Rendering service, which typically orchestrates screen display and UI through Vertical Synchronization (VSync), is an indispensable system service for user experiences of smartphone OSes (e.g., Android, OpenHarmony, and iOS). The recent trend of large high-frame-rate screens, stunning visual effects, and physics-based animations has placed unprecedented pressure on the VSync-based rendering architecture, leading to higher frame drops and longer rendering latency. This paper proposes Decoupled Vertical Synchronization (D-VSync), which decouples execution and displaying in the rendering service. D-VSync allows frames to be rendered a number of VSync periods before being physically displayed on the screen. The key insight behind D-VSync to resolve the limitation of VSync is that, the decoupling enables sporadic long frames to utilize the computational power saved by common short frames, therefore providing a larger time window to tolerate workload fluctuations. Evaluation results of 75 common OS use cases and apps on OpenHarmony (Mate 40 Pro, Mate 60 Pro), 25 popular apps on Android (Google Pixel 5), and simulations of 15 mobile games show that compared to VSync, D-VSync on average reduces frame drops by 72.7%, user-perceptible stutters by 72.3%, and rendering latency by 31.1%, with only 0.13%-0.37% more power consumption. D-VSync has been integrated into HarmonyOS NEXT. © 2025 ACM.

Traditional unlearnable strategies have been proposed to prevent unauthorized users from training on the 2D image data. With more 3D point cloud data containing sensitivity information, unauthorized usage of this new type data has also become a serious concern. To address this, we propose the first integral unlearnable framework for 3D point clouds including two processes: (i) we propose an unlearnable data protection scheme, involving a class-wise setting established by a category-adaptive allocation strategy and multi-transformations assigned to samples;(ii) we propose a data restoration scheme that utilizes class-wise inverse matrix transformation, thus enabling authorized-only training for unlearnable data. This restoration process is a practical issue overlooked in most existing unlearnable literature, i.e., even authorized users struggle to gain knowledge from 3D unlearnable data. Both theoretical and empirical results (including 6 datasets, 16 models, and 2 tasks) demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed unlearnable framework. Segment Anything Model (SAM) has recently gained much attention for its outstanding generalization to unseen data and tasks. Despite its promising prospect, the vulnerabilities of SAM, especially to universal adversarial perturbation (UAP) have not been thoroughly investigated yet. In this paper, we propose DarkSAM, the first prompt-free universal attack framework against SAM, including a semantic decoupling-based spatial attack and a texture distortion-based frequency attack. We first divide the output of SAM into foreground and background. Then, we design a shadow target strategy to obtain the semantic blueprint of the image as the attack target. DarkSAM is dedicated to fooling SAM by extracting and destroying crucial object features from images in both spatial and frequency domains. In the spatial domain, we disrupt the semantics of both the foreground and background in the image to confuse SAM. In the frequency domain, we further enhance the attack effectiveness by distorting the high-frequency components (i.e., texture information) of the image. Consequently, with a single UAP, DarkSAM renders SAM incapable of segmenting objects across diverse images with varying prompts. Experimental results on four datasets for SAM and its two variant models demonstrate the powerful attack capability and transferability of DarkSAM. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, a wide variety of deep learning models have emerged across various fields. Nevertheless, the quality of these models varies significantly, making the effective evaluation of model performance a pressing issue. In some open data competitions, remote evaluation based on Docker images has increasingly become a novel and reliable approach, providing a consistent environment to ensure the fairness of model evaluations. However, it imposes high demands on hardware resources, typically requiring dedicated resources for each participant to serve as Docker Registries for the pushing and management of Docker images. In this paper, we extend the load balancing module of the Nginx server by integrating Lua scripts and propose a Cache-based Dynamic Smooth Weighted Round-robin (CDSWRR) algorithm to optimize the pushing process of Docker images. By constructing a unified load balancing entry, the proposed approach simplifies the deployment of Docker Registry clusters. Experiments show that compared to weighted round-robin and IP hash algorithms of Nginx, the CDSWRR algorithm is able to ensure stable pushing of Docker images and reduce both response error rate and response time. © 2024 IEEE.

A distributed fault-tolerant formation control law is designed in this paper for multi-agent systems under external disturbances and actuator faults including time-varying loss of effectiveness faults. The initial position of each agent is already on a circle and the control purpose is to form a desired formation on this circle. Based on this local information, a distributed adaptive formation control law is designed by employing the congelation of variables method to deal with time-varying actuator faults. Elastic scaling in response to changes on demand is a main benefit of serverless computing. When bursty workloads arrive, a serverless platform launches many new containers and initializes function environments (known as cold starts), which incurs significant startup latency. To reduce cold starts, platforms usually pause a container after it serves a request, and reuse this container for subsequent requests. However, this reuse strategy cannot efficiently reduce cold starts because the schedulers are agnostic of container lifecycle. For example, it may ignore soon available containers or evict soon needed containers. We propose a container lifecycle-aware scheduling strategy for serverless computing, CAS. The key idea is to control distribution of requests and determine creation or eviction of containers according to different lifecycle phases of containers. We implement a prototype of CAS on OpenWhisk. Our evaluation shows that CAS reduces 81% cold starts and therefore brings a 63% reduction at 95th percentile latency compared with native scheduling strategy in OpenWhisk when there is worker contention between workloads, and does not add significant performance overhead. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
