In this paper, we present a novel method for recognizing human actions in videos. The method applies the human pose based features to describe actions and models the conditional probability relationship between feature sequences and actions using hidden conditional random field (HCRF). Given a video, limb masks are extracted by clustering image features in human region. Limb masks are helpful to reduce the interference from background and partially address the "double-counting" problem during the pose estimation. Then, the extracted pose sequence is smoothed using the kalman smooth to remove the noise and make the pose sequence consistent. Multiple kinds of feature sequences based on poses are extracted to describe the information of actions from different views. We train one HCRF for each feature sequence and combine the confidence from different HCRFs to improve the recognition accuracy. Experiments on the benchmark dataset show different features have their own advantages in action recognition and combine them can reach a good result. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper addresses the problem of H∞ fuzzy observer-based non-PDC controller design for uncertain T-S fuzzy systems with external disturbances. The synthesis of the observer-based controller is based on a fuzzy Lyapunov function and the descriptor redundancy approach. Moreover, the design is extended for the problem with control constraint. The observer and controller gains are obtained by solving some strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The validity of the proposed method is shown via a numerical example. © 2012 IEEE.

To enhance classification performance by making use of easily availab.e unlab.lled data to overcome the scarcity of lab.lled data, this paper proposes an Embedded Co-Adaboost algorithm that integrates multi-view learning into the Adaboost learning framework and at the same time leverages the advantages of Co-training algorithm for performance enhancement. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of the convergence rate, the accuracy, and the steady performance as compared to the original AdaBoost algorithm, without relying on redundant and sufficient feature sets. As a algorithm application in software engineering, the Embedded Co-AdaBoost has been applied to the classification of software document relations to improve the quality of the architecture design documents and the reusability of design knowledge. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we present an approach towards autonomous grasping of objects according to their category and a given task. Recent advances in the field of object segmentation and categorization as well as task-based grasp inference have been leveraged by integrating them into one pipeline. This allows us to transfer task-specific grasp experience between objects of the same category. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated on the humanoid robot ARMAR-IIIa. © 2012 IFAC.

This paper presents a new method to analyze system behavior. A software system is modeled by a Petri net, and then the Petri net is sliced into several parts based on T-invariant. It has been shown that the behavior of the slices is equivalent to the behavior of the original Petri net. Thus we can analyze the system behaviors by checking each slice. With this method, state space explosion problem in the static analysis can be solved to some extent. The Dining Philosophy problem has been used to demonstrate the benefit of our method. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Utility services provided by cloud computing rely on virtual customer communities forming spontaneously and evolving continuously. Clarifying the explicit boundaries of these communities is thus essential to the quality of utility services in cloud computing. Communities with overlapping features or prominent peripheral vertexes are usually typical irregular communities. Traditional community identification algorithms are limited in discovering irregular topological structures from CR networks, whereas these irregular shapes typically play an important role in finding prominent customers which are ignored in social CRM otherwise. We present a novel method of discovering irregular communities. It firstly finds and merges primitive maximal cliques and the irregular features of overlapping and prominent sparse vertices are further considered. An empirical case and a methodology comparison confirm the feasibility and efficiency of our approach. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Recently biosensors based on silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (SiNW-FETs) have drawn huge amounts of attention, due to their ultrasensitivity, selectivity, lab.l-free and real-time detection abilities. As people know more and more knowledge of the structure and function of nucleic acid molecules, DNA detection has gained importance increasingly. Here, we briefly summarize major fabrication methods in synthesising SiNW-FETs and selectively describe some applications of SiNW-FET biosensors in DNA detection over the past few years. Some key results from each article are summarized, involving the concept and mechanism behind each sensor, with the aim of stimulating more efforts in developing SiNW-FET biosensors for detecting DNA. © 2012 Crown Copyright.

The electrical characteristic test of nanowires is important in nano-materials research. The metal-semiconductor junction that is fabricated with semiconductor nanowire and metal probe in electrical test system has impact on the test result directly, therefore it's necessary to study I-V characteristics of the metal-semiconductor(M-S) junction. Si,ZnO,GaN have been selected from multiple semiconductor materials. When they connected with tungsten probe, all of them formed Schottky barriers, but the relationships between current and voltage of the junctions are distinct. In the thesis, I-V curves of these M-S junctions are compared, and the best electrical performance of M-S junction is selected. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper introduces a design method and a hardware circuit of burglar alarm circuit based on the magnetic field sensor, which can be used to achieve the protection of valuables. The circuit design is ingenious, and has the characteristics of simple structure, light weight, small size, timeliness, high sensitivity and low cost. It has been proved to have a stable and reliable performance by experiment. © 2012 IEEE.

Distributed multi-agent Q-learning for joint channel allocation and power control in cognitive radio networks

This paper deals with the resource allocation in completely distributed cognitive radio network. We propose a form of real-time multi-agent distributed reinforcement learning, which is known as Q-learning, to allow the cognitive radio to predict its transmit power and channel, in order for achieving a high quality of service without affecting the primary users. Simulation results reveal that the proposed approach is able to significantly reduce the interference to the licensed users while maintaining a high probability of successful transmission in a cognitive radio ad-hoc network. © 2012 Binary Information Press.
