Spin-state Conversion by Asymmetrical Orbital Hybridization in Ni-doped Co3O4to Boost Singlet Oxygen Generation for Microbial Disinfection

Singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) plays a significant role in environmental and biomedical disinfection fields. Electrocatalytic processes hold great potential for 1 O 2 generation, but remain challenging. Herein, a facile Ni doping converted spin-state transition approach is reported for boosting 1 O 2 production. Magnetic analysis and theoretical calculations reveal that Ni occupied at the octahedral site of Co 3 O 4 can effectively induce a low-to-high spin-state transition. The high-spin Ni−Co 3 O 4 generate appropriate binding strength and enhance electron transfer between the Co centers with oxygen intermediates, thereby improving the catalytic activity of Ni−Co 3 O 4 for effective generating 1 O 2 . In neutral conditions, 1×10 6 CFU mL −1 Gram-negative ESBL-producing Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) could be inactivated by Ni−Co 3 O 4 system within 5 min. Further antibacterial mechanisms indicate that 1 O 2 can lead to cell membrane damage and DNA degradation so as to irreversible cell death. Additionally, the developed Ni−Co 3 O 4 system can effectively inactivate bacteria from wastewater and bioaerosols. This work provides an effective strategy for designing high-spin electrocatalysis to boost 1 O 2 generation for disinfection process.

Analysis of moving target defense against false data injection attacks on power grid

Recent studies have considered thwarting false data injection (FDI) attacks against state estimation in power grids by proactively perturbing branch susceptances. This approach is known as moving target defense (MTD). However, despite of the deployment of MTD, it is still possible for the attacker to launch stealthy FDI attacks generated with former branch susceptances. In this paper, we prove that, an MTD has the capability to thwart all FDI attacks constructed with former branch susceptances only if (i) the number of branches l in the power system is not less than twice that of the system states n (i.e., l ≥ 2n, where n + 1 is the number of buses);(ii) the susceptances of more than n branches, which cover all buses, are perturbed. Moreover, we prove that the state variable of a bus that is only connected by a single branch (no matter it is perturbed or not) can always be modified by the attacker. Nevertheless, in order to reduce the attack opportunities of potential attackers, we first exploit the impact of the susceptance perturbation magnitude on the dimension of the stealthy attack space, in which the attack vector is constructed with former branch susceptances. Then, we propose that, by perturbing an appropriate set of branches, we can minimize the dimension of the stealthy attack space and maximize the number of covered buses. Besides, we consider the increasing operation cost caused by the activation of MTD. Finally, we conduct extensive simulations to illustrate our findings with IEEE standard test power systems. Green-grey infrastructure is increasingly recognized for its role in mitigating flood risks and promoting sustainable stormwater management. Despite extensive research on optimization, enhancing system resilience through improved drainage network redundancy remains under-explored. This study aims to address this gap by integrating two redundancy strategies, i.e., parallel pipelines and redundant paths, into a multi-objective optimization framework to enhance the system resilience from the cross-sectional and top-down dimensions, respectively. Iterative layouts were designed using a graph-theoretic algorithm coupled with green infrastructure optimization. The predominant objectives were to reduce life cycle costs and enhance resilience against urban flood pressures caused by extreme storms and infrastructure failures. A service period assessment method was employed to evaluate the sustainability gains for the optimized layouts provided by redundancy strategies. The findings indicated that both parallel pipeline and redundant path strategies significantly improve sustainability, with pronounced effectiveness in decentralized and centralized layouts, respectively. Additionally, these strategies were more effective in addressing internal pressure of infrastructure failures than external pressure of extreme storm. Consequently, three decentralized green-grey infrastructure layouts incorporating both redundancy strategies are recommended for decision-makers. This framework offers novel insights into the application of redundancy strategies for the design and planning of sustainable urban drainage systems. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Optimization of extraction of polyphenols from chestnut shell by response surface methodology

Chestnut shell is one of the main by-products in the chestnut processing, which contains abundant polyphenols, so it can be used as a source of polyphenols. In this study, using ethanol as the extraction solvent, the optimum extraction conditions of polyphenols from chestnut shell were determined by single factor experiment and response surface experiment: liquid-solid ratio of 39:1, extraction temperature of 74°C, extraction time of 91 min, ethanol concentration of 65%. Under these conditions, the extraction rate (ER) of polyphenols from chestnut shell was 6.09%. The results can assist in better exploitation of chestnut shell, which can not only reduce resource waste and environmental pollution, but also obtain economic benefits.

This paper focuses on the photovoltaic (PV) system and studies the dust depositing diagnosis of the PV modules. An unsupervised data-driven method called Similarity-Based Modeling (SBM) was used to deal with this problem and some improvements of this method were adopted. SBM is a nonparametric empirical modeling technology that uses pattern recognition from historical data to generate estimates of the current values of each variable in a set of modeled data sources. The motivation to use SBM is that the mainstream approaches now, contrast experiments approaches and theoretical formulas approaches have many disadvantages. Contrast experiments are complicated and need experiment systems with high-cost. Theoretical formulas approaches are not accurate enough. SBM overcomes them to some extent. Numerical experiments are also studied to testify that the proposed method has good performance in the application.

To address the issues of fuzziness and randomness in risk evaluation for subway shield construction, this study proposes a risk assessment model integrating variable weight theory and an extension cloud model to enable a more scientific and effective evaluation. Firstly, the WBS-RBS (Work Breakdown Structure-Risk Breakdown Structure) method was employed to establish a risk evaluation index system for metro tunnel construction, with risk levels classified into Grades I-V. Secondly, the ordinal relationship method (G1) and entropy weight method were applied to calculate the fixed weights of the evaluation indexes. The comprehensive fixed weights are determined based on the game theory, considering the dynamic changes of the evaluation indexes, and the optimal dynamic, comprehensive weights are calculated based on this combined with the variable weight theory. Finally, comprehensive affiliation degrees were obtained through the extension cloud model, and the comprehensive evaluation grade was determined according to the principle of maximum affiliation. The model was applied to the submarine tunnel section of Qingdao Metro Line 8. The results indicate that the risk level of the project is Grade III, which aligns with the actual construction conditions. This consistency validates the rationality and feasibility of the proposed method, offering a novel approach to guide safety management and risk decision-making in metro tunnel construction projects.

HPV18 E6 and E7 Intratumour Heterogeneity in Esophageal Cancer

The development of esophageal cancer accompanied by the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA into the host genome. By evaluating the expression of this virus for tumor cell origin and also their cell grows and migrations, we examined esophageal cancer clonality in the context of intra-tumor heterogeneity. In this research, we have checked the expression of HPV18 E6 and E7 in different single cell clones by the manual cell picking method in the HPV positive esophageal cancer (EC109), EC109 cell line used as a negative control, and Hela cell line used as the positive control. Quantitative real-time PCR (QRT-PCR) was run to detect the expression levels of HPV E6 and E7, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to examine cell proliferation, invasion assays performed using Costar chambers and wounding assay to study cell migrations in vitro. We investigated the intra-tumor heterogeneity of HPV E6 and E7 in esophageal cancer and the evaluation of the growth and migrations at the clonal level, using 10 single cell clones. In particular clones, C7 & C10 displayed a highly variable expression in both HPV E6 and E7 and weak in four clones (C1, C3, C4, and C9) consequently, the cell invasion, proliferation, and migration increase with increasing the level of HPV expression and inverse. In conclusion, the resulting based on single cell cloning showed the relationship between HPV and cell growth and migration in esophageal cancer. Future study in HPV DNA integration needed to explore the mains specific integration site of HPV DNA in esophageal cancer and molecular monitoring of the HPV for future prevention researches and also effective therapeutic strategies.

Aiming at the problems existing in the current prediction methods of aeroengine parameters, such as the difficulty in parameter selection, the slow training speed and the tendency to fall into local optimal solution of traditional BP neural network algorithm, this paper proposes the prediction method of aeroengine performance parameters based on mean influence value (MIV) algorithm and extreme learning machine (ELM). Firstly, we preprocess the sample data. Secondly, screening out the main parameters that affect the predicted parameters by MIV algorithm, attribute reduction is realized, the result of attribute reduction is taken as the input to train an ELM. Finally, using the test samples to do the test. The testing results show that the algorithm is faster and more accurate in parameter prediction.

Fast ORB-SLAM without keypoint Descriptors

Indirect methods for visual SLAM are gaining popularity due to their robustness to environmental variations. ORB-SLAM2 [1] is a benchmark method in this domain, however, it consumes significant time for computing descriptors that never get reused unless a frame is selected as a keyframe. To overcome these problems, we present FastORB-SLAM which is light-weight and efficient as it tracks keypoints between adjacent frames without computing descriptors. To achieve this, a two stage descriptor-independent keypoint matching method is proposed based on sparse optical flow. In the first stage, we predict initial keypoint correspondences via a simple but effective motion model and then robustly establish the correspondences via pyramid-based sparse optical flow tracking. In the second stage, we leverage the constraints of the motion smoothness and epipolar geometry to refine the correspondences. In particular, our method computes descriptors only for keyframes. We test FastORB-SLAM on TUM and ICL-NUIM RGB-D datasets and compare its accuracy and efficiency to nine existing RGB-D SLAM methods. Qualitative and quantitative results show that our method achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and is about twice as fast as the ORB-SLAM2. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.
