Enhanced adsorption of dye wastewater by low-temperature combined NaOH/urea pretreated hydrochar: Fabrication, performance, and mechanism

The highly stable biomass structure formed by cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin results in incomplete conversion and carbonization under hydrothermal conditions. In this study, pretreated corn straw hydrochar (PCS-HC) was prepared using a low-temperature alkali/urea combination pretreatment method. The Mass loss rate of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin from pretreated biomass, as well as the effects of the pretreatment method on the physicochemical properties of PCS-HC and the adsorption performance of PCS-HC for alkaline dyes (rhodamine B and methylene blue), were investigated. The results showed that the low-temperature NaOH/urea pretreatment effectively disrupted the stable structure formed by cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. NaOH played a dominant role in solubilizing cellulose and the combination of low temperature and urea enhanced the ability of NaOH to remove cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Compared to the untreated hydrochar, PCS-HC exhibited a rougher surface, a more abundant pore structure, and a larger specific surface area. The unpretreated hydrochar exhibited an adsorption capacity of 64.8% for rhodamine B and 66.32% for methylene blue. However, the removal of rhodamine B and methylene blue by PCS-BC increased to 89.12% and 90.71%, respectively, under the optimal pretreatment conditions. The PCS-HC exhibited a favorable adsorption capacity within the pH range of 6–9. However, the presence of co-existing anions such as Cl−, SO42−, CO32−, and NO3− hindered the adsorption capacity of PCS-HC. Among these anions, CO32− exhibited the highest level of inhibition. Chemisorption, including complexation, electrostatic attraction, and hydrogen bonding, were the primary mechanism for dye adsorption by PCS-HC. This study provides an efficient method for utilizing agricultural waste and treating dye wastewater. It is well established that paper-based separators display short-circuit risk in lithium-ion batteries due to their intrinsic micron-sized *** this research,we have adjusted pore structure of paper by fiber swelling in liquid ***,the paper-based separator is prepared by propionylated sisal fibers through a wet papermaking *** electron microscope(SEM)and multi-range X-ray nano-computed tomography(CT)images display strong swelling of modified fibers after electrolyte absorption,which can effectively decrease the pore size of *** to the high electrolyte uptake(817 wt%),paper-based separator exhibits ionic conductivity of 2.93 mS cm^(-1).^(7)Li solid-state NMR spectroscopy and Gaussian simulation reveal that the formation of local high Li^(+)ion concentration in the separator and its low absorption energy with Li^(+) ion(62.2 kcal mol^(-1))is conducive to the ionic *** particular,the assembled Li/separator/LiFePO_(4) cell displays wide electrochemical stability window(5.2 V)and excellent cycle performance(capacity retention of 96.6%after 100 cycles at 0.5C)due to the reduced side reactions as well as enhanced electrolyte absorption and retention capacity by *** proposed strategy will provide a novel perspective to design high-performance biobased separators to boost the development of clean and sustainable energy economy.

Training machine learning models in virtual environments often fails to generalize effectively to real-world applications. The discrepancy between simulated and real environments results in suboptimal performance of the learned models. Various approaches have been proposed to address this “simulation-to-reality gap,” including refining training images within simulations or randomizing virtual environments to narrow the disparity. A CycleGAN model is used to convert simulated images into real ones for correction, but this method remains task-agnostic and does not preserve task-specific information, which can negatively affect task performance. Critical features, particularly those directly related to the task, may be lost during translation, which can compromise task success. To address this issue, conditional information is introduced during the image transformation process to ensure that task-relevant features, such as location data, are retained. This method makes the transformation task-aware rather than task-agnostic. Additionally, skip connections are implemented to mitigate blurring in the generated images. The proposed method has been trained on a custom dataset from a laboratory environment and validated on a robotic arm. This approach significantly improves the accuracy of image conversion tasks and enhances the efficiency of sim-to-real image translation.

Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (OPMD) contain a variety of diseases with complex pathological features, most of which are associated with systemic diseases and have a high risk of malignant transformation, making diagnosis challenging. In this regard, we adopted rapidly developing artificial intelligence methods in recent years, using deep learning for feature extraction and multi-task research on images of oral mucosal diseases. Concerning the severity of oral mucosal diseases, we employed a Swin Transformer-based classification model for the classification of benign diseases, OPMD, and oral cancer, achieving an accuracy of 94.2% and a precision of 95.0%. Further research explored the instance segmentation algorithm based on Mask2Former, comparing it with classic segmentation algorithm to achieve automated segmentation of oral mucosal inflammatory lesions. The study shows that deep learning methods can effectively discriminate the severity of oral mucosal disease images and segment lesion areas, providing solid research foundation for intelligent assisted diagnosis.

The rapid development of information and communications technology has enabled the use of digital-controlled and software-driven distributed energy resources (DERs) to improve the flexibility and efficiency of power supply, and support grid operations. However, this evolution also exposes geographically-dispersed DERs to cyber threats, including hardware and software vulnerabilities, communication issues, and personnel errors, etc. Therefore, enhancing the cyber-resiliency of DER-based smart grid - the ability to survive successful cyber intrusions - is becoming increasingly vital and has garnered significant attention from both industry and academia. In this survey, we aim to provide a comprehensive review regarding the cyber-resiliency enhancement (CRE) developments of the DER-based smart grid, present a holistic CRE framework, and thoroughly discuss the research directions of the next-generation CRE methods. Firstly, an integrated threat modeling method is tailored for the hierarchical DER-based smart grid with special emphasises on vulnerability identification and impact analysis. Then, the defense-in-depth strategies encompassing prevention, detection, mitigation, and recovery are comprehensively surveyed, systematically classified, and rigorously summarized. A holistic CRE framework is subsequently proposed to incorporate the five key resiliency enablers. Finally, challenges and future directions are discussed in details. The overall aim of this survey is to illustrates the recent development of CRE methods and motivate further efforts to improve the cyber-resiliency of DER-based smart grid. The ubiquitous planes and structural consistency are the most apparent features of indoor multi-story buildings compared with outdoor environments. In this paper, we propose a tightly coupled LiDAR-Inertial 3D SLAM framework with plane features for the multi-story building. The framework we proposed is mainly composed of three parts: tightly coupled LiDAR-Inertial odometry, extraction of structural representative planes, and factor graph optimization. By building a local map and inertial measurement unit (IMU) pre-integration, we get LiDAR scan-to-local-map matching and IMU measurements, respectively. Minimize the joint cost function to obtain the LiDAR-Inertial odometry information. Once a new keyframe is added to the graph, all the planes of this keyframe that can represent structural features are extracted to find the constraint between different poses and stories. A keyframe-based factor graph is conducted with the constraint of planes, and LiDAR-Inertial odometry for keyframe poses refinement. The experimental results show that our algorithm has outstandsing performance in accuracy compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms.

This study focuses on the influence of the polarization of incident light in the laser slicing of 4H-SiC wafers. The structure of longitudinal damage within the material after laser modification was measured and analyzed. The impact of laser pulse energy on this structure was studied. Differences in longitudinal damage under different polarization states were compared. In addition, the effects of laser polarization on the modification of line width and lateral crack propagation were investigated. A vector diffraction model was established to analyze the propagation characteristics of beams with different polarization states during focusing. The results indicate that a linearly polarized beam perpendicular to the scanning direction offers superior modification efficacy compared to other directions of linear polarization and circular polarization. Azimuthally and radially polarized beams substantially decrease the length of longitudinal damage and reduce the difficulty of delamination. Compared to the linearly polarized beam perpendicular to the scanning direction, the azimuthally polarized beam reduces the longitudinal damage length by 49.3% and the delamination stress by 47.0%. In comparison, the radially polarized beam reduces the longitudinal damage length by 39.4% and the delamination stress by 53.8%. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Most MPC(Model Predictive control) algorithms used in industries and studied in the control academia use a two-term QP(quadratic programing),where the first term is the weighted norm of the output errors,and the second term is that of the input *** this work,a DMC(Dynamic Model control) algorithm that uses three-term QP is studied where the third term is the weighted norm of the output *** will be shown theoretically that for a given plant with a given model,the three-term DMC can achieve a higher performance than that of the two-term DMC ***,a relationship between the three-term DMC and the two term DMC is derived;and based on that,a practical and user-friendly control tuning procedure is developed for the three-term *** effectiveness of the tuning method is verified by simulation.
