In Agile software delivery, complexity factors have become an important part that has been linked to the success of software projects, especially with highly structured plan-driven approaches. Although there are a range of known techniques, practices and structures aimed at improving communication, team, and organisational cohesion, there remains a poor understanding of how organisations and teams can effectively deal with complexity in Agile software delivery. While theoretical and management frameworks of complexity exist, nevertheless, little is known about the important complexity factors at play in the planning, design, and creation of Agile software at the various levels of organisational structures. To better understand complexity and how it may impact Agile delivery across organisational structures, processes and roles, a systematic literature review was undertaken to identify the known complexity factors, to identify gaps in our knowledge, and to identify the approaches that have been undertaken to date to address complexity. This review contributes a fresh perspective to the literature on complexity in Agile software delivery and forwards our conversation on complexity in IT projects, and their effective management. The review was structured around Remington and Pollack’s (2016) model identifying different types of complexity. The review’s findings indicate that complexities result from aspects in functional teams, organizational structures, roles, Agile tasks, and practice-related issues that were identified in distributed Agile projects. We conclude that there may remain a lack of understanding in practice of the complexity factors that are at play in an Agile software delivery context. These findings are relevant to researchers and practitioners seeking to identify areas of focus for addressing complexity in Agile software delivery. Copyright © 2023 Taniela Ramesh Stephen.

Heterogeneous Internet of Things(IoT)applications generate a diversity of novelty applications and services in next-generation networks(NGN),which is essential to guarantee end-to-end(E2E)communication resources for both control plane(CP)and data plane(DP).Likewise,the heterogeneous 5th generation(5G)communication applications,including Mobile Broadband Communications(MBBC),massive Machine-Type Commutation(mMTC),and ultra-reliable low latency communications(URLLC),obligate to perform intelligent Quality-of-Service(QoS)Class Identifier(QCI),while the CP entities will be suffered from the complicated massive HIOT ***,the existing management and orchestration(MANO)models are inappropriate for resource utilization and allocation in large-scale and complicated network *** cope with the issues mentioned above,this paper presents an adopted software-defined mobile edge computing(SDMEC)with a lightweight machine learning(ML)algorithm,namely support vector machine(SVM),to enable intelligent MANO for real-time and resource-constraints IoT applications which require lightweight computation ***,the SVM algorithm plays an essential role in performing QCI ***,the software-defined networking(SDN)controller allocates and configures priority resources according to the SVM classification ***,the complementary of SVM and SDMEC conducts intelligent resource MANO for massive QCI environments and meets the perspectives of mission-critical communication with resource constraint *** on the E2E experimentation metrics,the proposed scheme shows remarkable outperformance in key performance indicator(KPI)QoS,including communication reliability,latency,and communication throughput over the various powerful reference methods.

In the domain of Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC), this paper addresses the complex problem of Service Function Chain (SFC) placement, which is crucial for the efficient deployment of cloud applications in vehicular environments. Our approach leverages Virtual Network Function (VNF) technology, transitioning network services from traditional hardware to more flexible, container-based edge computing frameworks. The primary objective is to organize these VNFs into functional SFCs, thereby minimizing service delays in VEC systems. SFC placement faces two significant challenges. The first is the sequential dependency among VNFs within an SFC, which adds substantial complexity to container deployment. The second challenge is the cold start delay of VNF containers, a critical issue in scenarios requiring swift response times, which negatively impacts service quality in VEC applications. To address these challenges, we propose a comprehensive model for SFC placement that considers the deployment status of VNF containers, acknowledging the complexity of this NP-hard problem. The core of our contribution is the development of the Single SFC Placement Algorithm (SSPA), a sophisticated, greedy-based approach designed for the effective placement of individual SFCs. We enhance this algorithm by incorporating a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique, making it capable of efficiently handling the placement of multiple SFCs. Our solution aims to improve edge resource utilization and mitigate startup delays associated with the initial activation of containers, thereby reducing service delays. Extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate that our algorithm achieves a 34.3% average reduction in service delay compared to four baselines and a 5.8% average reduction compared to other container-aware algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, tensor singular value decomposition (TSVD) within high-order (Ho) algebra framework has shed new light on tensor robust principal component analysis (TRPCA) problem. However, HoTSVD lacks flexibility in handling the hidden correlations along different modes of large-scale multidimensional data. Moreover, the utilization of fixed or data-independent transformations in HoTSVD may result in suboptimality. For a relief, we propose a dual-enhanced self-learning TSVD along all modes to address computational flaws and learn a lossless transformation that induces a lower average-rank tensor. Specifically, we multiply the learnable semiorthogonal matrices obtained through Tucker compression with the original tensor along all modes, thus obtaining a core tensor with more inherent low rankness. Building upon this foundation, a new TNN is introduced by generalizing HoTSVD to Mode-k TSVD, followed by the facilitation to the core tensor, achieving dual-enhancement. Moreover, a reweighting scheme is imposed on the Mode-k HoTSVD to learn the global low-rank correlation and provide an efficient numerical solution. Finally, an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)-based algorithm is developed as a solver. Experimental results on several types of multidimensional visual data, including light field images (LFI) and color videos, demonstrate the superiority of the proposal over previous state-of-the-art methods. © 2020 IEEE.

Detections of Ginkgoes are prerequisites for later counting and harvesting. Due to the uneven distribution of samples, the detection speed and accuracy of existing algorithms cannot adapt to the impact of complex environments. Therefore, an enhanced model YOLOv7-DC based on YOLOv7 is proposed in this paper, which redesigns the detection network and introduces a new feature fusion method. DCNv2 is embedded in the efficient layer aggregation network (ELAN), while PConv is utilized instead of conventional convolution to reduce the parameter impact of DCNv2. Moreover, the attention mechanism CBAM is introduced during training to enhance spatial and channel information, and the ConvMixer architecture is employed to capture spatial and channel relationships within the features, which are transmitted to the detection head through attention mechanism, improving the model's detection accuracy for each specific classification sample. Experimental results show that our YOLOv7-DC achieves both excellent detection speed and recognition rate in various classification tasks. The improved model's average detection accuracy is increased by 6.2% compared to previous algorithms, and the model parameters are reduced by 13%. It is proved that YOLOv7-DC is more suitable for scenarios with imbalanced samples and complex environments. © 2024 IEEE.

LSRN-AED: lightweight super-resolution network based on asymmetric encoder–decoder

Due to limited memory and computing resources, the application of deep neural networks on embedded and mobile devices is still a great challenge. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes a lightweight super-resolution network based on asymmetric encoder–decoder (LSRN-AED), which achieves better performance while reducing model parameters and computation. On the basis of rethinking the roles of encoder and decoder, an asymmetric encoder–decoder (AED) composed of complex encoders and simple decoders is designed to achieve feature extraction and reconstruction. Here, the decoder only adopts one inverted residual block, which can reduce the computational cost of the model and the redundancy of mapping features. For the encoder, inspired by the Transformer structure, an epiphany encoder is designed to realize the feature extraction and representation. In the encoder, a multi-way epiphany attention module (MEAM) is constructed, in which inverted residual blocks are used to replace traditional residual blocks to extract features and reduce model complexity. To realize the selection and enhancement of spatial features, an epiphany attention block (EAB) is designed by exploiting depth-wise convolutions which can learn the significant spatial information of the feature maps. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed LSRN-AED can achieve better performance at lower parameter cost and outperform some existing state-of-the-art lightweight models. For example, compared to the advanced SMSR method, the proposed LSRN-AED has better evaluation metrics while reducing the number of parameters by 45%, 44%, and 44%, and FLOPs by 44%, 42%, and 41% on the × 2/3/4 SR tasks, respectively. With the advancement of image sensing technology, estimating 3Dhuman pose frommonocular video has becomea hot research topic in computer vision. 3D human pose estimation is an essential prerequisite for subsequentaction analysis and understanding. It empowers a wide spectrum of potential applications in various areas, suchas intelligent transportation, human-computer interaction, and medical rehabilitation. Currently, some methodsfor 3D human pose estimation in monocular video employ temporal convolutional network (TCN) to extractinter-frame feature relationships, but the majority of them suffer from insufficient inter-frame feature relationshipextractions. In this paper, we decompose the 3D joint location regression into the bone direction and length, wepropose the TCG, a temporal convolutional network incorporating Gaussian error linear units (GELU), to solvebone direction. It enablesmore inter-frame features to be captured andmakes the utmost of the feature relationshipsbetween data. Furthermore, we adopt kinematic structural information to solve bone length enhancing the use ofintra-frame joint features. Finally, we design a loss function for joint training of the bone direction estimationnetwork with the bone length estimation network. The proposed method has extensively experimented on thepublic benchmark dataset Human3.6M. Both quantitative and qualitative experimental results showed that theproposed method can achieve more accurate 3D human pose estimations.

The seamless integration of intelligent Internet of Things devices with conventional wireless sensor networks has revolutionized data communication for different applications,such as remote health monitoring,industrial monitoring,transportation,and smart *** and reliable data routing is one of the major challenges in the Internet of Things network due to the heterogeneity of *** paper presents a traffic-aware,cluster-based,and energy-efficient routing protocol that employs traffic-aware and cluster-based techniques to improve the data delivery in such *** proposed protocol divides the network into clusters where optimal cluster heads are selected among super and normal nodes based on their residual *** protocol considers multi-criteria attributes,i.e.,energy,traffic load,and distance parameters to select the next hop for data delivery towards the base *** performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated through the network simulator *** different traffic rates,number of nodes,and different packet sizes,the proposed protocol outperformed LoRaWAN in terms of end-to-end packet delivery ratio,energy consumption,end-to-end delay,and network *** 100 nodes,the proposed protocol achieved a 13%improvement in packet delivery ratio,10 ms improvement in delay,and 10 mJ improvement in average energy consumption over LoRaWAN.

Framework for Agent-Based Multistage Application Partitioning Algorithm in Mobile Cloud Computing

The idea of computational offloading is quickly catching on in the world of mobile cloud computing (MCC). Today’s applications have heavy demands on power and computing resources, creating issues with energy consumption, storage capacity, and mobile device performance. Mobile devices may efficiently offload their calculations to cloud servers using the offloading paradigm and then get the processed results back onto the device. The investigation relates to identifying the specific application components that should be offloaded and run remotely and which parts are supposed to be treated locally. The applications need to be partitioned to differentiate between remote and local codes. In this paper, an agent-based multistage graph partitioning (ABMP) scheme is proposed. The framework of the scheme is based on three-tier architecture that includes mobile, cloudlet, and cloud for the execution of application tasks. The main goal is to provide an efficient partitioning and offloading scheme in the mobile cloud computing area. The results show that incorporating both agent-based multistage graph partitioning and offloading algorithms yields superior performance as compared to previous methods in terms of reducing execution costs and conserving battery life for mobile devices. © The Author(s) 2024.
