In this paper, we present a novel color-mood-aware technique to re-texture clothing in a photograph. An efficient classification algorithm is developed to classify clothing textures using color mood scheme. To re-texture the clothing, our approach first computes the gradient maps for the cloth region to be replaced and then calculates the texture distortion coordinates on the projected cloth region according to the gradient maps. After the user selects a target clothing texture from the classified clothing texture database, the lighting and shading effects on the original photograph is transferred using the HSV color space. Experimental results show that the proposed approach successfully re-textures the clothes in photographs while preserving the geometry and lighting features. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper proposes a new control algorithm for automatic seabed tracking performed by a low cost autonomous underwater vehicle subject to the fact that the seabed profile is not known in advance. The control design amounts to cast the problem in the framework of nonlinear output regulation theory combined with pseudo-spectral methods to approximate the solutions of the regulator equations. To this end, the seabed tracking problem is re-formulated as a trajectory tracking problem and the reference signal is constructed using Fourier series to approximate the seabed profiles. An interesting feature of this approach is that the combination of the Fourier series with output regulation problem allows to bypass the need to compute explicitly the Fourier coefficients. Stability analysis and simulation results with real seabed data show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In this paper, continuous-time H2 and H∞ control techniques for a flexible transmission system are presented. This system has two very oscillatory vibration modes subjected to large load variation, which makes the control of it be difficult. A set of design specification in time domain is to be met by a single controller on each of the three main plant models. Furthermore, the tracking problem in the presence of disturbance and load variation is investigated. Finally, the simulation results for H 2 and H∞ controllers for three different loadings are given and compared. The simulation results show the good performance of the proposed controllers. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper addresses robust stability of genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with stochastic perturbation and discrete and distributed time-varying delays. Aside from discrete delays, there are few results about stability of GRNs with distributed delay. In this paper, noise perturbation and delays have been considered in both mRNA and protein dynamics. Based on Lyapunov functional approach and linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques, sufficient conditions are established to guarantee the robust stability of genetic regulatory networks. Stability conditions are derived in the form of LMIs, which are very easy to be verified. An example is presented to verify the theoretical results. © 2010 IEEE.

Aiming at reading data automatically with digital level, the localization principles of reading data automatically with digital level based on double sinusoidal code ruler are studied. Firstly, The edge position of bar code on ruler is detected with wavelet transform. Secondly, The phase difference of double sinusoidal code is calculated with Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT). Finally, Based on the one to one corresponding relationship of the phase difference and the position on ruler, the line of sight height is obtained. The experiment results indicate that the measurement algorithm is feasible. ©2010 IEEE.

Tension control system for spin-draw-winder used in vacuum coating

A novel technique has been successfully developed to automatically control the membrane tension induced by the spin-draw-winder used in vacuum coating on polymer materials on industrial scale. First, the realistic tension of different sheet materials was modeled and simulated;next, the major impacts on tension were analyzed, and finally, an indirect tension control algorithm was developed. On the basis of the simulation, a dedicated tension control system was designed, constructed and tested, which turns out to be capable of setting up and control of the sheet tension. The tension control unit was repeatedly tested in vacuum coating on a variety of plastic materials with satisfactory results. Its strengths include easy operation, simple structure, high control precision, fast response, and good stability.

The Topic Models are a class of hierarchical statistical models for analyzing document collections and it has become one of the most used techniques in Natural Language Processing in the recent years. It assumes that each document could be expressed as a mixture of topics and each topic could be characterized by a distribution over words. In previous research [6], like in English language, Topic Models for Chinese Language use the words as observing data. In this research, we demonstrated the effectiveness of using Chinese characters as the basic units of observing data. The comparisons with those models based on Chinese words and English words are presented. © 2010 IEEE.

The prediction of gene function from genome sequences is one of the main issues in Bioinformatics. Most computational approaches are based on the similarity between sequences to infer gene function. However, the availab.lity of several fully sequenced genomes has enabled alternative approaches, such as phylogenetic profiles. Phylogenetic profiles are vectors which indicate the presence or absence of a gene in other genomes. The main concept of phylogenetic profiles is that proteins participating in a common structural complex or metabolic pathway are likely to evolve in a correlated fashion. In this paper, a multi level clustering algorithm of phylogenetic profiles is presented, which aims to detect inter- and intragenome gene clusters. © 2010 IEEE.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) presented the 2010 Fall Symposium Series on November 11-13, 2010. The eight symposia included Cognitive and Metacognitive Educational Systems, Commonsense Knowledge, Complex Adaptive Systems: Resilience, Robustness, and Evolvability, Computational Models of Narrative, Dialog with Robots, Manifold Learning and Its Applications, Proactive Assistant Agents and Quantum Informatics for Cognitive, Social, and Semantic Processes. Cognitive and Metacognitive Educational Systems aimed to provide a comprehensive definition of metacognitive educational systems that is inclusive of the theoretical, architectural, and educational aspects of this field. The AAAI Commonsense Knowledge Fall Symposium had the goal of bringing together the diverse elements of this community whose work benefits from or contributes to the representation of general knowledge about the world. One of the specific goals of Proactive symposium was to gather the researchers from various projects in assistant agents to share their wisdom in retrospect.

One fundamental problem in services computing is how to bridge the gap between business requirements and various heterogeneous IT services. This involves eliciting business requirements and building a solution accordingly by reusing availab.e services. While the business requirements are commonly elicited through use cases and scenarios, it is not straightforward to transform the use case model into a service model, and the existing manual approach is cumbersome and error-prone. In this paper, the environment ontology, which is used to model the problem space, is utilized to facilitate the model transformation process. The environment ontology provides a common understanding between business analysts and software engineers. The required software functionalities as well as the availab.e services' capabilities are described using this ontology. By semi-automatically matching the required capability of each use case to the availab.e capabilities provides by services, a use case is realized by that set of services. At the end of this paper, a fictitious case study was used to illustrate how this approach works. © 2010 IEEE.
