Page Rank has been widely used in ranking retrieval results on the web, finding the top influential papers in citation networks or detecting valuable users in online social networks. However, in practice, it is usually hard to obtain a complete structure of any above networks to rank nodes. Thus, some researchers have begun to explore how to get estimated ranks efficiently without acquiring the whole network. They have proposed some approximating methods, however, it is difficult to determine which method is the best one or which is suitable to a certain application. In this case, we set experiments in small-world and scale-free generated networks to certify the feasibility and characteristics of four approximating methods. We also use eleven real networks to mention different optimal conditions for these methods. We find the DIG Rank method performs better than other local estimation methods in almost every given sub graph. Besides, Mean field approach method tends to perform well in networks that have low average shortest path length, small amount of nodes with the same low in degree, or weak community structure. Finally, we apply the most versatile method DIG Rank to Sina micro-blog website to precisely classify users in a group as elites, grassroots or mummy users.

As an emerging portable service platform, OSGi is now taking a more and more important role in Ubiquitous Computing environment. As a module management framework, OSGi provides the functions of dynamic loading and unloading software modules at runtime. But its use is limited because it is centralized and single programming language supported. In this paper we present LIR-OSGi, an extended framework of OSGi, which is designed to add the distribution and programming language independence to OSGi. Meanwhile it is easy to use for developers because of the transparence of service invocation and automation of distribution. Not like OSGi which can be applied only on the Java platform, LIR-OSGi makes programs which may be written in different programming languages be able to call each other transparently so that it can be applied in many different platforms such as DotNet Framework and so on. This brings much convenience to the program development in a distributed and heterogeneous environment.

In order to verify the correctness of PLC programs by formal methods, the definition of denotational semantics on PLC program language was studied to achieve PLC programs modeling and model checking. Based on the extended λ-calculus definition, the configuration of PLC program architecture, denotational semantics of PLC programs and functions of denotational semantics were defined, which proves the basis of model checking and theorem.

Position location in three-dimensional (3-D) scenarios is studied in bearing-only location system. Through mathematical calculation in 2-D scenarios, the relationship between location accuracy and observation geometry is discussed, and the optimal location geometry relationship and the lowest GDOP in the whole observation region are presented. Finally, the relationship between GDOP and the bearing measurements of passive sensors is shown in the simulation results. GDOP distribute figures under various observation geometry condition are plotted. Some conclusions can be used for reference in designing passive location constellations and collocating passive sensors to improve location accuracy. ©2010 IEEE.

Hyperspectral unmixing is a crucial preprocessing step for material classification and recognition. In the last decade, nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) and its extensions have been intensively studied to unmix hyperspectral imagery and recover the material end-members. As an important constraint, sparsity has been modeled making use of L1 or L 2 regularizers. However, the full additivity constraint of material abundances is often overlooked, hence, limiting the practical efficacy of these methods. In this paper, we extend the NMF algorithm by incorporating the L 1/2 sparsity constraint. The L1/2-NMF provides more sparse and accurate results than the other regularizers by considering the end-member additivity constraint explicitly in the optimisation process. Experiments on the synthetic and real hyperspectral data validate the proposed algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

Creating an applicable and precise failure prediction system is highly desirable for decision makers and regulators in the finance industry. This study develops a new Failure Prediction (FP) approach which effectively integrates a fuzzy logic-based adaptive inference system with the learning ability of a neural network to generate knowledge in the form of a fuzzy rule base. This FP approach uses a preprocessing phase to deal with the imbalanced data-sets problem and develops a new Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) including an adaptive inference system in the learning algorithm along with its network structure and rule generation algorithm as a means to reduce prediction error in the FP approach.

Theoretical mean-variance relationship of IP network traffic based on ON/OFF model

Mean-variance relationship （MVR）, nowadays agreed in power law form, is an important function. It is currently used by traffic matrix estimation as a basic statistical assumption. Because all the existing papers obtain MVR only through empirical ways, they cannot provide theoretical support to power law MVR or the definition of its power exponent. Furthermore, because of the lack of theoretical model, all traffic matrix estimation methods based on MVR have not been theoretically supported yet. By observing both our laboratory and campus network for more than one year, we find that such an empirical MVR is not sufficient to describe actual network traffic. In this paper, we derive a theoretical MVR from ON/OFF model. Then we prove that current empirical power law MVR is generally reasonable by the fact that it is an approximate form of theoretical MVR under specific precondition, which can theoretically support those traffic matrix estimation algorithms of using MVR. Through verifying our MVR by actual observation and public DECPKT traces, we verify that our theoretical MVR is valid and more capable of describing actual network traffic than power law MVR.

Network traffic generation has always been a hot spot in network measurement and simulation research. However, traditional methods of generating network traffic are either insufficient in fulfilling bandwidth requirement or matching the characteristics of a real network. In this paper we propose a platform of generating high bandwidth real-time network traffic with self-similarity characteristic. The high bandwidth real-time generating feature guarantees the feasibility and self-similarity characteristic makes the platform more reliable. In the platform, we choose Cavium OCTEON CN3860 as the core and implemented ON/OFF aggregation model in a discrete-event way. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated both by R/S statistics method and wavelet estimator. Although there are differences between two estimators in various kinds of conditions, the validation of the platform is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

ON/OFF aggregation model is one of the efficient and accurate models for self-similar network traffic generation. In this paper we propose and compare three algorithms of implementing ON/OFF aggregation model, based on Cavium OCTEON CN3860 network processor, aimed to achieve high-bandwidth and real-time network traffic generation. The model is implemented in a multi-thread approach, in a token-bucket approach and in a discrete-event approach. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated by wavelet estimator, and the validation of the last algorithm is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.
