We propose a new technique named 2-Thumbs Typing (2TT) enabling text entry with a touchpad in HTC VIVE controller using two thumbs. 2TT method works similarly with bimanual handwriting input but using new designed uni-stroke gestures considering only strokes' direction. We first design a set of gestures and improve them to finish the final design by a preliminary study through memory, performance efficiency and ease of use. The initial results show that the 2TT technique is easy and comfortable to use, no additional equipment required and supporting eyes-free entry. 2TT can reach 8.5 words per minute with extensive training.

As an effective and novel knowledge management technology, knowledge graph can provide a new way for the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). However, the construction of the knowledge graph of TCM is still mainly based on structured data at present. With the accumulation of literatures and electronic medical records, a large amount of knowledge is stored in unstructured texts which urgently needs to be extracted for learning. In this study, we extract TCM core concepts and build ontology layer by analyzing the process of TCM diagnosis and treatment. Then we use deep learning to extract entities and their relations for building TCM knowledge graph from unstructured data. Finally, we build an end-to-end platform TCMKG based on knowledge graph, which can provide functions such as knowledge retrieval, visualization and data management for helping the learning and sharing of TCM knowledge.

Distantly Supervised Relation Extraction via Recursive Hierarchy-Interactive Attention and Entity-Order Perception

Wrong-labeling problem and long-tail relations severely affect the performance of distantly supervised relation extraction task. Many studies mitigate the effect of wrong-labeling through selective attention mechanism and handle long-tail relations by introducing relation hierarchies to share knowledge. However, almost all existing studies ignore the fact that, in a sentence, the appearance order of two entities contributes to the understanding of its semantics. Furthermore, they only utilize each relation level of relation hierarchies separately, but do not exploit the heuristic effect between relation levels, i.e., higher-level relations can give useful information to the lower ones. Based on the above, in this paper, we design a novel Recursive Hierarchy-Interactive Attention network (RHIA) to further handle long-tail relations, which models the heuristic effect between relation levels. From the top down, it passes relation-related information layer by layer, which is the most significant difference from existing models, and generates relation-augmented sentence representations for each relation level in a recursive structure. Besides, we introduce a newfangled training objective, called Entity-Order Perception (EOP), to make the sentence encoder retain more entity appearance information. Substantial experiments on the popular New York Times (NYT) dataset are conducted. Compared to prior baselines, our RHIA-EOP achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of precision-recall (P-R) curves, AUC, Top-N precision and other evaluation metrics. In augmented reality, smart devices need to sense their own position in real physical space and complex scene structure to achieve good virtual reality interaction and three-dimensional registration. This paper proposes a technical framework of visual SLAM, which uses VO and BA methods based on feature points to obtain pose, and applies it to the augmented reality system to realize pose estimation, registration, tracking, collision and other effects of intelligent equipment independent of artificial or natural landmarks. © 2019 IEEE.

Introduction: Activity cliff (AC) is a phenomenon that a pair of similar molecules differ by a small structural alternation but exhibit a large difference in their biochemical activities. This phenomenon affects various tasks ranging from virtual screening to lead optimization in drug development. The AC of small molecules has been extensively investigated but limited knowledge is accumulated about the AC phenomenon in pharmaceutical peptides with canonical amino acids. Objectives: This study introduces a quantitative definition and benchmarking framework AMPCliff for the AC phenomenon in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) composed by canonical amino acids. Methods: This study establishes a benchmark dataset of paired AMPs in Staphylococcus aureus from the publicly available AMP dataset GRAMPA, and conducts a rigorous procedure to evaluate various AMP AC prediction models, including nine machine learning, four deep learning algorithms, four masked language models, and four generative language models. Results: A comprehensive analysis of the existing AMP dataset reveals a significant prevalence of AC within AMPs. AMPCliff quantifies the activities of AMPs by the metric minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and defines 0.9 as the minimum threshold for the normalized BLOSUM62 similarity score between a pair of aligned peptides with at least two-fold MIC changes. Our analysis reveals that these models are capable of detecting AMP AC events and the pre-trained protein language model ESM2 demonstrates superior performance across the evaluations. The predictive performance of AMP activity cliffs remains to be further improved, considering that ESM2 with 33 layers only achieves the Spearman correlation coefficient 0.4669 for the regression task of the −log(MIC) values on the benchmark dataset. While many Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms only use fitness to assess the performance of particles, in this work, we adopt Surprisingly Popular Algorithm (SPA) as a complementary metric in addition to fitness. Consequently, particles that are not widely known also have the opportunity to be selected as the learning exemplars. In addition, we propose a Euclidean distance-based adaptive topology to cooperate with SPA, where each particle only connects to k number of particles with the shortest Euclidean distance during each iteration. We also introduce the adaptive topology into heterogeneous populations to better solve large-scale problems. Specifically, the exploration sub-population better preserves the diversity of the population while the exploitation sub-population achieves fast convergence. Therefore, large-scale problems can be solved in a collaborative manner to elevate the overall performance. To evaluate the performance of our method, we conduct extensive experiments on various optimization problems, including three benchmark suites and two real-world optimization problems. The results demonstrate that our Euclidean distance-based adaptive topology outperforms the other widely adopted topologies and further suggest that our method performs significantly better than state-of-the-art PSO variants on small, medium, and large-scale problems. This paper presents an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pose estimation system based on monocular simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) guided by the desired shot. The system enables UAV to automatically adjust the pose to achieve a shot close to the desired shot provided by the user. The SLAM module in the system includes ORB feature-based visual odometry and Levenberg-Marquardt method-based optimizer. To ensure the reliability of the camera pose estimation result, the bag of words model is used to select an image which has enough good matches with the desired shot. The experimental results prove that the system is valid and effective. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, we design a hybrid (semi-direct) approach to simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for monocular cameras and apply it to augmented reality (AR) for monocular cameras. We combine the advantagesof the direct method and the feature point method. We use both photometric bundle adjustment which is robust to camera exposure time and motion bundle adjustment which is geometrically robust based on feature points to do tracking process. This approach can maintain an intuitive direct local map as well as a reusable global sparse feature point map. Through the processing of point clouds, such as PCA plane detection and grid reconstruction, we greatly improve the effect of the augmented reality system.
