Review of cervical cell segmentation

Cervical cell segmentation is a significant task in medical image analysis and can be used for screening various cervical diseases. In recent years, substantial progress has been made in cervical cell segmentation techniques, leading to notable improvements in the performance of cervical cancer auxiliary diagnostic systems. This review summarizes and analyzes the recent research on cervical cell segmentation. The main contents include an introduction to cervical cell segmentation datasets, commonly used evaluation metrics, and various segmentation methods. Currently, mainstream segmentation methods can be classified into two categories: traditional and deep learning-based. Building upon this foundation, we unfold according to the context of segmentation objectives, evaluating the performance of each method in achieving specific segmentation objectives and exploring the relationships among different methods. Through this review, other researchers can clearly understand the development of cervical cell segmentation technology and future trends, and explore new methods and technologies based on integrating and sorting out existing technologies, so as to help cervical cancer auxiliary diagnosis systems achieve more accurate cell image segmentation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper investigates the application of GradCAM, an explainable AI (XAI) technique, to enhance the transparency and precision of fingerprint authentication systems in forensics, particularly in detecting fingerprint mutilation-a common method used to evade biometric security measures. Employing the SOCOfing dataset, which contains both unaltered and synthetically altered fingerprint images, we apply GradCAM to visualize and understand the decision-making process of a convolutional neural network (CNN) model trained to recognize and classify these alterations. Our study not only demonstrates the model's effectiveness in identifying different types of fingerprint modifications but also identifies areas where the model's performance can be enhanced. Through detailed visual analysis, we uncover the model's focus points and assess its reliability across various alteration types and difficulty levels. The insights gained underline the potential of XAI in improving the robustness and reliability of biometric verification systems, paving the way for more secure and equitable AI applications in high-stakes environments. © 2024 IOS Press. A sharding blockchain-based UAV system for search and rescue missions

Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.

Nash Equilibria in Reverse Temporal Voronoi Games

We study Voronoi games on temporal graphs as introduced by Boehmer et al. (IJCAI ’21) where two players each select a vertex in a temporal graph with the goal of reaching the other vertices earlier than the other player. In this work, we consider the reverse temporal Voronoi game, that is, a player wants to maximize the number of vertices reaching her earlier than the other player. Since temporal distances in temporal graphs are not symmetric in general, this yields a different game. We investigate the difference between the two games with respect to the existence of Nash equilibria in various temporal graph classes including temporal trees, cycles, grids, cliques and split graphs. Our extensive results show that the two games indeed behave quite differently depending on the considered temporal graph class. © 2024, Brown University. All rights reserved.

Emergency events detection based on integration of federated learning and active learning

Social media networks now make it easy to access, in real-time, massive amounts of information from all over the world. They are often the primary source of information for billions of people. In addition to other uses, social media platforms can be valuable to provide real-time information about emergency events and can help detect emergency situations. This can provide affected individuals with crucial information about imminent dangers, prompting them to take appropriate action and significantly influencing their decisions. The continuous flow of data generated during these emergencies requires efficient training and modeling. Deep learning can simplify this process and make it less reliant on feature extraction strategies. However, implementing deep learning-based solutions can be expensive and time-consuming due to the vast amounts of data involved. To address these limitations, in this paper, we employed and analyzed the effectiveness of utilizing Active Learning techniques along with Federated Learning for emergency events using a dataset garnered from the social media. After collecting images, we used a Federated Learning paradigm to split the data amongst different clients and used vision transformers as local models for each client. Furthermore, we used an ensemble approach to integrate the results from these strengthened local and global models in a novel way, demonstrating that the proposed setup yields an accuracy of 99%. The Logloss score reached 0.043, indicating the outstanding performance of our approach. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

Requirements elicitation is one of the fundamental sub-processes of requirements engineering which is used to find the needs of stakeholders. There are several activities in this sub-process, i.e., identification of stakeholders and their requirements, software requirements prioritization, and analysis. Recommendation systems have been intertwined with the requirements elicitation process to predict the stakeholders’ requirements based on their preferences for functional and non-functional requirements. A number of systematic literature reviews (SLRs) have been carried out in the area of requirements elicitation. These SLRs do not support the applications of the recommendation systems during the requirements elicitation process. To deal with this issue, we present an SLR on recommendation systems-based software requirements elicitation processes, from 2009 to 2022, undertaking four research questions: (a) What are the different activities of the software requirements elicitation methods? (b) What are the applications of recommendation systems in the identification of the software requirements? (c) How the recommendation systems can facilitate the identification of stakeholders in the requirements elicitation process? (d) What are the ways to automate the selection of requirements elicitation techniques? The aim of this study is to identify the research gaps in the area of recommendation systems-based requirements elicitation processes and suggest future research directions. © 2024, The Author(s).

A topical VAEGAN-IHMM approach for automatic story segmentation

Feature representations with rich topic information can greatly improve the performance of story segmentation tasks. VAEGAN offers distinct advantages in feature learning by combining variational autoencoder (VAE) and generative adversarial network (GAN), which not only captures intricate data representations through VAE's probabilistic encoding and decoding mechanism but also enhances feature diversity and quality via GAN's adversarial training. To better learn topical domain representation, we used a topical classifier to supervise the training process of VAEGAN. Based on the learned feature, a segmentor splits the document into shorter ones with different topics. Hidden Markov model (HMM) is a popular approach for story segmentation, in which stories are viewed as instances of topics (hidden states). The number of states has to be set manually but it is often unknown in real scenarios. To solve this problem, we proposed an infinite HMM (IHMM) approach which utilized an HDP prior on transition matrices over countably infinite state spaces to automatically infer the state's number from the data. Given a running text, a Blocked Gibbis sampler labeled the states with topic classes. The position where the topic changes was a story boundary. Experimental results on the TDT2 corpus demonstrated that the proposed topical VAEGAN-IHMM approach was significantly better than the traditional HMM method in story segmentation tasks and achieved state-of-the-art performance. © 2024 the Author(s).

Research on Enhanced Multi-head Self-Attention Social Recommendation Algorithm Based on Graph Neural Network

In today’s society, communication among people has become more frequent and extensive due to the rapid development of science, technology, and the Internet. This vast communication occurs in real life and virtual online worlds. However, with the overwhelming amount of information available, people often struggle with finding and accessing the information they need, leading to frustration. To address this challenge, we conducted a study to extract valuable information and insights from users’ social relationships. While existing models can help us understand and analyze users’ social relationships to some extent, there are still significant challenges in extracting valuable insights. Therefore, we conducted in-depth research to improve the GraphRec model and created a new social recommendation model called the CWYGNN model. The CWYGNN model is unique because it can identify deeper connections in users’ social interactions through in-depth learning of the social sequences between users. This is important for understanding users’ behavioral patterns, predicting their needs, and providing personalized services. To validate the effectiveness of the CWYGNN model, we conducted experiments and comparisons on several public datasets. The experimental results show that the CWYGNN model outperforms similar approaches in processing user social relationships and extracting valuable insights. This result provides a new way of thinking and methodology to help us better understand and serve users and ultimately enhance their overall experience. © (2024) International Association of Engineers. Melanoma is of the lethal and rare types of skin *** is curable at an initial stage and the patient can survive *** is very difﬁcult to screen all skin lesion patients due to costly *** are requiring a correct method for the right treatment for dermoscopic clinical features such as lesion borders,pigment networks,and the color of *** challenges are required an automated system to classify the clinical features of melanoma and non-melanoma *** trained clinicians can overcome the issues such as low contrast,lesions varying in size,color,and the existence of several objects like hair,reﬂections,air bubbles,and oils on almost all *** contour is one of the suitable methods with some drawbacks for the segmentation of irre-gular *** entropy and morphology-based automated mask selection is pro-posed for the active contour *** proposed method can improve the overall segmentation along with the boundary of melanoma *** this study,features have been extracted to perform the classiﬁcation on different texture scales like Gray level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM)and Local binary pattern(LBP).When four different moments pull out in six different color spaces like HSV,Lin RGB,YIQ,YCbCr,XYZ,and CIE L*a*b then global information from different colors channels have been ***,hybrid fused texture features;such as local,color feature as global,shape features,and Artiﬁcial neural network(ANN)as classiﬁers have been proposed for the categorization of the malignant and *** had been carried out on datasets Dermis,DermQuest,and *** results of our advanced method showed super-iority and contrast with the existing state-of-the-art techniques.
