COAST GUARD Academy in 1950 receiving a B.S. degree and earned his Master of Sciences and Naval Engineer degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957. He has served in various line and engineering capacities on board COAST GUARD Cutters in Atlantic Pacific and Alaskan waters. He served in the production department of the COAST GUARD Yard in Curtis Bay Maryland and later was Chief of the Naval Engineering Branches of the 13th COAST GUARD District in Seattle Washington and the 3rd COAST GUARD District New York New York. After retirement he held a position as Manager of the Marine Engineering Department at Atlantic Research Corporation Costa Mesa California and joined Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company in 1973. He was Project Engineer for the Polar Class Icebreakers the AS-41 and the LSD-41 in various stages. He has contributed technical papers to several professional societies. He is currently a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers the American Society of Naval Engineers where he served as a past chairman of the Puget Sound Chapter and the National Management Association where he served as a Past President of the local chapter. He is a senior systems engineer at Lockheed. Peter M. Sias:received his B.S. degree in Marine Engineering from Maine Maritime Academy in 1950. Subsequently he completed a NAVY sponsored program in Naval Architecture at the University of California and Department of Defense courses in program management and contract administration at the Air Force Institute of Technology. He served on active duty with the United States Navy during the Korean emergency with assignments as Engineering Officer for a minesweeper and collateral staff duty assignments with the Commander Mineforce U.S. Pacific Fleet for reserve ship activation. Following graduation he was assigned to the Boston Naval Shipyard followed by two years in theUSS Puget Sound (AD-38)as Repair Officer after which he was ordered to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as the Production Engineering Officer. Currently he is on duty in the Naval Sea Systems Command (PMS 399) where he is the Trials Officer and Hull Technical Director for theOliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7)Class Acquisition Program. Cdr. Woodruff is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer and among his military decorations holds the Naval Achievement Medal and the Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross. In addition to ASNE which he joined in 1967 he is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute. Two previous papers on Naval Shipyard Production presented at ASNE Day 1978 and 1979 were published in the Naval Engineers Journal Vol. 90 No. 2 (April 1978) and Vol. 91 No. 2 (April 1979). 作者: ALDEN, JOHN D. CARLSON, ARTHUR D. Commander John D. Alden entered the Navy via the V-7 Reserve Midshipman Program in 1942. His World War II submarine duty was aboard USS Lamprey (55372). He attended a post-war course in electronics engineering at MIT followed by sea duty on USS Sea Cat (55399) and USS Palau (CVE 122). Designated for engineering duty in 1950 his duty stations have included Electronic Supply Office Great Lakes SupShips Groton Connecticut San Francisco Naval Shipyard and Bureau of Ships. He has recently reported for duty at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Mr. Arthur D. Carlson graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and received his Master of Science in Engineering from the same school in 1963. From 1959 to 1963 he was employed at the U.S. Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory New London Connecticut where he worked on non-electrical problems of submarine antennas. He is presently employed by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in its Applied Mechanics Section.

Mr. Fioriti is the Materials Engineer in the Hull Scientific and Research Section Bureau of Ships with responsibility for materials and fabrication processes that are used in the construction of ship hulls. Mr. Fioriti attended the University of Pittsburgh receiving the Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1951. He took postgraduate work at the University of Maryland receiving the Master of Science degree in 1960. From 1951 to 1956 he worked in the Metals and Metallurgy Section of the Bureau of Ships where he planned and administered research programs on metals for ships. He was associated intimately with the development of HY-80 steel and prepared the first specification used for its procurement by the Navy. In addition he was responsible for the development of dimpled armor plate for aircraft carrier flight decks. In 1956 he assumed his present position where he has been active in the Ship Structure Committee research program the low cycle fatigue structural program and the hydrofoil materials research program. Mr. Vasta is the Head of Hull Scientific and Research Section Bureau of Ships with responsibility for planning initiating and technically monitoring research in the fields of structural mechanics and hydromechanics. Mr. Vasta attended New York University receiving the Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1930. He took postgraduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving the Master of Science degree in 1931. From 1931 to 1938 he worked at the United States Experimental Model Basin in the structural mechanics group. After a short duty at the Headquarters of the United States Coast Guard he joined in 1939 the staff of the United States Maritime Commission where he held various positions of responsibility in the Technical Division. USN Commander L. Dennis Ballou: USN is the Head of the Engineering Service Office Naval Ship Engineering Center. He is involved in computer hardware and software services to support engineering design automatic data processing systems design work study and quality assurance. Prior to NavSec duty Commander Ballou served in various billets afloat and ashore: tours on the USS Skagit and Tang supervision of the USS Skipjack's first overhul construction of the USS Nathanael Greene and helping to establish the Polaris overhaul program. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy Officers' Submarine School and the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. Prior to this he held the position of Deputy Chief Design Engineer at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture a Bachelor of Law Degree from the George Washington University Law School and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University Business School. He has been engaged in ship design for the Navy since 1948. CDR. L. D. Ballou USN is Head of the Engineering Criteria and Procedures Office of the Naval. Ship Engineering Center. One of his responsibilities includes management of the Navy's Computer-Aided Ship Design program. Prior assignments have included: ship superintendent and docking officer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard senior submarine project officer and planning and estimating officer at the Office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Newport News and shipboard duty in surface ships and submarines. His education includes a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy and a B.S. in marine engineering and M.S. in noval architecture from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture.

作者: NESBITT, RICHARD J. The author is graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy with the class of 1940. He first served in the USS NEVADA. Assigned to the Naval Construction and Engineering Course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology he was designated as an Engineering Duty Officer upon graduation in 1945. Since then he has been assigned various construction and repair duties on both East and West Coasts and in Pearl Harbor and as Material Officer COMSERV-PAC Staff. Prior to his current assignment in the Bureau of Ships he was the Production Officer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He assumed his present duties as Program Officer Project SEA HAWK in July 1962.

作者: D'EMIDIO USN The author Prior to entering the Navy Commander D'Emidio received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (1951) and a Master of Science degree in Sanitation Engineering from the University of Michigan (1960). He was employed as a Sanitary Engineer Designer for the Architect/Engineer firm of Porter Urquhart-Skidmore Owings and Merrill in North Africa. After completing Officer Candidate School in 1953 Commander D'Emidio served in the Public Works Department of the Naval Air Material Center Philadelphia Pennsylvania. In 1957 he became Officer in Charge of Construction for three U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Bases in Spain. After successful tours of duty as Public Works Officer Naval Air Station Columbus Ohio and Technical Department Officer Construction Battalion Center Davisville Rhode Island he was assigned to the Naval Nuclear Power Division of Naval Facilities Engineering Command. In this capacity he assisted in the procurement and shipment of the Navy's first nuclear power plant which was installed by Seabees at McMurdo Sound Antartica in 1962. Later that year he became Civil Engineer Corps Advisor to the Brazilian Navy where he assisted in the design of a carrier-sized dry dock. In 1965 he returned to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command to establish the Navy's first Comprehensive Air and Water Pollution Abatement Program. During this tour of duty he successfully defended the Navy's Pollution Abatement Program through the Congress. Commander D'Emidio is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of New Jersey and Ohio and is a Diplomat in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers the Society of Military Engineers and the American Public Works Association. Commander D'Emidio is assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations where he is the Director of the Navy Environmental Protection Division.
