This paper is concerned with tensor clustering with the assistance of dimensionality reduction approaches. A class of formulation for tensor clustering is introduced based on tensor Tucker decomposition models. In this formulation, an extra tensor mode is formed by a collection of tensors of the same dimensions and then used to assist a Tucker decomposition in order to achieve data dimensionality reduction. We design two types of clustering models for the tensors: PCA Tensor Clustering model and Non-negative Tensor Clustering model, by utilizing different regularizations. The tensor clustering can thus be solved by the optimization method based on the alternative coordinate scheme. Interestingly, our experiments show that the proposed models yield comparable or even better performance compared to most recent clustering algorithms based on matrix factorization.

Botnets have become one of the most solemn threats to Internet security. Botnets comprises over a network of infected nodes known as ‘bot’. Bots are controlled by human operators (botmasters). Random nature of Peerto-Peer botnets has influenced sinkhole researchers to compromise over occupation of hunted command and control in a complex manner and due to variable nature of action, they are often good deserters. In this paper, we present a design of an advanced hyper-efficient mechanism which has the ability to pursue Peerto-Peer randomized botnets. It provides capacity to detain targeted sinkholes and identify arbitrary execution of contagion in infected nodes. In the end, method acquires the composition of different cubic formations for proper lookup of random natured Peer-to-Peer botnets. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Context Parametric cost estimation models need to be continuously calibrated and improved to assure more accurate software estimates and reflect changing software development contexts. Local calibration by tuning a subset of model parameters is a frequent practice when software organizations adopt parametric estimation models to increase model usability and accuracy. However, there is a lack of understanding about the cumulative effects of such local calibration practices on the evolution of general parametric models over time. Objective This study aims at quantitatively analyzing and effectively handling local bias associated with historical cross-company data, thus improves the usability of cross-company datasets for calibrating and maintaining parametric estimation models. Method We design and conduct three empirical studies to measure, analyze and address local bias in cross-company dataset, including: (1) defining a method for measuring the local bias associated with individual organization data subset in the overall dataset;(2) analyzing the impacts of local bias on the performance of an estimation model;(3) proposing a weighted sampling approach to handle local bias. The studies are conducted on the latest COCOMO II calibration dataset. Results Our results show that the local bias largely exists in cross company dataset, and the local bias negatively impacts the performance of parametric model. The local bias based weighted sampling technique helps reduce negative impacts of local bias on model performance. Conclusion Local bias in cross-company data does harm model calibration and adds noisy factors to model maintenance. The proposed local bias measure offers a means to quantify degree of local bias associated with a cross-company dataset, and assess its influence on parametric model performance. Mobile phones are quickly becoming the primary source for social, behavioral, and environmental sensing and data collection. Today's smartphones are equipped with increasingly more sensors and accessible data types that enable the collection of literally dozens of signals related to the phone, its user, and its environment. A great deal of research effort in academia and industry is put into mining this raw data for higher level sense-making, such as understanding user context, inferring social networks, learning individual features, and behavior prediction. In this work we investigate the properties of learning and inferences of real world data collected via mobile phones. In particular, we look at the dynamic learning process over time with various sizes of sampling groups and examine the interplay between these two parameters. We validate our model using extensive simulations carried out using the "Friends and Family" dataset which contains rich data signals gathered from the smartphones of 140 adult members of a young-family residential community for over a year and is one of the most comprehensive mobile phone datasets gathered in academia to date. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Management issues (e.g. long iterations, poor feedback, and lack of adaptations) in the early stages of software Product Line (SPL) engineering can foster demotivation and considerable effort, mainly in scenarios with volatile domain, technology, or requirements. On the other hand, Agile software Development (ASD) fosters short iterations, rich feedbacks, and adaptations in single-system development through values, principles, and practices. We believe integrating Scrum practices into SPL early stages to perform commonality and variability analysis can bring a balance between agility and formalism when creating SPL for existing systems. In this paper, we present an outline of our approach to analyze commonality and variability among the existing products based on Scrum practices to deal with issues regarding iteration, feedback, and adaptation. In service-based environments, each accessible service relies on business process(es) such that changing these services usually requires changing their supporting process(es). Managing process changes is not trivial due to there may exist complex relationships between processes. Changing a process may lead to further changes to related processes to preserve their relationships. There have been several proposals to describe the variability of software product lines by using modeling languages. In larger organizations or projects (e.g., multi product line environments) this can lead to a situation where multiple variability modeling techniques are used simultaneously. Rather than enforcing a single modeling language, we present an integrative infrastructure that provides a unified perspective for users configuring products in such multi product line environments, regardless of the different modeling methods and tools used internally. In this tool demonstration paper, we present a prototypical implementation of our framework based on Web services. So far, the prototype has been used with a feature-based, an OVM-style and a decision-oriented variability modeling approach. © 2013 ACM.

Recommender systems, as an effective personalization approach, can suggest best-suited items (products or services) to particular users based on their explicit and implicit preferences by applying information filtering technology. Collaborative filtering (CF) method is currently the most popular and widely adopted recommendation approach. It works by collecting user ratings for items in a given domain and by computing the similarity between the profiles of several users in order to recommend items. Current similarity measures and models updated by traditional model-based CF have, however, shortcomings with respect to accuracy of prediction and scalability of recommender systems. To overcome these problems, here an incremental CF algorithm based on the Mahalanobis distance is presented. The algorithm has two phases: the learning phase, in which models of similar users are constructed incrementally, and the prediction phase, in which interested users are clustered by measuring their similarity to existing clusters in a model. To handle confusion of decision making on overlapping clusters, fuzzy sets are employed, and the degree of membership to them is expressed by the Mahalanobis radial basis function. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm leads to improved prediction accuracy and prevents the scalability problem in recommendation systems. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Packet loss is one of the most important factors in degrading Voice over IP (VoIP) perceived call quality. Forward Error Correction (FEC) is a powerful technique for transmitting audio streams over the IP network to decrease the effect of packet loss. Although these method reduces the effect of packet loss, it increases the bandwidth and delay in order to recover from the lost packets. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive FEC mechanism for voice calls based on the generated codewords from a Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder. This mechanism chooses the optimum RS code from a family of codes to improve the conversational call quality. Our proposed mechanism is able to switch between different codes during the call to account for the variation of the network conditions including packet loss and delay. We have deduced the proposed algorithm by performing subjective mean opinion score (MOS) testing based on an interactive assessment tests. We show that our adaptive algorithm outperforms fixed RS codes under highly varying network conditions.

Automated Essay Grading (AEG) is defined as a computer technology that evaluates and scores written prose. A number of AEG systems have been developed since the 1960s and in most of them, an ad-hoc or generalized approach is used to grade spelling even though it is an important element of an essay-scoring rubric. Existing approaches do not therefore give an accurate representation or measure of spelling in essays. According to the rubric-based scoring method used in the National Assessment Program "Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) in Australia, spelling is marked in three steps" first, by identifying the correct and incorrect words in the essay;second, by categorizing each word based on the difficulty level into one of four classes: Simple, Common, Difficult or Challenging, and counting the number of correct and incorrect words in each category;finally, by using the pre-defined NAPLAN rubric scale to assign the mark. Only a small number of existing AEG systems can be used for rubric-based scoring, and none can be used to grade spelling according to the NAPLAN rubric. In this paper, we address this shortcoming in the existing literature and present an innovative approach to automatically mark spelling using rubric based scoring. We develop two algorithms based on the rules and heuristics of the English language to formulize the rubric for spelling and then implement these algorithms in Java language and perform a series of evaluations of our system using an essay dataset. Our results are very promising, even though it is the first system of this kind.
