Numerical and experimental studies on the effectiveness of time-varying electromagnetic fields in reducing electron density

In this study,a string of Cr-Mnco-modified activated coke catalysts(XCryMn1-y/AC)were prepared to investigate toluene and Hg^(0) removal *** characterizations including XRD,TEM,SEM,in situ DRIFTS,BET,XPS and H_(2)-TPR showed that 4%Cr0.5Mn0.5/AC had excellent physicochemical properties and exhibited the best toluene and Hg^(0) removal efficiency at 200℃.By varying the experimental gas components and conditions,it was found that too large weight hourly space velocity would reduce the removal efficiency of toluene and Hg^(0).Although O_(2) promoted the abatement of toluene and Hg^(0),the inhibitory role of H_(2)O and SO_(2) offset the promoting effect of O_(2) to some *** significantly inhibited Hg^(0) removal,resulting from that toluene was present at concentrations orders of magnitude greater than mercury’s or the catalyst was more prone to adsorb toluene,while Hg^(0) almost exerted non-existent influence on toluene *** mechanistic analysis showed that the forms of toluene and Hg^(0) removal included both adsorption and oxidation,where the high-valent metal cations and oxygen vacancy clusters promoted the redox cycle of Cr^(3+)+Mn^(3+)/Mn^(4+)+Cr^(6+)+Mn^(2+),which facilitated the conversion and replenishment of reactive oxygen species in the oxidation process,and even the CrMn_(1.5)O_(4) spinel structure could provide a larger catalytic interface,thus enhancing the adsorption/oxidation of toluene and Hg^(0).Therefore,its excellent physicochemical properties make it a costeffective potential industrial catalyst with outstanding synergistic toluene and Hg^(0) removal performance and preeminent resistance to H_(2)O and SO_(2).

Pathogen infection-responsive nanoplatform targeting macrophage endoplasmic reticulum for treating life-threatening systemic infection

In this study, a high-efficiency strontium-doped hydroxyapatite (Sr-HAP) adsorbent was synthesized by a sol-gel method for removing cobaltous ions (Co(II)) from water. The effects of adsorbent dose, initial solution pH, initial Co(II) concentration and temperature on the removal performance of Co(II) were investigated. Experimental results indicated that the optimum Sr-HAP dose was 0.30 g/50 mL solution, the Sr-HAP adsorbent could effectively remove Co(II) in a wide pH range of 3–8. Increasing temperature was conducive to the adsorption, and the maximum Co(II) adsorption capacity by Sr-HAP reached 48.467 mg/g at 45 °C. The adsorption of Co(II) followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, indicating that the Co(II) adsorption by Sr-HAP was attributed mainly to chemisorption. The isothermal adsorption results showed that at lower Co(II) equilibrium concentration, the Langmuir model fitted the data better than the Freundlich model but opposite at higher Co(II) equilibrium concentration. Therefore, the adsorption of Co(II) was a process from monolayer adsorption to multilayer adsorption with the increase of the Co(II) equilibrium concentration. The diffusion analysis of Co(II) to Sr-HAP indicated that the internal diffusion and surface adsorption were the rate-controlled steps of Co(II) adsorption. Thermodynamic study demonstrated that the Co(II) adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. The mechanism study revealed that in addition to chemisorption, Sr-HAP also removed Co(II) ions from water via ion exchange and surface complexation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Comparison of exogenous degrader-enhanced bioremediation with low-dose persulfate oxidation for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon removal in alkaline soil:efficiency and influence on ecological health

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)-contaminated soils are usually complex and characterized by a lack of nutrition and soil salinization,resulting in difficulties in soil *** this study,bioaugmentation with a PAH-degrading Bacillus PheN7(BA)and low-dose persulfate oxidation(PS),along with natural biodegradation,were utilized to remediate alkaline PAH-contaminated *** soil used in the study had a pH of 9.35,and the total PAH content was 568.8±31.0 mg/kg dry *** 42 d of remediation,the degradation efficiency of PAHs was 96.72%and 93.88%using persulfate oxidation and bioaugmentation,respectively,whereas 38.66%of PAHs were degraded in natural attenuation(NA).Bacillus was the dominant genera throughout the process of bioremediation with the relative abundance of 79.3%on day 42 in the BA system,whereas,Alcanivorax was enriched and became the dominant genera in PS *** the meantime,PAH degradation genes were detected with remarkably higher level in the BA system than in PS system during the *** addition to the degradation of contaminants,persulfate oxidation promotes microbial bioremediation efficiency mainly by lowering the pH to neutral and increasing the active phosphorus content in the *** species and ecological niches were less reduced in the PS system than in the BA ***,persulfate oxidation had a better impact on the soil microbiome and is more suitable for long-term soil health than bioaugmentation through PheN7 addition.

Study on the Heat Transfer of Capillary Heat Exchanger for Heat Pump in Coastal Areas at Different Times of Diary Operation

This paper studies the optimization design of capillary heat exchangers and their innovative engineering applications in buildings. The purpose of this study is to use a capillary heat exchanger as the front-end device of the heat pump in coastal areas to extract energy to facilitate the application of renewable energy in buildings. Firstly, in this paper, the main factors of capillary heat transfer efficiency were explored in areas near the coast. Secondly, for the sake of improve the heat transfer efficiency of the capillary heat exchanger, numerical calculations were carried out on the heat transfer of the capillary in the case of inconsistent operating patterns in the summer and winter months, respectively. The results showed that when the daily working time of the capillary heat exchanger was 8 hours, the temperature difference of the capillary inlet and outlet was 2.1 ℃. And the heat transfer rate was 87.1 W/m2. In summer, the temperature difference of the capillary inlet and outlet was 2.6 ℃. And the heat transfer rate was 107.8 W/m2. This article helps to promote innovative and sustainable technologies in coastland development, such as capillary heat exchangers and heat pumps, which could used in renewable energy extraction and building utilization in near coastal areas. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers).
