than (1 - ϵ) of the optimal solution to PESA with a smaller EMR threshold (1 - ϵ/2)Rt and a larger EMR coverage radius (1 + ϵ/2)D. We conducted both simulations and field experiments to evaluate the performance of our scheme. Our experimental results show that in terms of charging utility, our algorithm outperforms the prior art by up to 45.7%.

This paper considers the problem of identifiability and parameter estimation of single-input-single-output, linear, time-invariant, stable, continuous-time systems under irregular and random sampling schemes. Conditions for system identifiability are established under inputs of exponential polynomial types and a tight bound on sampling density. Identification algorithms of Gauss-Newton iterative types are developed to generate convergent estimate sequences. When the sampled output is corrupted by observation noises, input design, sampling times, and convergent algorithms are intertwined. Persistent excitation (PE) conditions for strongly convergent algorithms are derived. Unlike the traditional identification, the PE conditions under irregular and random sampling involve both sampling times and input values. Under the given PE conditions, iterative and recursive algorithms are developed to estimate the original continuous-time system parameters. The corresponding convergence results are obtained. Several simulation examples are displayed to verify the theoretical results. © 2015

The field of practical character recognition has seen great advances these years, owing the to proposition of effective newmethod and progress in computer hardware. However, lots of problems like precision and progressing speed remain to be solved. This paper proposes a useful practical optical character recognition method of both Chinese character and English character. Given a photo randomly taken, we pre-progress it to undo the influence of light and tilt. Then we separate each word to extract 8-direction chain-code feature of it. When faced with complex scene, the method we propose achieve relatively high precision and fast speed. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group.

Currently, Information exchanges between the organizations are significantly important. Although there is a standard Financial Information Exchange System, called as FIX, is implemented around the financial businesses, some important issues still are ignored. This paper proposes a new architecture to forward order and the financial information exchange pattern base on FIXML. This new proposed system which is a new interface of FIX System, named as IFIX. The standard FIX is applied by this paper that pointed that spreading exchange of financial information and forwards the information play an important role in broker. IFIX, a new information exchange framework of FIX, is proposed to dissolve the limitation of the current system.

Entanglement, one of the central mysteries of quantum mechanics, plays an essential role in numerous tasks of quantum information science. A natural question of both theoretical and experimental importance is whether universal entanglement detection can be accomplished without full state tomography. In this Letter, we prove a no-go theorem that rules out this possibility for nonadaptive schemes that employ single-copy measurements only. We also examine a previously implemented experiment [H. Park et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 230404 (2010)], which claimed to detect entanglement of two-qubit states via adaptive single-copy measurements without full state tomography. In contrast, our simulation and experiment both support the opposite conclusion that the protocol, indeed, leads to full state tomography, which supplements our no-go theorem. These results reveal a fundamental limit of single-copy measurements in entanglement detection and provide a general framework of the detection of other interesting properties of quantum states, such as the positivity of partial transpose and the k-symmetric extendibility.

This paper describes our group’s first attempt on the Contextual Suggestion Track of the Twenty-fourth Text REtrieval Conference (TREC 2015). The task aims to provide recommendations on attractions for various kinds of users under different and complex contexts. TREC provides two ways to participate in the track: one is to create a web server that can respond to contextual related queries called "Live Experiment", the other is to submit run files that have all the responses to the released requests called "Batch Experiment". For Live Experiment, due to lack of training data, our approach sticks closely to the defined relevance judgement criteria and context knowledge. We take linear interpolation to combine a variety of factors and contextual related knowledge. For Batch Experiment, we further consider domain preference under user attributes, and take existing Machine Learning based methods in principle. We show that feature engineering is a vital part for attraction suggestions. We find that the performance of suggestions to the provided user profiles and contexts has been improved using domain preference analysis. © 2015 24th Text REtrieval Conference, TREC 2015 - Proceedings.
