This paper presents an improved method to teleoperate impedance of a robot based on surface electromyography (EMG) and test it experimentally. Based on a linear mapping between EMG amplitude and stiffness, an incremental stiffness extraction method is developed, which uses instantaneous amplitude identified from EMG in a high frequency band, compensating for non-linear residual error in the linear mapping and preventing muscle fatigue from affecting the control. Experiments on one joint of the Baxter robot are carried out to test the approach in a disturbance attenuation task, and to compare it with automatic human-like impedance adaptation. The experimental results demonstrate that the new human operated impedance method is successful at attenuating disturbance, and results similarly to as automatic disturbance attenuation, thus demonstrating its efficiency. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

In traditional control theory, a single observer has access all the measured outputs of the plant to estimates its asymptotically. In many real world engineering systems, it may be difficult to build a single observer that has access to all the measured outputs. One way around this difficulty is to build a network of cooperative observers, each of which obtains a portion of the measurement outputs, that collectively produce an asymptotic estimate of the plant state. In this paper, we construct a network of such observers for a continuous-time linear system. Assuming that these observers are connected through an undirected connected network, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition on the plant parameters under which the network of observers will achieve asymptotic omniscience. A network of cooperative observers is said to achieve asymptotic omniscience if their states all converge to the plant state asymptotically. Numerical simulation results are presented to validate theoretical results. The design of cooperative observers sheds some light on the solution of some other real-world problems, such as the design of networked location-based services and sensor networks.

A bipartite state ρAB is symmetric extendible if there exists a tripartite state ρABB′ whose AB and AB′ marginal states are both identical to ρAB. Symmetric extendibility of bipartite states is of vital importance in quantum information because of its central role in separability tests, one-way distillation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs, one-way distillation of secure keys, quantum marginal problems, and antidegradable quantum channels. We establish a simple analytic characterization for symmetric extendibility of any two-qubit quantum state ρAB; specifically, tr(ρB2)≥tr(ρAB2)−4detρAB. As a special case we solve the bosonic three-representability problem for the two-body reduced density matrix.

Obtaining a W State from a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger State via Stochastic Local Operations and Classical Communication with a Rate Approaching Unity

We introduce a notion of the entanglement transformation rate to characterize the asymptotic comparability of two multipartite pure entangled states under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). For two well known SLOCC inequivalent three-qubit states |GHZ⟩=(1/2)(|000⟩+|111⟩) and |W⟩=(1/3)(|100⟩+|010⟩+|001⟩), we show that the entanglement transformation rate from |GHZ⟩ to |W⟩ is exactly 1. That means that we can obtain one copy of the W state from one copy of the Greenberg-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state by SLOCC, asymptotically. We then apply similar techniques to obtain a lower bound on the entanglement transformation rates from an N-partite GHZ state to a class of Dicke states, and prove the tightness of this bound for some special cases which naturally generalize the |W⟩ state. A new lower bound on the tensor rank of the matrix permanent is also obtained by evaluating the tensor rank of Dicke states.

A large portion of people suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the world. Unfortunately, some of them don't know they have been contracted CKD until they need dialysis treatment at the end stage. Diagnosis through non-invasive ultrasonic imaging techniques become important clinical approaches for detecting CKD, and high potential or at-risk CKD patients could avoid being infected via blood test and/or reduce chances of abrupt deterioration in renal function by taking iodinated contrast medium. This research established a detection system based on computer vision and machine learning techniques for facilitating diagnosis of CKD and different stages of CKD. Novel features and support vector machine were applied for rapid detection. In this study, several evaluations on different clustered groups were performed and compared according to estimated glomerular filtration rates (GFR). In addition, the proposed system required 0.016 seconds in average for feature extraction and classification for each testing case. The results showed that the system could produce consistent diagnosis based on noninvasive ultrasonographic approaches and which could be considered as the most proper clinical diagnosis and medical treatment for CKD patients.

This paper addresses the H_∞ performance and H_∞ control of switched stochastic linear systems subject to average dwell-time switching. At first, a sufficient condition is presented to guarantee the switched stochastic system to achieve a weighted H_∞ performance under the condition that all subsystems are asymptotic mean square stable. Further, the disturbance attenuation property of the considered systems is investigated when both stable and unstable subsystems are included. It is shown that if the active time of unstable subsystems is properly allocated, a stochastic bounded real lemma (SBRL) can be established based on the solvability of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). As an application of the obtained SBRL, the robust control problem is settled for a class of switched stochastic systems with (x,u,v)-dependent noises, and the state-feedback H_∞ controller is developed.

Cooperative behaviors are ubiquitous in nature and human *** is very important to understand the internal mechanism of emergence and maintenance of *** we know now,the offsprings inherit not only the phenotype but also the neighborhood relationship of their *** recent research results show that the interactions among individuals facilitate survival of cooperation through network reciprocity of clustering *** paper aims at introducing an inheritance mechanism of neighborhood relationship to explore the evolution of *** detail,a mathematical model is proposed to characterize the evolutionary process with the above inheritance *** analysis and numerical simulations indicate that high-level cooperation can emerge and be maintained for a wide variety of cost-to-benefit ratios,even if mutation happens during the evolving process.

software testing plays a crucial role in software quality assurance. software testing is, however, a time and resource consuming process. It is, therefore, important to estimate as soon as possible the effort required to test software. Unfortunately, little is known about the prediction of the testing effort. The study presented in this paper aims at exploring empirically the prediction of the testing effort from use cases. We address the testing effort from the perspective of test suites size. We used four metrics to characterize the size and complexity of use cases, and three metrics to quantify different perspectives of the size of corresponding test suites. We used the univariate logistic regression analysis to evaluate the individual effect of each use case metric on the size of test suites. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the combined effect of the use case metrics. The performance of the prediction models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic analysis. An experimental study, using data collected from five Java case studies, is reported providing evidence that some of the use case metrics are significant predictors of the size of test suites. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2013.
