Protective mechanism of quercetin compounds against acrylamide-induced hepatotoxicity

Quercetin compounds have antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and anticancer pharmacological *** exposure to acrylamide(AA)can cause liver injury and endanger human ***,whether quercetin compounds can attenuate AA-induced liver injury and the specific mechanism are not ***,we studied the mechanism and structure-activity relationship of quercetin compounds in reducing AA-induced hepatotoxicity in vivo and in *** vivo studies found that quercetin-like compounds protect against AAinduced liver injury by reducing oxidative stress levels,activating the Akt/m TOR signaling pathway to attenuate autophagy,and improving mitochondrial apoptosis and endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated *** vitro studies found that quercetin compounds protected Hep G2 cells from AA by attenuating the activation of AA-induced autophagy,lowering reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels by exerting antioxidant effects and thus attenuating oxidative stress,increasing mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP),and improving apoptosis-related proteins,thus attenuating AA-induced ***,the conformational differences between quercetin compounds correlated with their protective capacity against AA-induced hepatotoxicity,with quercetin showing the best protective capacity due to its strongest antioxidant *** conclusion,quercetin compounds can protect against AA-induced liver injury through multiple pathways of oxidative stress,autophagy and apoptosis,and their protective capacity correlates with antioxidant activity.

PI-Based Set-Point Learning control for Batch Processes with Unknown Dynamics and Nonrepetitive Uncertainties

For industrial batch processes with unknown dynamics subject to nonrepetitive initial conditions and disturbances, this paper develops a novel adaptive data-driven set-point learning control (ADDSPLC) scheme based on only the measured process input and output data, which has two loops, one for the dynamics within a batch and the other for the batch-to-batch dynamics. In the former case, a model-free tuning strategy is firstly presented for determining the closed-loop PI controller parameters. For the latter case, a set-point learning control law with adaptive set-point learning gain and gradient estimation is developed for batch run optimization. Robust convergence of the output tracking error is rigorously analyzed together with the boundedness of adaptive learning gain and real-time updated set-point command. Moreover, another iterative extended state observer based (ADDSPLC) scheme is developed with rigorous convergence and boundedness analysis, to enhance the robust tracking performance against nonrepetitive uncertainties. Finally, two illustrative examples from the literature are used to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the new schemes over the recently developed data-driven learning control designs. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

To date,copper-based catalysts are one of the most prominent catalysts that can electrochemically reduce CO_(2)towards highvalue fuels or chemicals,such as ethylene,ethanol,and acetic ***,the chemically active feature of Cu-based catalysts hinders the understanding of the intrinsic catalytic active sites during the initial and the operative processes of electrochemical CO_(2)reduction(CO_(2)RR).The identification and engineering of active sites during the dynamic evolution of catalysts are thereby vital to further improve the activity,selectivity,and durability of Cu-based catalysts for high-performance CO_(2)*** this regard,four triggers for the dynamic evolution of catalysts were introduced in ***,three typical active-site theories during the dynamic reconstruction of catalysts were *** addition,the strategies in catalyst design were summarized according to the latest reports of Cu-based catalysts for CO_(2)RR,including the tuning of electronic structure,controlling of the external potential,and regulation of local catalytic ***,the conclusions and perspectives were provided to inspire more investigations and studies on the intrinsic active sites during the dynamic evolution of catalysts,which could promote the optimization of the catalyst system to further improve the performance of CO_(2)RR.

Deep learning and computer vision (CV) can easily recognize pictures that the human doctor would have to spend a lot of time and labor to process. Thus, they have a wide range of applications in the field of ophthalmology, which is highly dependent on fundus images. However, training a robust and highly accurate model requires a large number of labeled high-quality images, which is often difficult for a single institution to provide. A natural solution is to use data from multiple medical centers to train the model. But due to privacy protection, data heterogeneity, and other problems, these data cannot be shared directly. Based on a real case of ophthalmic disease diagnosis with multiple data sources, this paper proposes solutions to the heterogeneity of data amount and features between datasets, establishes a heterogeneous federated learning framework, and applies federated learning to the diagnosis of multiple types of ophthalmic diseases for the first time. The experimental results show that federated learning can greatly improve the diagnostic accuracy of clients with less data, and the accuracy of clients with more data can also be slightly improved. The ablation experiment has demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method for handling data heterogeneity. Our research shows that through heterogeneous federated learning, we can use multi-source, non-independent-identical data to build accurate disease diagnosis models, and make clients who cannot obtain effective models get a practical level disease diagnosis model. © 2023 IEEE.

Traumatic wounds are the prevalent scenarios encountered in battleground and emergency rooms. The rapid and effective hemostasis is imperative for life saving in these scenarios, for which the development of high-efficiency and biocompatible hemostatic materials is essential. Due to its excellent hemostatic property and biocompatibility,collagen has emerged as an ideal component of hemostatic materials. Furthermore, the properties of collagen-based hemostatic materials could be improved by the integration of other biomacromolecules, such as alginate, cellulose derivatives, and chitosan derivatives. Therefore, more and more novel hemostatic materials with exceptional hemostatic properties have been developed. This review aims to overview recent progress of collagen-based hemostatic materials. Firstly, the hemostatic mechanism of collagen was introduced. Secondly, various forms of collagen-based hemostatic materials, such as hydrogels, sponges, and powders, were highlighted. Thirdly, composite hemostatic materials of collagen and other biomacromolecules were overviewed. Finally, the outlook of collagen-based hemostatic materials was discussed.

The semi-solid stir casting method is adopted to prepare 10 wt%SiC_(p)/Mg-6Zn-0.5Ca-xAl(x=0,1,3 and 5 wt%)composites,and the microstructure evolution and mechanical property of composites with various Al content are *** results show that the addition of 3 wt%Al improves the distribution of SiC_(p),whereas the SiC_(p) cluster occurs again with Al content greater than 3%.An abnormal phenomenon of twinning is observed in the cast composites in this *** SiC_(p)/Mg-6Zn-0.5Ca composite possesses the highest twin content of~23%,for which tension twins(TTW)and compression twins(CTW)account for~19%and~3%,*** CTW is only observed in ZXA600 *** addition of Al has an inhibiting effect for the generation and growth of *** content of twin decreases firstly and then increases with increase of Al *** lowest twin content is obtained as Al increases to 3 wt%.It is found the existence of twin is detrimental to the mechanical property of ***-cast SiC_(p)/Mg-6Zn-0.5Ca-3Al composite with the lowest twin content exhibits the optimal mechanical property of yield strength,ultimate tensile strength and elongation for 100 MPa,188 MPa and 4.4%,*** outstanding mechanical property is attributed to the uniform distribution of SiC_(p),the low twin content and the well-distributed fine second phases.

The complex process mechanism of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) and the strong nonlinearity of multi-variable coupling bring significant challenges to the model predictive control (MPC) of FCC production process models. This study presents a modeling method of FCC system based on improved extreme learning machine Hammerstein (IELM-Hammerstein). Aiming at the nonlinear characteristics of FCC process, the Hammerstein model's static nonlinear subsystem is constructed using an extreme learning machine (ELM). Considering the instability of the algorithm caused by random weights and thresholds in the ELM, the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is adopted to calculate the parameters, then one recursive least square (RLS) method is derived from calculating the linear subsystem regression parameters of Hammerstein model. To prove the effectiveness of this method, the comparative experiments with the traditional identification method are carried out, and this method is applied to modeling and control of the fractionating system in a petroleum refinery. The experimental results indicates that the proposed method guarantees the modeling accuracy of the fractionating system, and improves the tracking control performance. © 2023 IEEE.

The temperature modulation technique based on semiconductor gas sensors is a kind of multi-modal characteristic signal output with temperature dependence by periodically changing the heating temperature mode of the sensor, which can effectively address the low response rate and poor selectivity issues encountered in semiconductor gas sensors. To improve the detection characteristics of the sensor for four environmental test gases, CH4, CO, C2H5OH, and NO2, this paper uses rectangular wave temperature modulation mode for low-frequency dynamic performance test analysis, discrete wavelet transform and principal component analysis for dynamic information feature extraction and dimensionality reduction, combined with GA-PNN model for optimal identification. The results show that the selectivity of gas detection is improved in all the nine designed temperature modulation modes, and the response rate is improved significantly. Among them, the gas qualitative analysis accuracy can reach 100% in the rectangular wave modulation mode with 4-5 V bias and a 20 s period, opening up a new semiconductor sensor detection path. © 2023 IEEE.

Pre-combustion mercury removal with co-production of hydrogen via coal electrolysis

Pre-combustion mercury removal via coal electrolysis was performed and investigated on a bench-scale coal electrolytic cell(CEC)systemically,and factorial design was used to determine the effect of different operating conditions(coal particle size,operating temperature,operating cell voltage,and flow rate of slurry)on the percentage of mercury removal,percentage of ash removal,and dry heating value *** results showed that the operating cell voltage,as well as the interaction between operating cell voltage and coal particle size,are significant factors in the percentage of mercury *** is no significant factor in the percentage of ash removal and the dry heating value change,but the coal could be purified while keeping the dry heating value almost constant after electrolysis.A co-product of hydrogen could be produced during coal electrolysis with 50%lower energy consumption compared with water ***,a mechanism for mercury removal in coal was *** facts indicate that coal electrolysis is a promising method for precombustion mercury removal.

A mixed adaptive dynamic programming(ADP)scheme based on zero-sum game theory is developed to address optimal control problems of autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV)systems subject to disturbances and safe *** combining prior dynamic knowledge and actual sampled data,the proposed approach effectively mitigates the defect caused by the inaccurate dynamic model and significantly improves the training speed of the ADP ***,the dataset is enriched with sufficient reference data collected based on a nominal model without considering modelling ***,the control object interacts with the real environment and continuously gathers adequate sampled data in the *** comprehensively leverage the advantages of model-based and model-free methods during training,an adaptive tuning factor is introduced based on the dataset that possesses model-referenced information and conforms to the distribution of the real-world environment,which balances the influence of model-based control law and data-driven policy gradient on the direction of policy *** a result,the proposed approach accelerates the learning speed compared to data-driven methods,concurrently also enhancing the tracking performance in comparison to model-based control ***,the optimal control problem under disturbances is formulated as a zero-sum game,and the actor-critic-disturbance framework is introduced to approximate the optimal control input,cost function,and disturbance policy,***,the convergence property of the proposed algorithm based on the value iteration method is ***,an example of AUV path following based on the improved line-of-sight guidance is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
