Delay tolerant networks may become unexpectedly partitioned due to node mobility or variation in signal strength. However, most widely used models in some relative works are generally very simplistic. In order to exploit intelligent forwarding algorithms, a novel nodal mobile model of delay tolerant networks is presented to map reality with more accuracy. And several approaches are introduced to analyze the network structure, such as n-cliques, n-clans, degree, closeness and betweenness. Our research results showed that the centralizations became smaller when the wireless connections were concerned. It meant that quite a number of nodes became potential relays because of the new structure of networks.

The number and diversity of researchers in the U.S. must increase significantly to support the demand for global leadership in research and computing. For more equitable representation in computing, there must be equitable access to graduate degrees and careers both academic and industrial in computing. However, there are barriers to the recruitment, retention, and persistence of racial/ethnic minoritized individuals in computer science due to racial inequities. With respect to Black students, these barriers are unique to their intersectional identities. HBCUs offer students a unique and rewarding experience including a familial community of support and understanding among faculty, students, and alumni. From 2015-2019, nearly 25% of Black STEM doctorate recipients earned a bachelor's degree from an HBCU and HBCUs produced 33% of the nation's Black computer scientists [1]. Thus, there are successful enculturation practices within STEM education at HBCUs [2] that lead to their students going onto terminal degrees. Through our funded NSF grants #2140867 & #210246, we proposed a knowledge transfer on Black student mentorship, research enculturation and social computing from two HBCUs (Howard University and Johnson C. Smith), to a PWI (University of North Carolina at Charlotte). Our goal is to democratize knowledge and the transfer of information by identifying and disseminating hidden curriculum that creates racial inequities that impede Black students' progress into graduate school. In this workshop we will disseminate our findings for developing Black undergraduate students' technical research ability but also holistically addressing the psychological and social challenges that they may face.

PCART: Automated Repair of Python API Parameter Compatibility Issues

In modern software development, Python third-party libraries play a critical role, especially in fields like deep learning and scientific computing. However, API parameters in these libraries often change during evolution, leading to compatibility issues for client applications reliant on specific versions. Python’s flexible parameter-passing mechanism further complicates this, as different passing methods can result in different API compatibility. Currently, no tool can automatically detect and repair Python API parameter compatibility issues. To fill this gap, we introduce PCART, the first solution to fully automate the process of API extraction, code instrumentation, API mapping establishment, compatibility assessment, repair, and validation. PCART handles various types of Python API parameter compatibility issues, including parameter addition, removal, renaming, reordering, and the conversion of positional to keyword parameters. To evaluate PCART, we construct PCBENCH, a large-scale benchmark comprising 47,478 test cases mutated from 844 parameter-changed APIs across 33 popular Python libraries. Evaluation results demonstrate that PCART is both effective and efficient, significantly outperforming existing tools (MLCatchUp and Relancer) and the large language model ChatGPT (GPT-4o), achieving an F1-score of 96.49% in detecting API parameter compatibility issues and a repair precision of 92.26%. Further evaluation on 30 real-world Python projects from GitHub confirms PCART’s practicality. We believe PCART can significantly reduce the time programmers spend maintaining Python API updates and advance the automation of Python API compatibility issue repair. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Diabetes Mellitus has no permanent cure to date and is one of the leading causes of death globally. The alarming increase in diabetes calls for the need to take precautionary measures to avoid/predict the occurrence of diabetes. This paper proposes HealthEdge, a machine learning-based smart healthcare framework for type 2 diabetes prediction in an integrated IoT-edge-cloud computing system. Numerical experiments and comparative analysis were carried out between the two most used machine learning algorithms in the literature, Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR), using two real-life diabetes datasets. The results show that RF predicts diabetes with 6% more accuracy on average compared to LR. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Hierarchical State Abstraction Based on Structural Information Principles

State abstraction optimizes decision-making by ignoring irrelevant environmental information in reinforcement learning with rich observations. Nevertheless, recent approaches focus on adequate representational capacities resulting in essential information loss, affecting their performances on challenging tasks. In this article, we propose a novel mathematical Structural Information principles-based State Abstraction framework, namely SISA, from the information-theoretic perspective. Specifically, an unsupervised, adaptive hierarchical state clustering method without requiring manual assistance is presented, and meanwhile, an optimal encoding tree is generated. On each non-root tree node, a new aggregation function and condition structural entropy are designed to achieve hierarchical state abstraction and compensate for sampling-induced essential information loss in state abstraction. Empirical evaluations on a visual gridworld domain and six continuous control benchmarks demonstrate that, compared with five SOTA state abstraction approaches, SISA significantly improves mean episode reward and sample efficiency up to 18.98 and 44.44%, respectively. Besides, we experimentally show that SISA is a general framework that can be flexibly integrated with different representation-learning objectives to improve their performances further. We present AircraftVerse, a publicly available aerial vehicle design dataset. Aircraft design encompasses different physics domains and, hence, multiple modalities of representation. The evaluation of these cyber-physical system (CPS) designs requires the use of scientific analytical and simulation models ranging from computer-aided design tools for structural and manufacturing analysis, computational fluid dynamics tools for drag and lift computation, battery models for energy estimation, and simulation models for flight control and dynamics. AircraftVerse contains 27, 714 diverse air vehicle designs - the largest corpus of engineering designs with this level of complexity. Each design comprises the following artifacts: a symbolic design tree describing topology, propulsion subsystem, battery subsystem, and other design details;a STandard for the Exchange of Product (STEP) model data;a 3D CAD design using a stereolithography (STL) file format;a 3D point cloud for the shape of the design;and evaluation results from high fidelity state-of-the-art physics models that characterize performance metrics such as maximum flight distance and hover-time. We also present baseline surrogate models that use different modalities of design representation to predict design performance metrics, which we provide as part of our dataset release. Finally, we discuss the potential impact of this dataset on the use of learning in aircraft design and, more generally, in CPS. AircraftVerse is accompanied by a data card, and it is released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. The problem of class imbalance has become a relevant topic in the field of machine learning, and there are several ways to solve this problem, including oversampling, undersampling, and hybrid algorithms. The HRBwSD algorithm proposed in the research belongs to the category of hybrid algorithms. The algorithm was created based on the RBU (Radial-Based Undersampling) and RBO (Radial-Based Oversampling) algorithms, which take into account the exclusion of duplicates and the preservation of the original class distribution. The results show that the model estimates obtained using the proposed algorithm were comparable to the estimates obtained using other class balancing algorithms. This confirms the importance of adapting algorithms to the specifics of the data to obtain more accurate and fair results.

This article supplies a proposed approach Neuro Fuzzy Controller (NFC)-Adaptive Backstepping Controller (ABC)-Space Vector Modulation (SVM) for a five-level NPC inverter-Double Stator Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (DSIPMSM). This paper’s primary objective is to enhance DSIPMSM’s performance by the use of strong control using the proposed approach. Given its benefits—including high torque density, high efficiency, high power density, and minimal maintenance—DSIPMSM, have recently been the focus of much research. Using the input-output linearization approach and Lyapunov stability theory, asymptotically stable trajectory-following dynamics are demonstrated using nonlinear adaptive backstepping control. The use of fuzzy logic and intelligence-based controllers are increasingly being used to enhance traditional control’s performance and output. In addition, the fuzzy logic controller has a lot of flaws that are presently being fixed by the extremely effective NFC tool. The proposed method’s worth was demonstrated by the simulation results in terms of durability, effective tracking dynamics, precision, and good disturbance rejection with little ripple.

Due to the increasing importance of complex systems, the problems of modelling and simulation (M&S) of these systems, their approaches and solutions have been studied extensively these last years. In this paper, we present a novel approach to modelling and simulation of discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS), based on the combination of discrete event systems specification (DEVS) and agent group role (AGR). In this study, the DEVS atomic models are transformed into agents and the DEVS coupled models into groups of agents. Thus, we provide a set of procedures and functions that allow the systematic transformation from DEVS into AGR models in order to be implemented in multi-agent platforms. The emerging large-scale low earth orbit (LEO) constellation is expected to provide global Internet services. However, large-scale satellite networks meet the challenges of topology dynamics and continuous traffic variation. This paper proposes LoHi, a Load-aware Hierarchical Information-centric (LoHi) Routing Protocol based on constellation Partitioning and logic path identifier (PID), to address the above challenges. Specifically, LoHi divides a constellation into satellite groups and only keeps track of the inter-satellite link (ISL) state within each group instead of the entire constellation, stabilizing global routing. Moreover, LoHi adopts the PID to denote the logic connectivity of adjacent satellite groups, which corresponds to multiple physical ISLs. Accordingly, the hierarchical multipath routing is calculated based on the inner-group and inter-group connectivity information. Furthermore, LoHi adjusts forwarding decisions according to the real-time traffic load on the ISL and group-level inter-group paths to reduce packet drop and queuing delay in a hierarchical pattern. Packet-level experiment results show that LoHi achieves a higher packet delivery ratio than the state-of-the-art mechanisms (up to 132.12%).
