Kalman filter is widely used for residual generation in fault detection. It leads to optimality in fault detection using some performance indices and also leads to statistically sound residual evaluation and threshold setting. This paper shows that these nice features do not necessarily imply an optimal fault detection performance. Based on a performance index related to fault detection rate and false alarm rate, several occasions where Kalman filter should not be used are pointed out;further the residual evaluation and threshold setting are discussed, in which it is pointed out that in stochastic setting an optimal statistical test of Kamlan filter is not related to optimality of commonly used detection performance indicators. The theoretical analysis is verified through Monte Carlo simulations and Tennessee Eastman process (TEP) dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Cloud-based smartphone-assisted chemiluminescent assay for rapid screening of electroactive bacteria

Electroactive bacteria(EAB)can transfer electrons to exocellular solid acceptors and have widespread applications in the fields of pollutant degradation,biosynthesis,and hydrogen *** EAB screening methods can precisely measure the bacterial extracellular electron transfer ability,but they suffer from time-consuming and labor-intensive *** chemiluminescence technique is effective for the rapid detection of hemoglobin but has not been applied for EAB ***,we utilized a chemiluminescent assay to identify EAB through a multiheme c-type cytochrome(c-Cyt)triggered chemiluminescent *** multiheme c-Cyts-triggered chemiluminescence was conveniently determined by taking photographs with commercial smartphones and cloud-based *** acquired image signal shows a significant and linear relationship with the bacterial *** results of the chemiluminescence intensity triggered by different bacterial species with the proposed method are strongly associated with those of the microplate reading method(Pearson’s r of 0.9795;P<0.01)and dissimilatory Fe(Ⅲ)reduction method(Pearson’s r of 0.9628;P<0.01).Furthermore,this cloud-based and smartphone-assisted chemiluminescent assay is instrument-free and easy to operate,and results can be obtained within 2 *** findings demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively detect ***,it will be an alternative approach for EAB screening and can have promising applications in microbiology,environmental science,and bioenergy.

Microseismic(MS)events generated during coal and rock hydraulic fracturing(HF)include wet events caused by fracturing fuid injection,in addition to dry events caused by stress *** mixture of these two events makes efective fracturing MS events pickup *** study is based on physical experiments of diferent coal and rock HF and uniaxial *** diferences of waveform characteristic parameters of various coal and rock ruptures were analyzed using the Hilbert–Huang transform,leading to some useful *** phase characteristics of the acoustic emission(AE)energy difered signifcantly and responded well to the pumping pressure *** AE waveforms of HF exhibit similar energy and frequency distribution characteristics after Empirical mode *** main frequency bands for coal,sandstone,and shale samples are 100–300 kHz,while the mudstone sample is in the range of 50–150 *** decay ratios for coal,sandstone,shale and mudstone samples are 0.78,0.83,0.67 and 0.85,*** compared to the uniaxial compression test,the main frequency bands of HF were reduced for coal,sandstone and mudstone samples,whereas shale remained essentially *** duration,instantaneous energy,and total energy of the HF waveform are smaller than those of uniaxial compression,while the decay ratio is greater,especially for the mudstone *** waveform characteristic parameters,trained using the multilayer perceptron neural network,can efectively identify HF and uniaxial compression events with an accuracy of 96%.

Active power dispatch of wind farms plays an important role in power grid scheduling. In this paper, a data-driven active power dispatch strategy for wind farms is proposed, which uses the key point of minimizing the standard deviation of wind turbines' output power series to reduce their fluctuations. First, to build the optimization problem, the historical active power output data of each wind turbine is collected from the Supervisory control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Then, the objective function is developed based on the idea of minimizing the standard deviation of the output power time series. Meanwhile, considering the constraints of wind turbines' output power and active power balance of the grid, the feasible domain of the cost function is constructed. Further, to solve the proposed nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints, the trust region interior point method (TRIPM) is employed to explore optimal solution within the feasible domain. Finally, actual data collected from wind farms is used to test effectiveness of the designed approach and experimental results show that our method can achieve better output power smoothing performance than conventional Proportional Dispatch (PD) method. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of cutting-edge technologies and the efforts of business giants, Metaverse is becoming increasingly reachable. In addition to the fields of healthcare, education and cultural tourism, Metaverse will also have a profound impact on the power grid. The digital twin (DT) is regarded as the foundation of Metaverse, but its high cost hinders the broad application of DTs in power grids. In this paper, we propose a path to build the DTs in the direct current (DC) microgrid, which is a representative block in the future power grid with the penetration of renewable energy sources, forming Grid-Metaverse that can significantly reduce the cost and improve the interactivity. A model-based DT, which is originated from the physical model, and a data-driven DT, using the graph neural network with the data from the model-based one, are built together to illustrate this path and to show their roles in the Grid-Metaverse. Moreover, in the prototype tests, the threats of denial-of-service (DoS) and false data injection (FDI) attacks are validated through the developed DTs. © 2023 IEEE.

The environmental issues have become increasingly prominent, and water environments have remained a major societal concern. Surface pollutants in rivers are one of the key factors damaging water environments. Given the large number and wide distribution of rivers, manual river inspections and the collection of floating objects are time-consuming and labor-intensive. In this study, a river surface floating objects detection method based on deep learning is proposed. To address the noise issues caused by interferences in natural scenes, an image preprocessing method based on median filtering and Laplace operator is studied. In order to select the most suitable deep learning algorithm, this work compares the YOLOv5, Faster-RCNN, and SSD algorithms. After comparative analysis, an optimized YOLOv5 model is proposed for detecting floating objects on river surfaces. Finally, a visualization platform is developed based on PyQt5, enabling real-time monitoring and display of floating objects in river surveillance videos. Experimental results demonstrate that this method can effectively detect floating objects on river surfaces, with recall rate of 0.741 for artificial trash, mAP@0.5 of 0.798, and mAP@0.5:0.95 of 0.704. This system achieves real-time surface floating objects monitoring in rivers and open channels, providing crucial information for the protection and management of water environments.

With the development of big data, data-driven fault diagnosis models have experienced rapid growth. However, as the complexity of models increases, there is a corresponding rise in the demand for data. To obtain a substantial amount of data, traditional approaches involve centralizing datasets from multiple factories for training. However, due to heightened emphasis on data privacy from enterprises and regulatory bodies, this method becomes more challenging to implement and poses risks of data leakage. In response to this challenge, this paper designs a novel federated learning-based fault diagnosis modeling approach. Each local device trains its model on its local dataset and subsequently uploads updated model parameters to a central server for global model aggregation and updating. However, it is worth noting that in industrial processes, there may be concurrent class imbalance and data client imbalance, which brings challenges to fault diagnosis modeling based on federated learning. To address this challenge, we further propose a dynamic client aggregation fault diagnosis method based on category loss in federated learning. Experimental results indicate that the proposed approach not only protects data privacy in imbalanced class and client scenarios but also achieves outstanding fault recognition accuracy and robustness.

Three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy offers high-dimensional information and rapid sensitivity, making it advantageous in fields such as environmental monitoring and food testing. However, scattering effects can hinder analysis accuracy, and traditional de-scattering methods often lead to signal loss and distortion. To overcome these issues, a denoising method based on a physics-informed neural network is proposed. This method includes a physical information reconstruction module that generates theoretical values approximating actual scattering values. Integrated into a GAN framework, this module uses physical quantities to guide the generator in producing physically consistent images, thus preserving material integrity after scattering removal. Tests on a self-built dataset show that this method achieves higher physical consistency compared to traditional methods.

An improved path planning algorithm based on RRT* is proposed for the manipulator to generate a collision-free path for end-effector in this paper, which maximizes the manipulator's manipulability throughout the entire path. The algorithm introduces manipulability information as prior information to guide the RRT node toward desired regions. By introducing hybrid cost into improved RRT * algorithm, the path length is minimized while the expected manipulability is maximized. Finally, the end-effector path is transformed into a configuration trajectory by solving a multi-objective optimization problem. The simulation results compared with RRT * demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
