Maintaining Generalized Arc Consistency (GAC) during search is considered an efficient way to solve non-binary constraint satisfaction problems. Bit-based representations have been used effectively in Arc Consistency algorithms. We propose STRbit, a GAC algorithm, based on simple tabular reduction (STR) using an efficient bit vector support data structure. STRbit is extended to deal with compression of the underlying constraint with c-tuples. Experimental evaluation show our algorithms are faster than many algorithms (STR2, STR2-C, STR3, STR3-C and MDDc) across a variety of benchmarks except for problems with small tables where complex data structures do not payoff.

In order to distinguish and extract the topic information from other interferential information on the BBC news website for the study in social computing, the BBC News Hunter was proposed in this paper. The whole system consists of 6 subsystems, respectively named: UI, Control, Download, Analysis, Storage and Log. Numerical experiments show that satisfactory results can be obtained from the BBC news website, whose average accuracy as well as efficiency are acceptable. © Springer Science+Business Media Singapore 2016.

The main objective of the Offshore Code Comparison Collaboration Continuation, with Correlation (OC5) project, is validation of aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulation tools for offshore wind turbines (OWTs) through comparison of simulated results to the response data of physical systems. Phase III of the OC5 project analyzes the Senvion 5M wind turbine supported by the OWEC Quattropod from the alpha ventus offshore wind farm. This paper shows results of the verification of the OWT models (code-to-code comparison). A subsequent publication will focus on their validation (comparison of simulated results to measured physical system response data). Based on the available data, the participants of Phase III set up numerical models of the OWT in their simulation tools. It was necessary to verify and to tune these models. The verification and tuning were performed against an OWT model available at the University of Stuttgart - Stuttgart Wind Energy (SWE) and documentation provided by Senvion and OWEC Tower. A very good match was achieved between the results from the reference SWE model and models set up by OC5 Phase III participants. © Copyright 2018 ASME.

Although at present a lot of big data use the ways of column store, traditional row store is still the mainstream storage way of relational database management system. There is no universal transformation tool facing of the requirements which column stored be transform into row store in heterogeneous database integration systems. The transpose mapping table of column store to row store, data extraction process based on this mapping table, corresponding transposing algorithm are researched and the effectiveness of these key technologies are verified through examples and implementation in this paper. This result is suitable to data extraction from column store to row store for different source table to destination table. Any prerequisites need not be set to the table structure and the type of database of source table and destination table in this research. Therefore, this result possess good generality and compatibility to heterogeneous data sources.

The ongoing research and development in the field of Natural Language Processing has lead to a great number of technologies in its context. There have been major benefits when it comes to bringing together the worlds of natural language and semantic technologies, so more and more potential areas of application emerge. One of these is the subject of this paper, in particular the possible ways of knowledge extraction from single-question online polls. With concepts of the Social Web, internet users want to contribute and express their opinion. As a consequence, the popularity of online polls is rapidly increasing;they can be found in news articles of media sites, on blogs etc. It would be desirable to bring intelligence to the application of polls by using technologies of the Semantic Web and Natural Language Processing as this would allow to build a great knowledge base and to draw conclusions from it. This paper surveys the current landscape of tools and state-of-the-art technologies and analyses them with regard to pre-defined requirements that need to be accomplished, in order to be useful for extracting knowledge from the results generated by online polls. © 2016 ACM.

A minimum cover set coverage algorithm（MCSCA） for pursuing low energy is presented in this paper to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. The proposed algorithm improves energy efficiency in three aspects. First, when generating cover sets, the selection strategy of the algorithm considers the contributions of sensor nodes, energy variance, and other factors. The algorithm can cover all targets with a few sensor nodes. Second, useless coverage optimization reduces coverage areas without target nodes to save energy. Third, redundant coverage optimization further saves energy by reducing redundant coverage in wireless sensor networks. Compared with similar heuristic algorithms, the proposed MCSCA can extend network lifetime by 11% on average.

The volume of RDF data increases dramatically within recent years, while cloud computing platforms like Hadoop are supposed to be a good choice for processing queries over huge data sets for their wonderful scalability. Previous work on evaluating SPARQL queries with Hadoop mainly focus on reducing the number of joins through careful split of HDFS files and algorithms for generating Map/Reduce jobs. However, the way of partitioning RDF data could also affect system performance. Specifically, a good partitioning solution would greatly reduce or even to- tally avoid cross-node joins, and significantly cut down the cost in query evaluation. Based on HadoopDB, this work processes SPARQL queries in a hybrid architecture, where Map/Reduce takes charge of the computing tasks, and RDF query engines like RDF-3X store the data and execute join operations. According to the analysis of query workloads, this work proposes a novel algorithm for automatically parti- tioning RDF data and an approximate solution to physically place the partitions in order to reduce data redundancy. It also discusses how to make a good trade-off between query evaluation efficiency and data redundancy. All of these pro- posed approaches have been evaluated by extensive experiments over large RDF data sets.

The Improved Characteristics of Bionic Gabor Representations by Combining with SIFT Key-points for Iris Recognition

Gabor filters are generally regarded as the most bionic filters corresponding to the visual perception of human. Their filtered coefficients thus are widely utilized to represent the texture information of irises. However, these wavelet-based iris representations are inevitably being misaligned in iris matching stage. In this paper, we try to improve the characteristics of bionic Gabor representations of each iris via combining the local Gabor features and the key-point descriptors of Scale Invariant Feature Transformation （SIFT）, which respectively simulate the process of visual object class recognition in frequency and spatial domains. A localized approach of Gabor features is used to avoid the blocking effect in the process of image division, meanwhile a SIFT key point selection strategy is provided to remove the noises and probable misaligned key points. For the combination of these iris features, we propose a support vector regression based fusion rule, which may fuse their matching scores to a scalar score to make classification decision. The experiments on three public and self-developed iris datasets validate the discriminative ability of our multiple bionic iris features, and also demonstrate that the fusion system outperforms some state-of-the-art methods.

Locating the source of diffusion is a challenging problem in complex networks and has great practical significance for restraining rumors propagation and controlling epidemics spreading. An efficient locating method should have a higher locating accuracy with the minimum required information. Although existing locating methods based on observers consider the time delays of edges, they compute the time delays based on the shortest path, which may differ from the actual diffusion process. Moreover, the higher locating accuracy of traditional method with observers has a great dependence on the assumption that the propagation delays along edges follow a definite distribution such as the Gaussian distribution. In order to solve these shortcomings, this paper proposes a Physarum-inspired method to locate the diffusion source that is independence of the distribution of propagation delays. Our method quantifies the nutrient transportation process in the adaptive network evolved by Physarum, which is used to simulate the information or epidemic diffusion routes in a social network. Simulation results on various benchmark networks show that our method has a better performance in terms of error distance than that of Gaussian method without assuming the definite distribution of time delays. Together with the advantage that our method does not require the sender information of observers compared with existing methods, our method allows for a wider range of applications in the real-world networks.
