To compare the merits of Ni and Cu,the mechanical and tribological properties of CrBN coatings modified by Ni or Cu incorporation were *** results demonstrated that the CrBN–Cu coatings presented a lower friction coefficient than CrBN and CrBN–Ni coatings owing to the improved lubrication effect of the CuO layer originating from the tribochemical ***,the hardness decline due to Cu incorporation was much greater than that of Ni ***,the CrBN–Cu coatings exhibited a higher wear rate than the CrBN *** contrast,the plastic deformation enhancement induced by Ni incorporation exceeded the hardness ***,the wear of CrBN–Ni coatings partially turned to plastic deformation to present a lower wear rate than that of the CrBN coating.

Fabrication of flame retardants from renewable biomass has aroused extensive interest over the past *** work reported a synthesis of isosorbide-derived polyphosphonate(PICPP)as an anti-flammable agent for poly(lactic acid)(PLA).The presence of PICPP notably declined the storage modulus of PLA/PICPP owing to the declined molecular weight of PLA catalyzed by the presence of *** and PLA/PICPP thermally degraded in one stage under either air or nitrogen *** increasing the amount of PICPP,the onset thermal decomposition temperature of PLA/PICPP was decreased gradually,owing to the earlier decomposition of *** only 10 wt%of PICPP,PLA/PICPP-10 achieved a high limiting oxygen index of 30.0%and UL-94 V-0 classification,manifesting that PICPP was an efficient anti-flammable agent for *** inclusion of 15 wt%PICPP also caused 33%and 16%decline in PHRR and THR of PLA,***-IR results clarified that PLA/PICPP produced the less typical pyrolysis products especially flammable carbonyls than PLA,which may account for the suppressed PHRR and THR values of PLA/PICPP.

Coal dust is a fugitive and combustible pollutant leading to risks of both explosion and air pollution. Dust explosions are one of the most serious potential disasters in coal mining operations. A substantial literature on coal mine safety covers issues related to the origin, distribution, and transport of coal dust. This paper conducted a review of recent theoretical and experimental literature that are related to the current status and progress in coal dust management strategies. Empirical models and simulations have been used to investigate how dust concentration and particle sizes impact dust propagation in areas prone to dust production, such as mechanised mining faces. The key characteristics of coal dust that are vital for their generation, dispersion, and associated risks are summarised. Better understanding of these characteristics can lead to more effective control in coal dust and hence improved health outcomes for workers and reduced risks at an industry-wide level. Some gaps in the research literature were identified, such as those regarding dust-settling and dedusting. Current research efforts are primarily concentrated on systems, such as water injection, spray dust suppression, ventilation, and dust collector. The advantages and limits of different methods for dust management are compared. Biological dedusting, a novel technology that is still in its early stage, was also reviewed. The paper also discussed potential areas of future research that were needed. © 2024 The Institution of Chemical Engineers

In this study, a learning model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for process dynamic working condition change (DWCC) tasks is proposed. The algorithm continuously compensates for model–plant mismatch (MPM) and improves dynamic performance by predicting multi-step-ahead disturbance from similar DWCC tasks. First, a state-space model augmented by disturbance variables ensures offset-free control for MPM. Second, a dynamic autoencoder is constructed to extract private features from process sequences based on long short-term memory and fully connected networks. DWCC scenarios similar to the current scenario are located from the historical database by calculating the distance between extracted features. Finally, the multi-step-ahead disturbance and its uncertainty representation are predicted through multi-output Gaussian process regression based on the located scenarios. The obtained multi-step-ahead disturbance is incorporated into the state-space MPC framework. A nonlinear case is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Deep Learning has been widely used to model soft sensors in modern industrial processes with nonlinear variables and uncertainty. Due to the outstanding ability for high-level feature extraction, stacked autoencoder (SAE) has been widely used to improve the model accuracy of soft sensors. However, with the increase of network layers, SAE may encounter serious information loss issues, which affect the modeling performance of soft sensors. Besides, there are typically very few labeled samples in the data set, which brings challenges to traditional neural networks to solve. In this paper, a multi-scale feature fused stacked autoencoder (MFF-SAE) is suggested for feature representation related to hierarchical output, where stacked autoencoder, mutual information (MI) and multi-scale feature fusion (MFF) strategies are integrated. Based on correlation analysis between output and input variables, critical hidden variables are extracted from the original variables in each autoencoder's input layer, which are correspondingly given varying weights. Besides, an integration strategy based on multi-scale feature fusion is adopted to mitigate the impact of information loss with the deepening of the network layers. Then, the MFF-SAE method is designed and stacked to form deep networks. Two practical industrial processes are utilized to evaluate the performance of MFF-SAE. Results from simulations indicate that in comparison to other cutting-edge techniques, the proposed method may considerably enhance the accuracy of soft sensor modeling, where the suggested method reduces the root mean square error (RMSE) by 71.8%, 17.1% and 64.7%, 15.1%, respectively. © 2025 Chemical Industry and engineering Society of China, and Chemical Industry Press Co., Ltd.

Hydrochars as carbonaceous amendments rich in porous structures and nutrients can be used as promising slow-release fertilizers and soil health amendments. Yet, the performance of hydrochars derived from different feedstocks in improving crop plant growth and soil phosphorus (P) availability is not well understood. Here, a batch of sewage sludge (SS) and chicken manure (CM) derived hydrochars (SSCs and CMCs) were produced at 125 and 225 °C (SS125/225 and CM125/225) to investigate their characteristics and performances in improving the seedling growth of two representative crops, soybean (Glycine max) and corn (Zea mays), as well as the P availability in an acidic agricultural soil in comparison with triple super phosphate (TSP), a conventional P fertilizer. Compared with CMCs, SSCs with more porous and rougher surfaces contained relatively lower contents of carbon (C;32.3–33.3%), hydrogen (H;3.9–4.69%), and potassium (K;29.2–51 mg g−1), but higher contents of P (37.4–85.4%) and nitrogen (N;2.26–4.9%), as well as more O-containing and N-containing functional groups. The impacts of hydrochars on soybean and corn growth showed distinct variations. The application of SSCs showed little effect on soybean growth (i.e., biomass, chlorophyl contents, and number of leaves), while CMCs significantly increased its total dry biomass by 23.2–66.2%. For corn, both SSCs and CMCs increased the total dry biomass by 32.8–92.4% and 21.8–69.7%, respectively, compared to those in the un-amended soils. In addition, compared with the higher temperature hydrochars (SS225 and CM225), the lower temperature ones (SS125 and CM125) increased the total dry biomass by 24.6% and 34.9% for soybean and 44.8% and 39.3% for corn, respectively. The significant improvement in crop growth by hydrochars was mainly due to the direct nutrient supply (particularly P) by the hydrochars, which was supported by the increased soil and shoot P concentrations. Photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2) into small-molecule chemical feedstocks can meet the growing demand for energy and alleviate the global warming. Herein, a p-n ZnO@CDs@Co_(3)O_(4) heterojunction with sandwich structure was constructed by calcination method of self-assembled ZIF-8@CDs@ZIF-67. The ZnO@CDs@Co_(3)O_(4) with well-defined interfacial structure exhibited the significantly enhanced photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction activity, and the optimal catalyst indicated the(CO + CH_(4)) evolution rate of 214.53μmol g^(-1)h^(-1) under simulated solar light, which was superior to ZnO, Co_(3)O_(4) and binary ZnO@Co_(3)O_(4).The internal cavity, exposed active sites, multiple interfaces and constructed p-n heterojunction can facilitate the light harvesting and photoexcited electron transfer. Besides, after introduction of CDs placed in the middle layer between ZnO and Co_(3)O_(4), CDs with excellent photoelectric property further promoted charge separation and migration. This work represents an appealing strategy to construct well-defined photocatalysts for boosting CO_(2) photoreduction.

Dynamic Modeling and control for an Offshore Semisubmersible Floating Wind Turbine

Floating wind turbines (FWTs) hold significant potential for the exploitation of offshore renewable energy resources. Nevertheless, prior to the construction of FWTs, it is imperative to tackle several critical challenges, especially the issue of performance degradation under combined wind and wave loads. This study initiates with the development of a simplified nonlinear dynamical model for a semi-submersible FWT. In particular, both the rotor dynamics and the finite rotations of the platform are considered in presented modeling approach, thereby effectively capturing the complex interplay between the platform, tower, nacelle, and rotor under combined wind and wave loads. Subsequently, based on the developed FWT model, a novel adaptive nonlinear pitch controller is formulated with the goal of striking a trade-off between regulating power generation and reducing platform motion. Notably, the proposed control strategy adopts a continuous control approach, strategically beneficial in circumventing the chattering phenomenon commonly associated with sliding mode control. Furthermore, the controller integrates an online approximator and a robust integral of the sign of the tracking error, facilitating real-time learning of system unknown dynamics while compensating for bounded disturbances. Finally, both the accuracy of the established nonlinear FWT model in predicting key dynamics and the superiority of the presented pitch controller are validated through comprehensive comparative studies.
