With the amount of information on the Internet continuing to increase rapidly as broadband and mobile communication environments expand, information-classification technology is essential for retrieving desired information efficiently from the wealth of information on the Internet. NTT Information Sharing platform Laboratories is developing an information-classification system based on access logs. We have developed a new Web browsing system called C-Chart using this information-classification technology. This enables Web browsing using information classification by C-Chart.

This paper presents key insights and design rationales behind Inferno, a functional simulation construction framework developed at Intel to support execution-driven cycle-accurate performance modeling and simulation of advanced microarchitectural data speculation techniques for future processor designs and explorations. Inferno divides the task of functional simulation into three essential components, namely, (1) context manager of in-flight speculatively executed instructions, (2) stateless emulator of instruction semantics, and (3) a high speed functional simulator capable of booting OS and running large-scale system workloads. These building block components work together in concert via a set of well-architected functional model convergence APIs. With a novel abstraction called speculative domain, the context manager serves effectively as a relational database about the in-flight instructions and on-going speculations. Through a set of functional model usage APIs, the context manager enables performance models to express arbitrary microarchitectural data speculation scenarios. ne contribution of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of providing a functional model with modular construction, proper abstraction and expressive APIs for speculative state management. Inferno is such a functional model construction framework and has significantly improved productivity in modeling a variety of sophisticated data speculation microarchitecture techniques.

On the Semantic Web, the semantic attributes of information resources are expressed by using general-purpose metadata expressions. Here, we explain technology for a peer-to-peer platform for sharing not only existing metadata, but also metadata that has been extracted from each user's actions in the local environment of that user's personal computer. That metadata expresses the semantic relationships among resources and is shared according to the interests of individual users. Gathered metadata can also be employed by other users as knowledge.

With the boom in online shopping, personal information is now frequently circulated on networks, which raises the importance of protecting the privacy of individuals. One well-known privacy protection architecture on the Web is P3P (platform for Privacy Preferences). It enables privacy information control by comparing the policies of a user and a Web site. But there is a problem: once personal information has been sent to the Web site, the user has lost control of it. Moreover, P3P is focused on the Web and does not support sensor networks such as ones using ID tags, which have become popular. This paper discusses an architecture for the secure circulation of personal information that can solve these problems. It also discusses results for a prototype individual location information circulating system for a wireless LAN. This trial showed that personal information could be circulated in real time by this architecture.

Linux-based platform for Open architecture Controller and Its Modular Developing Method

POAC divides the application software of controller into the developing system and the application system. In the developing system PAOC abstracts a series of function modules with unified data interface and function interface. In the application system POAC defines the model of the architecture module realizing the interoperability and interchangeability between the architecture modules. The modular developing method entities the users to make up an application system with some architecture modules which consist of a set of function modules. The modular developing method decreases the developing time from the standard of controller architecture to the product.

Linux-based platform for Open architecture Controller ( POAC ), a new open architecture controller and its modular developing method are discussed. POAC divides the application software of controller into the developing system and the application system. In the developing system, PAOC abstracts a series of function modules with unified data interface and function interface. In the application system, POAC defines the model of the architecture module, realizing the interoperability and interchangeability between the architecture modules. The modular developing method entities the users to make up an application system with some architecture modules, which consist of a set of function modules. The modular developing method decreases the developing time from the standard of controller architecture to the product.

The HP V-Class server family provides up to 32 processors and 32 GB of memory in a single cabinet. Scalable Computing architecture technology allows multiple V-Class cabinets to be interconnected, forming a single cache coherent non-uniform memory architecture (ccNUMA) system providing up to 128 CPUs and 128 GB of memory. This paper discusses some interesting aspects of the Scalable Computing architecture and the changes made to the HP-UX kernel to operate in this environment.

Patterns and frameworks are two approaches to the development of both new and evolving software systems. An implicit hypothesis is that "discovery costs" are reduced by leveraging knowledge previously collected, analyzed, organized, and packaged. "Discovery costs" (or "getting started" costs) include both the costs of understanding the problem to be solved and the cost of understanding the tools, methods, existing software, etc. For large, multi-year development projects in industries such as defense or telecommunications, discovery costs can dominate the overall cost (and risk) of software *** panel will share its experience and perspectives with the audience with a discussion initiated by the following questions:• Have patterns and frameworks really delivered on their claims for reducing discovery costs? Can current best-practices be characterized as meaningful or marginal (what are the measures)?• What are the discovery cost factors where frameworks and patterns appear to deliver the biggest bang for the buck?• While mature pattern languages and frameworks may reduce the learning curve, they do not, eliminate it. How much of a learning curve is required to develop a sufficient shared context with the authors of a set of patterns or a framework?
