To investigate the dust generation mechanism in different coal samples under varying cutting conditions, we derived the control equation for the dimensional radius of the plastic zone during coal body crushing using the cavity expansion model. This involved leveraging the elastic-plasticity theory and integrating formula derivation with theoretical analysis. Through sensitivity analysis, we assessed the impact and relationship of each parameter in the equation on the dimensional radius. As a result, we developed a cavity crushing model that elucidates the dust generation mechanism during the truncation and crushing of coal bodies. Subsequently, we validated the accuracy and applicability of the model through discrete element numerical simulation. The results show that the control equation for dimension radius of the coal rock damage zone is: [[EQUATION]]. The three parameters that exert the most significant influence on the dimensional radius are the uniaxial compressive strength, confining pressure, and digging angle of the pick. A higher confining pressure and uniaxial compressive strength, along with a smaller digging angle of picks, lead to a reduced plastic zone area, resulting in decreased dust generation. The findings from the numerical simulation show a robust correlation with the dimensional radius variation pattern, thereby confirming the universality and precision of the cavity crushing model. © 2023, The Authors. Shadow operator: Effective dynamic load change operation training in air separation processes based on industrial nonlinear MPC and Bloom’s taxonomy

A novel human–machine interactive training method for dynamic load change operation in air separation processes (ASPs) is proposed. A shadow operator (SO) is developed in this method to train ASP operators through industrial model predictive control (IMPC) and Bloom’s taxonomy. First, a nonlinear two-layer IMPC machine algorithm is developed for dynamic load change operation. The IMPC uses a linear parameter varying prediction model and an iterative multi-step linearization algorithm to compute accurate control decisions. Second, a hierarchical human–machine cooperation model is established to improve the effectiveness of operation training. The model is inspired by an educational psychology framework (Bloom’s taxonomy) and assists ASP operators in enhancing their dynamic operational skills. Finally, five dynamic training modes of the SO are designed based on the IMPC algorithm and the human–machine cooperation model. The practical application results demonstrate that the SO improves the effectiveness of skill acquisition for novice operators and the safety of dynamic operations. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Nontargeted Metabolomic Evidence for Antagonism between Tetracycline and its Resistance Bacteria Underlying Their Obesogenic Effects on Caenorhabditis Elegans

Environmental antibiotics raise serious health concerns due to their contribution to the obesity prevalence. Moreover, antibiotics promote antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB) which represent another emerging pollutant. However, the interaction between antibiotic and ARB in the obesogenic effects remained unexplored. In the present study, the obesogenic effects of tetracycline antibiotic (TCH) and ARB containing tetA were studied on C. elegans, and E. coli OP50 (OP50) was referred as a normal bacterial food. Results showed that TCH stimulated nematode triglyceride contents, while ARB alone had no significant influences. The combination of TCH and ARB showed less obesogenic effects than TCH alone, showing antagonism. Biochemical assays showed that the combination of TCH and ARB showed similar effects to ARB alone, and had less increases in lipid metabolism enzymes or metabolites than those of TCH or ARB alone, supporting the antagonism. In the nontargeted metabolomic analysis, TCH with ARB showed less significantly changed metabolites (SCMs) in the nematodes than TCH or ARB alone, partially explaining the antagonism. The metabolomic results also pointed out the significant involvement of amino acids, the carboxylic acids and derivatives, and also the benzene and substituted derivatives in the obesogenic effects of TCH and ARB. © 2022, The Authors. Wireless rechargeable sensor networks (WRSNs) have emerged as an alternative to solving the challenges of size and operation time posed by traditional battery-powered systems. In this paper, we study a WRSN built from the industrial wireless identification and sensing platform (WISP) and commercial off-the-shelf RFID readers. The paper-thin WISP tags serve as sensors and can harvest energy from RF signals transmitted by the readers. This kind of WRSNs is highly desirable for indoor sensing and activity recognition, and is gaining attention in the research community. One fundamental question in WRSN design is how to deploy readers in a network to ensure that the WISP tags can harvest sufficient energy for continuous operation. We refer to this issue as the energy provisioning problem. Based on a practical wireless recharge model supported by experimental data, we investigate two forms of the problem: point provisioning and path provisioning. Point provisioning uses the least number of readers to ensure that a static tag placed in any position of the network will receive a sufficient recharge rate for sustained operation. Path provisioning exploits the potential mobility of tags (e.g., those carried by human users) to further reduce the number of readers necessary: mobile tags can harvest excess energy in power-rich regions and store it for later use in power-deficient regions. Our analysis shows that our deployment methods, by exploiting the physical characteristics of wireless recharging, can greatly reduce the number of readers compared with those assuming traditional coverage models.

The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a NP complete problem and is also a hot topic in the operational research. But traditional methods might suffer from slow convergence and the curse of large sizes, heuristics-based swarm intelligence can be an efficient alternative. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is known to effectively solve engineering optimization problems. In this paper, the PSO in solving VRP is comprehensive surveyed from two basic aspects: the improved PSO algorithms and the particle encoding method. For each application, technical details that are required are all discussed. Finally, a summary is given together with suggestions for future research.

The established and ongoing prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and sea-sonal human coronaviruses(HCoV)like HCoV-OC43,HCoV-NL63,and HCoV-229E,pose a continuous threat to public ***,it is urgently needed to explore antiviral drugs with broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus *** pre-vious studies have revealed that lycorine is a potent broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus drug,a natural alkaloid extracted from Amaryllidaceae with various pharmacological and microbiological ***,it is unsafe to directly use ly-corine as a clinical antiviral drug due to the cytotoxicity and induction of cell *** this study,a series of lycorine derivatives were designed and *** of them,named Ly-8,was found to effectively inhibit the replication of different coronavirus strains in vitro,including ***,Ly-8 was also shown to effectively inhibit HCoV-OC43 replication in the central nervous system,and provide effective protection against HCoV-OC43 infection in mice with low drug ***,Ly-8-resistant mutants were not observed during the 30 times sequential passages in cell ***,these findings suggest that Ly-8 may be a potential candidate drug for the future develop-ment of broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus drugs.

The paper considers the problem of tracking control of a class of nonlinear systems with unknown periodic time-varying parameters via dynamic output feedback. Both matched disturbances and unmatched disturbances are considered. A new method for asymptotic rejection of multiple general periodic disturbances is presented. The use of deep learning for fault diagnosis is already a commonly used method. However, complex operating conditions under different working conditions significantly impact bearing vibration signals. Integrating the discriminative information of fault type and size into the deep learning model to achieve rich multi-task fault feature diagnosis still deserves attention. This study proposes a deep multi-task-based multi-scale feature fusion network MEAT(multi-task-based deep multi-scale feature fusion network) model to address these issues. Solve the limitations and poor adaptability of traditional convolutional neural network models under complex work. This model considers two sub-tasks, fault scale discrimination, and fault type discrimination, in the fault diagnosis multi-classification task through multi-task mapping decomposition. First, multi-dimensional features are extracted by convolution at different scales to obtain multi-dimensional fault information at different levels. Then these features are weighted and fused using a multi-layer attention mechanism to get accurate diagnosis results of bearing faults. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In ultra-precision cutting, the inherent working frequency and positioning accuracy of actuators are decisive. It is challenging to generate multi-scale cutting motions with high accuracy on a hierarchical scale simultaneously. In this study, a novel micro and nano cutting device with multiple axes with micro-scale positioning accuracy in millimetres and nanoscale positioning accuracy in micron meters is developed for overcoming the challenge. The structure of the cutting device is designed with a small form factor in dimension in comparison to other auxiliary cutting devices for ultra-precision machine tools. The magnetic field simulation is also used to optimize the output force of the voice coil motor with the simulation results validated by experiments using a force sensor. The operation mechanism of the flexure-hinge is investigated by finite element analysis. The device can perform ±0.5 mm stroke at 10 Hz and ±8 µm at 3300 Hz for generation of microstructures with experimental validation. The significance and originality of this study lie in the successful development of a novel hybrid actuation cutting system that can generate multi-scale cutting motions with high accuracy and flexibility on a hierarchical scale for the generation of microstructured surfaces in ultraprecision machining. © 2022, The Authors.
