Low-earth-orbit satellite constellation (e.g., Starlink) is becoming the indispensable component of future Internet. Due to the mobility nature, ground-satellite links (GSLs) and inter-satellite links (ISLs) are not as stable as the fiber links of wired Internet. Consequently, end-to-end TCP connections traversing the LEO constellation will suffer from packet loss and latency variation caused by GSL handover and ISL failure. However, typical congestion control algorithms (e.g., loss-based CUBIC and bandwidth-estimated BBR) rely on these feedbacks to detect congestion in wired Internet. This leads to performance degradation for CUBIC/BBR in LEO satellite networks. In this paper, we propose a Default-and-Backup Routing (DB-R) mechanism to enhance the performance of CUBIC/BBR in LEO satellite networks. Specifically, DB-R leverages default routing to address the packet loss caused by frequent GSL handover. Moreover, DB- R utilizes backup routing to eliminate the packet loss caused by occasional ISL failure. Overall, DB-R only incurs negligible control overhead, but can effectively improve the performance of CUBIC and BBR in LEO satellite networks. We implement DB-R in Linux kernel and evaluate its performance based on OpenSN (i.e., an open-source libarary for emulating LEO satellite networks). Results show that our DB-R mechanism can improve the average throughput of CUBIC (and BBR, respectively) by up to 37 % (and 18 %, respectively) compared with classic OSPF.

A study on the impact of pre-trained model on Just-In-Time defect prediction

Previous researchers conducting Just-In-Time (JIT) defect prediction tasks have primarily focused on the performance of individual pre-trained models, without exploring the relationship between different pre-trained models as backbones. In this study, we build six models: RoBERTaJIT, CodeBERTJIT, BARTJIT, PLBARTJIT, GPT2JIT, and CodeGPTJIT, each with a distinct pre-trained model as its backbone. We systematically explore the differences and connections between these models. Specifically, we investigate the performance of the models when using Commit code and Commit message as inputs, as well as the relationship between training efficiency and model distribution among these six models. Additionally, we conduct an ablation experiment to explore the sensitivity of each model to inputs. Furthermore, we investigate how the models perform in zero-shot and few-shot scenarios. Our findings indicate that each model based on different backbones shows improvements, and when the backbone’s pre-training model is similar, the training resources that need to be consumed are closer. We also observe that Commit code plays a significant role in defect detection, and different pre-trained models demonstrate better defect detection ability with a balanced dataset under few-shot scenarios. These results provide new insights for optimizing JIT defect prediction tasks using pre-trained models and highlight the factors that require more attention when constructing such models. Additionally, CodeGPTJIT and GPT2JIT achieved better performance than DeepJIT and CC2Vec on the two datasets respectively under 2000 training samples. These findings emphasize the effectiveness of transformer-based pre-trained models in JIT defect prediction tasks, especially in scenarios with limited training data. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Auction is efficient for spectrum allocation in future dynamic spectrum access networks. Truthful or strategy-proof auction is favorable since every bidder only needs to bid his true valuation and the auctioneer assigns spectra to bidders who value them most. Existing truthful spectrum auction schemes however either generate very low revenue for the auctioneer or need extra prior distribution information on the true valuation of bidders. Low revenue generation could discourage the auctioneers from leasing their spectra and it is usually hard to get prior information on bidders' true evaluations on the spectra. In this paper, we propose a class of truthful spectrum auction schemes which bring higher revenue for the spectrum owners and do not need any prior information at the same time. We present both theoretical and simulation results of our proposed auction schemes.

Spatiotemporal data mining plays an important role in air quality monitoring, crowd flow modeling, and climate forecasting. However, the originally collected spatiotemporal data in real-world scenarios is usually incomplete due to sensor failures or transmission loss. Spatiotemporal imputation aims to fill the missing values according to the observed values and the underlying spatiotemporal dependence of them. The previous dominant models impute missing values autoregressively and suffer from the problem of error accumulation. As emerging powerful generative models, the diffusion probabilistic models can be adopted to impute missing values conditioned by observations and avoid inferring missing values from inaccurate historical imputation. However, the construction and utilization of conditional information are inevitable challenges when applying diffusion models to spatiotemporal imputation. To address above issues, we propose a conditional diffusion framework for spatiotemporal imputation with enhanced prior modeling, named PriSTI. Our proposed framework provides a conditional feature extraction module first to extract the coarse yet effective spatiotemporal dependencies from conditional information as the global context prior. Then, a noise estimation module transforms random noise to realistic values, with the spatiotemporal attention weights calculated by the conditional feature, as well as the consideration of geographic relationships. PriSTI outperforms existing imputation methods in various missing patterns of different real-world spatiotemporal data, and effectively handles scenarios such as high missing rates and sensor failure. For monitoring the paste concentration, existing techniques, such as ultrasonic concentration meters and neutron meters, suffer from radiation hazards and low precision in high concentrations. This paper proposes a novel non-contact concentration measurement method based on deep learning. With the dataset collected by preparing the paste with different concentrations and taking photographs from the paste surface, a convolutional neural network is trained to extract the features from images and predict the concentration. The experiments indicate that the measurement accuracy is close to 88.79 % for the manual stirring paste dataset and 91.42 % for the automatic stirring paste dataset, which are sufficient in industrial applications. As a substitution of traditional concentration measurement instruments, the proposed vision-based concentration measurement method is non-contact and its accuracy is sufficient in industrial applications.

Gossip learning (GL), as a decentralized alternative to federated learning (FL), is more suitable for resource-constrained wireless networks, such as Flying Ad-Hoc Networks (FANETs) that are formed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). GL can significantly enhance the efficiency and extend the battery life of UAV networks. Despite the advantages, the performance of GL is strongly affected by data distribution, communication speed, and network connectivity. However, how these factors influence the GL convergence is still unclear. Existing work studied the convergence of GL based on a virtual quantity for the sake of convenience, which failed to reflect the real state of the network when some nodes are inaccessible. In this paper, we formulate and investigate the impact of inaccessible nodes to GL under a dynamic network topology. We first decompose the weight divergence by whether the node is accessible or not. Then, we investigate the GL convergence under the dynamic of node accessibility and theoretically provide how the number of inaccessible nodes, data non-i.i.d.-ness, and duration of inaccessibility affect the convergence. Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model’s capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid development of Internet technology derived out a massive network text data. Therefore, how to classify the massive text data efficiently has important theoretical significance and application value. In order to acquire accurate classification results, the process has been divided into two parts. In terms of text representation, this paper proposes an online field feature selection algorithm (OFFS algorithm) based on streaming data, which solves the problems of low efficiency and memory consumption of traditional feature selection algorithms. With improvements in the vector space model, the new algorithm can select the real-time feature of the data and quickly generate text vector. In the aspect of classifier design, an OFFS-BP neural network text classifier based on BP neutral network and OFFS algorithm is designed. It adapts to the distributed parallel computing, reduces the training time and balances the computation efficiency and classification accuracy. Finally based on the Spark platform, the OFFS-BP neural network classifier is implemented. The experimental results show that the OFFS-BP neural network classifier is more suitable for big data environment with less computation time and higher classification efficiency. © Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2018.

Increasing global energy consumption has become an urgent problem as natural energy sources such as oil,gas,and uranium are rapidly running *** into renewable energy sources such as solar energy is being pursued to counter *** energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources,as it has the potential to meet the world’s energy needs *** study aims to develop and evaluate artificial intelligence(AI)models for predicting hourly global *** hyperparameters were optimized using the Broyden-FletcherGoldfarb-Shanno(BFGS)quasi-Newton training algorithm and STATISTICA *** from two stations in Algeria with different climatic zones were used to develop the *** error measurements were used to determine the accuracy of the prediction models,including the correlation coefficient,the mean absolute error,and the root mean square error(RMSE).The optimal support vector machine(SVM)model showed exceptional efficiency during the training phase,with a high correlation coefficient(R=0.99)and a low mean absolute error(MAE=26.5741 Wh/m^(2)),as well as an RMSE of 38.7045 Wh/m^(2) across all ***,this study highlights the importance of accurate prediction models in the renewable energy,which can contribute to better energy management and planning.
